Vikings sign DT Harrison Phillips
A run stuffer named Horrible Harry. I would assume Pierce is on the way out.

The guy has 1.5 sacks in his career. Better hang on to Hunter.

Guy appears to be more a run stuffer than he is a pass rusher. But seems injury prone.

Right now I don't like it, but I don't even know who the guy is.
Hopefully he proves me wrong.

A one dementional player, thats injury prone. Not a good deal at all. But then it seems KAM and the front office were just a little late again. They must expect to fill all the holes with draft picks. That might not work out well for people not picked in the first round.

Not sure where the injury prone stuff comes from. Other than his 2nd season where he only played three games, he's been pretty healthy. Or healthy enough to play at least. Played all games his first season. Missed 4 games two years ago and 3 last year. He's had ACL injuries which may or may not hinder him, but there are really good doctors that get paid a lot of money to ensure it's not an issue.
In general I think the term "injury prone" gets thrown around too much by fans. These guys are playing a brutal, physical game. Injuries are going to happen. Some more than others. A guy tears an ACL and suddenly he's injury prone. I just disagree with that take is all.
The guy is a run-stopping specialist. Something I think we need. He's a smart guy and a graduate of Stanford. He's a great person as Buffalos Walter Payton Man of the Year for the work he did in the community. And 19 million for three years isn't crazy pay. Cheaper than what we gave Pierce and Tomlinson.

Pierce has been released so Harrison will be replacing him

Encouraging take. I'm feeling better about him.vikeinmontana wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 9:41 am Not sure where the injury prone stuff comes from. Re: Vikings sign DT Harrison Phillips
You got it. Basically an early down player to plug the middle. He is smart which I assume these guys will want at all levels. This is the outcome from there robust analytics process. I did my dummy process and noticed that we gave up 130 yards a game rushing. That indicates problems up the middle. Next on the process is DEs. From my process we lack size for this alignment. So I guess they will be signed. Then it's LBers which we have an empty cupboard right now. Looks like they sign and then cut. Expect inside LBers next and bye bye Kendricks. I forgot Tomlinson he was part of the 130 yard deal. He's gone. Need to find a cheap backup.vikeinmontana wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 9:41 am Not sure where the injury prone stuff comes from. One thing I will say regarding Phillips….
I was born and raised in NY and only a few hours from Buffalo. So I have a lot of buddies that are huge bills fans. I always knew OF Phillips but never knew enough about him. But the fans are practically obsessed with him and really bummed to see him go. Great locker room guy, hard worker, solid run stuffer, etc. A few buddies already texted me and said we got a good one with him. One buddy even said “this is Pat Williams going from Buffalo to the Vikings all over again”….for what it’s worth lol

They don't have the cap space to be very active in FA.JJBreaksRecords wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 7:43 am A one dementional player, thats injury prone. Not a good deal at all. That goes for a good chunk of NFC teams right now. Especially playoff teams so I dont feel like we're losing much ground. For the teams that are over the cap, we are actually the closest to being under.Cliff wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 6:00 amThey don't have the cap space to be very active in FA.JJBreaksRecords wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 7:43 am A one dementional player, thats injury prone. Vikings are $2 mill over
Saints $3 mill
Packers $7 mill
Giants $7 mill
Chiefs $10.5 mill
49ers $14.6 mill
Bucs $21.5
Rams $24.7
Out of all those teams, there is only 1 AFC team. There is also the 4 top teams in the conference (Rams, Bucs, Packers and 49ers). $2 million over doesnt worry me one bit. Thielen is suppose to restructure today from what I'm seeing so that alone gets us under. However, some of these teams might be making some serious moves today that could really hurt them.
Either way, I think signing Hicks and Phillips are both very notable and impactful signings. Others want the flashy big name. I, on the other hand, do not. I just saw a tweet yesterday saying "The Jaguars have spent $200 million in total contract money and have signed nobody near elite". This is what these dumpster fire teams do every. single. year. They have a ton of cap space and throw it around erratically every free agency. And what ends up happening, they cut their big free agent signings mid contract because they are "free agent busts" that arent panning out or arent worth the money. Like sure, Brandon Scherff is a big name for the Jaguars, but Brandon Scherff has also missed 21 games in his career and hasnt played a full season since 2015. I mentioned it in my mock. And he just got paid $17 million a year, more than Joe Thuney got last year on the open market. That's the definition of a desperate overpay. These big name free agents are simply chasing the bag and not caring what team it is they go to. This is exactly why I went with lower priced free agent signings in my mock.
The cap doesnt worry me. I just want the Vikings to be smart with their money (sure, enter Kirk Cousins) but outside of that priority position, be smart with your money. Dont fall for the $17 million a year Brandon Scherff contract when in the end, theres a good chance he wont be worth near that amount during his contract. Phillips is just as effective as Pierce was in terms of run defense and costs less. Hicks didnt cost us much at all and is an impact player who was better than anyone else we had at that position (referring to WLB). Those are smart signings if you ask me. That's being smart with your money. Now yes, I want some more of those like a guard or center, maybe a corner but you get the point. But so many fans freak out every free agency period because "we arent doing anything". Well I can tell you, there are a lot of teams that "arent doing anything". Many that are our immediate competition whether it be in division or in conference. We have barely touched any in-house player contracts and have still made two impactful signings. Expect restructures to happen today and more signings within the next day or two. I'm praying for JC Tretter.

Yep. I have heard nothing bad about the guy. Just because he's not a huge name doesn't mean he can't have huge value. Or even good value.Pondering Her Percy wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 10:58 pm One thing I will say regarding Phillips….

The way some people talk about some of our acquisitions you'd think it was OUR money the Vikes were spending on these guys.
