He's a backup, who can step in for a few games and play well. He is not a long term starter.

I believe that was more of a personality issue between Carter and Buddy Ryan as his stats were pretty respectable when he played with Philly. Carter had some issues (both on and off field) during his years there from what I've heard.MelanieMFunk wrote: Cris Carter.

Cris Carter had a drug problem...PurpleKoolaid wrote: Like the Eagles waived CC?
Hindsight is always 20/20, but believe me, there's nothing wrong with cutting a guy when he has serious character issues, especially drug abuse (and it wasn't just weed - it was hard drugs). Not a comparable situation in the slightest - Cassel seems like an absolutely awesome dude anyway.
This situation almost reminds me of when the Seahawks picked-up Tavaris Jackson a couple years back and Pete Carroll publicly stated that Jackson never had a fair shot in Minnesota and shouldn't have been non-tendered. Sometimes, most often with quarterbacks, there's a darn good reason why they're getting released, and it's usually a result of not showing up when the pressure is on. I think the Seahawks learned that lesson with Jackson. I'm not saying that Cassel can't turn it around and miraculously become a great QB, but it's highly unlikely.

I have to disagree here. Cassel had good years in NE and KC before he had his bad years. Jackson never had 'good years.' Even the season where he allegedly too us to the playoffs, he didn't Frerotte was responsible for a almost of the wins that secured our playoff spot. How many Pro-bowls did Jackson ever play in? In fact, I still say that Jackson/Ponder is a much closer comparison that Jackson/Cassel. Jackson/Ponder both are too quick to leave the pocket when pressured, which is their weakness. I think Jackson actually has a stronger arm than Ponder, but that is the only comparison I would make with Jackson/Cassel (arm strength). Both are good runners, but we already have a 'pretty decent' running back corps, so I don't know why we feel the need to have our QBs possess running skills over passing skills. Lastly, Jackson had 5 years to 'prove he didn't suck' with a mediocre-good team and never got the job done. Cassel had a couple of bad years (with a bad team) and suddenly he's Jackson v 2.0? Not likely.thatguy wrote:

I've told people a million times not to exaggerate!
