That's a good summary. I agree, there seem to really only be two true Tackles in this draft, but tons of interior help.PacificNorseWest wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2019 7:50 pmfiestavike wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2019 4:46 pm
Who do you see as the true Tackles in this draft? How many are there?
Jawaan Taylor is the premiere tackle. Andre Dillard is probably 1b, but needs a bit more coaching. Little projects as a tackle, but is raw.
Jonah Williams, Dalton Risner and Kaleb McGary played tackle in college, but project more as a guard in the NFL.
As an aside, you'll notice this is 6 guys I just mentioned and all of them with first round potential and is barely even close to being the whole list of solid prospects. The good news is that the Vikings will have their chance at a very good prospect on the Oline at #18, regardless if some teams draft Oline ahead of them. There's also the potential to grab some of these guys by trading back into the 1st or some falling to the 2nd round, though I'm not sure how many will. And then there's still a lot of talent projected to go in the 2nd round, so this is why you can see that some of us aren't too concerned that they didn't break the bank for a FA. It makes much more sense to draft a guy and probably two. Cheaper, younger and better.
And the great thing is, I left off some guys that are 1st round potential, but not tackles. Cody Ford, Bradbury, Lindstrom, McCoy..This is seriously a DEEP offensive line class. I'm excited how this is setting up.

And I've seen just about all of these guys get mocked to the Vikings in one draft or another.

you hit the nail on the head there buddy!!! An buddy of mine at work and I were just just laughing yest about how we couldn't wait to get home and check all the mock drafts to see who our teams were projected to take THAT hour. Haha.
I swear Bucky Brookes, who INHO is just horrible to have to listen too, seems to change his mock board every 2 hrs. Very entertaining. Have seen us taking TE, DE, OG and OT just in past few days. fun.
To me just wanna be sure the pick is in on time.

What worries me is we had this setup last year. Literally pick of the litter at guard (outside of Nelson and Ragnar) but Rick gets cute and loses out on all of them. Maybe he learns his lesson and makes a pick rather than risking getting burned again but I'll be nervous until Roger takes the podium.PacificNorseWest wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2019 7:50 pmfiestavike wrote: ↑Fri Mar 22, 2019 4:46 pm

Now if we see a run on OL and you have a Gary, Sweat, etc fall then it may be good strategy to shift gears. That's certainly a possibility but if a guy like Ford is on the board, he should be the pick no matter how tempting it would be to grab one of these sliding picks. Absent a huge step up in talent on their big board, this is a need pick for the Vikings.
Re: Trade Window And Official Free Agency Begins!
Hughes looked like a player. At least he scored a TD from a pick. Of course he did get pick on but he was a rookie and that will happen with all rookies. Last year people wanted Hernandez. He was nothing great last year and was abused early on, It's not like he solidified the OL. Even with a big time FA signing to help. Grading an OL is a mystery to me. Indy was supposedly much improved but that line looked worse than ours in the playoff game I saw. I don't know how to tell a great line from a crap line. Is it sacks allowed? Is it total rushing yards? Pressures on the QB? I don't even know what that is. But IMO if Lock and Ford are there at 18 Lock is my pick. QBs are hard to find. And without one you don't have a chance regardless of the OL mystery performance.S197 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2019 3:44 pmWhat worries me is we had this setup last year. I'm would bet a huge sum of money Rick doesn't take a QB in the first. Kyler Murray could be there and he would pass.
It's simply not his drafting MO to take a QB high unless we absolutely need one. I mean look at Favre, the guy was in the twilight of his career, clearly only a year or two left in the tank and we took no one as a backup. Ponder and Bridgewater were picked because there were no other options.
I'd honestly be shocked if we grabbed a QB in the first four rounds. You can go back 10 years and see Rick simply doesn't draft QBs to compete. He has his guy, a vet as back up, and some late round/UDFA to fill the roster.

I'm still doubling down that the Vikings take Montez Sweat if Lions and Packer pass on him. It's premonition at this point, I can just feel it. If the Vikings pass on the consensus top 5 OL (Williams, Ford... ect) I won't lose any sleep over it. Sweat's skill set and this staff are too perfect for each other. It's like getting Randy Moss (defensively) all over again.

I don't remember anyone ever picking the Vikings first pick in the draft with accuracy in the last 20 years. Has anyone else seen it?
Vikings fan since Nov. 6, 1966. Annoying Packer fans since Nov. 7, 1966

Yeah I mean I saw Kalil, Treadwell, Waynes and I saw some having us pick either Rhodes or Patterson at 25 that year. I gotten a few right in my time haha. This year I had Ford so we’ll see. I haven’t hit in a few years though. I had us taking Floyd at 25. I did an early mock that year and it was before he shot way up draft boards. Kinda similar to Risner this year. I had us taking him in the early 3rd round. They initially said he was going to be a day 3 pick then he was all of the sudden in first round conversations lol. Although I will say I haven’t heard much on him lately. I also did 2 mocks Waynes year and had him in one of the two and then had us taking Harry early in the 2nd. Missed on Kalil that year. Had us going with Blackmon. Woof lol

If someone is bored enough to make up multiple mock drafts, they better get a few right...Pondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 7:10 amYeah I mean I saw Kalil, Treadwell, Waynes and I saw some having us pick either Rhodes or Patterson at 25 that year. No when you actually research players, you're bound to get a few right. Not bored at all. Just enjoy it, know the board enjoys it and I actually research the players. I start typing it a few weeks before I even post it and work on it when I can. And I did two mock drafts one year since 2012 (Waynes year). But either way, thanks for your overly educated input. Clearly it flips your world upside down to ever admit I was right on something even if it was as simple as us drafting a punter in the 7th round.PurpleKoolaid wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 11:41 amIf someone is bored enough to make up multiple mock drafts, they better get a few right...Pondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 7:10 am

Man. I'm really big on this guy. I'm with you on this one-would not lose any sleep if he fell and we drafted him. Have a feeling he goes right around #10 though.StpViking wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 10:19 pm I'm still doubling down that the Vikings take Montez Sweat if Lions and Packer pass on him. Hunter and Sweat would be a lot of fun to watch for the next 5 years...

Yeah, continuing to draft first rd picks on defensive, and forgetting about the offense, have gotten us so far....lolcmoss84 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 4:59 pmMan. I'm really big on this guy. Pass interference is now reviewable, which changes the Rhodes/Wayne's dynamic a bit. Rhodes is bound to get a few challenge flags for sure. I still say building a defensive centric team is fighting an uphill battle in the modern day NFL. Yes, the Pats did it last year in the post season but there's always exceptions to the rule.

Hate to say it, but with the news that P.I. is now reviewable, I believe that Rhodes will be recipient of more than just a few calls.S197 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 10:16 pm Pass interference is now reviewable, which changes the Rhodes/Wayne's dynamic a bit. Re: Trade Window And Official Free Agency Begins!
Since Zimmer has been here, he’s had 3 defensive first rounders and 2 offensive. Technically 3 offensive since we didn’t have a first in 2017 and our first pick was cook. So your comment has zero relevance and is completely false. He’s been near even since he’s been herePurpleKoolaid wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 8:06 pmYeah, continuing to draft first rd picks on defensive, and forgetting about the offense, have gotten us so far....lol
