Yeah, continuing to draft first rd picks on defensive, and forgetting about the offense, have gotten us so far....lol

Merely pointing out that if a dynamic pass rusher falls to us, I have no problem drafting him, then OL in any rounds thereafter. I am not saying OL is not an issue. Just should not be an automatic 1st round pick.PurpleKoolaid wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 8:06 pmYeah, continuing to draft first rd picks on defensive, and forgetting about the offense, have gotten us so far....lol

The Oline wasn't nearly as deep in last years draft as it is this year.S197 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2019 3:44 pmWhat worries me is we had this setup last year. Literally pick of the litter at guard (outside of Nelson and Ragnar) but Rick gets cute and loses out on all of them. Maybe he learns his lesson and makes a pick rather than risking getting burned again but I'll be nervous until Roger takes the podium.PacificNorseWest wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2019 7:50 pm
Jawaan Taylor is the premiere tackle. Andre Dillard is probably 1b, but needs a bit more coaching. Little projects as a tackle, but is raw.
Jonah Williams, Dalton Risner and Kaleb McGary played tackle in college, but project more as a guard in the NFL.
As an aside, you'll notice this is 6 guys I just mentioned and all of them with first round potential and is barely even close to being the whole list of solid prospects. The good news is that the Vikings will have their chance at a very good prospect on the Oline at #18, regardless if some teams draft Oline ahead of them. There's also the potential to grab some of these guys by trading back into the 1st or some falling to the 2nd round, though I'm not sure how many will. And then there's still a lot of talent projected to go in the 2nd round, so this is why you can see that some of us aren't too concerned that they didn't break the bank for a FA. It makes much more sense to draft a guy and probably two. Cheaper, younger and better.
And the great thing is, I left off some guys that are 1st round potential, but not tackles. Cody Ford, Bradbury, Lindstrom, McCoy..This is seriously a DEEP offensive line class. I'm excited how this is setting up.
And I've seen just about all of these guys get mocked to the Vikings in one draft or another.![]()
Now if we see a run on OL and you have a Gary, Sweat, etc fall then it may be good strategy to shift gears. That's certainly a possibility but if a guy like Ford is on the board, he should be the pick no matter how tempting it would be to grab one of these sliding picks. Absent a huge step up in talent on their big board, this is a need pick for the Vikings.

Re: Trade Window And Official Free Agency Begins!
My friend who is a Niners fan sent me this yesterday:
https://www.ninersnation.com/2019/3/29/ ... de-for-him
I've been saying all along they should move Xavier, so even though this is the Niners taking the initiative and not the Vikings, I'm hoping a draft day deal comes through that can move him. He's still above average and a strong piece; however, the Vikings are so deep at CB and they have younger and cheaper guys at that position and they won't suffer a major dropoff. They need the capspace -- even though the big hitters (no pun intended) in FA are already gone -- and if it achieves the accumulation of another pick in a deep Oline draft, they can probably afford to fill out another position like Dline, LB or TE/WR with a pick that may be going to the Oline, as it stands. I'm for moving Rhodes.
I also agree with the article though, in that Zimmer challenging Rhodes sounds like a way to get Rhodes fired up, because as it alluded to with Zimmer hinting that Rhodes took a good sized step back last year from the all-pro caliber of play we were accustomed to seeing the 2-3 seasons prior, he needs to be better for what his salary commands. And this is my opinion, but his bogus injuries continue to be a theme...He gets beat, his ego burnt, he pulls up lame. I'm sick of seeing it, because early on in his career, Rhodes was a tough guy who you couldn't drag off the field.
Part of me thinks Zimmer just wants to ride or die with this squad -- and I can appreciate loyalty -- but if doesn't work out, I wouldn't be surprised to see a fairly good sized overhaul going into the 2020 season with guys like Rhodes, Harrison, Griffen, Rudolph, and possibly one of either Thielen or Diggs moved to get younger.

But you have to remember, those reviews go against the coach. They didn't add any challenges to the mix. I don't suspect it's going to be the free for all that some are predicting. I could be wrong though. Rhodes is bound to get a few challenge flags for sure. I still say building a defensive centric team is fighting an uphill battle in the modern day NFL. Yes, the Pats did it last year in the post season but there's always exceptions to the rule.![]()

Thanks for that tidbit. I didn't realize that. I highly doubt any coach other than Peyton will be throwing challenge flags for any iffy P.I.s so that makes me feel a little better. I'm 54 so I remember the old Tatum and Atkinson secondary murder scenes... can you imagine those guys today? It's crazy to think of the things I remember happening in games in my early fan career.Raptorman wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2019 1:58 amBut you have to remember, those reviews go against the coach. Re: Trade Window And Official Free Agency Begins!
IMO Murray isn't worth a 1st round pick. The guy is 5 10 maybe. That don't cut it in my book. If he did pick him I would be PO. Our team is what it is. We should play some good football. Should this group win it all? No way. Not enough talent across the board. It would be a great achievement to win the division. We need to stay healthy. If we get hit with injuries like last year the ship will be sunk. As it would for any team.S197 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 3:25 pm I'm would bet a huge sum of money Rick doesn't take a QB in the first. Kyler Murray could be there and he would pass.
It's simply not his drafting MO to take a QB high unless we absolutely need one. I mean look at Favre, the guy was in the twilight of his career, clearly only a year or two left in the tank and we took no one as a backup. Ponder and Bridgewater were picked because there were no other options.
I'd honestly be shocked if we grabbed a QB in the first four rounds. You can go back 10 years and see Rick simply doesn't draft QBs to compete. He has his guy, a vet as back up, and some late round/UDFA to fill the roster.

Re: Trade Window And Official Free Agency Begins!
I wouldn't be opposed to drafting a QB in the first round 3 out of every 5 years. If Murray is by some chance there at 18 the Vikings should take him. As positively illustrated by Drew Brees and Russell Wilson, and negatively illustrated by Kirk Cousins, pocket movement opens throwing lanes.
"You like that!"
