Russell Wilson a Bronco

Post by IIsweet »

The Denver Broncos are trading Drew Lock, multiple 1st round picks, and players to be named later for Russell Wilson.
This is HUGE news coupled with Aaron Rodgers resigning.
Kirk is now going to be trade target #1 for many teams out there thinking that they are a QB from the SB run !!!
If a team offered a young QB with some experience and multiple 1st round picks, I would be packing his knick knacks for him and sending him on his way !!!

I still think it is a pipe dream to think anybody is going to give up serious compensation for Cousins. Could some teams use him and would he be an improvement for them? Sure. Would any team be willing to give up more than a 2nd round pick for that privilege? I doubt it, at least not unless the Vikings eat a substantial portion of his deal for this coming year.

Vikes are stuck with Cousins for now. The question is, do they see Cousins as having a future in Minnesota beyond this coming season? I suspect we'll find out soon enough.

Certainly the more huge contracts that go up the more appealing his contract might look to other teams. Anybody else expected to get a huge extension? Another 2-3 might do it.

The dominoes are falling in quick succession today. Kirk's may fall soon too.

Cryptic tweets are floating around, for example:

Time will tell.

You think? At 33 I think he's got 2-3 really good years left in the tank at least. QBs routinely play until their late-30s these days. There's a lot more known about nutrition and staying healthy. There's better equipment. The rules also now make it safer to play the position.

Anyway, with the exception of Justin Jefferson (and we had 3 1st rounders over that period instead of 2 so we might have kept him), I'm pretty sure I'd trade our other last 2 1st rounders and last 2nd rounders for Wilson.

This is a HUGE haul of picks (and Fant, the other players aren't worth much) for RW. He's a heck of a QB, but this is nearly Herschel Walker levels of picks. (Not quite... and of course a franchise QB is worth more now than a RB has ever been worth in the NFL).

Colts or 49ers, possibly Browns, Buccs or Steelers seem like some of the better bets if the Vikings wanna move KC...of course we also know Carolina inquired.

Exactly. Once you put names to those picks they become a lot less valuable.

Plus, next year's are likely to be in the bottom 5 and not worth all that much.

Did the Vikings have any chance of getting Wilson? Did they at least try?

Can't believe he was available.

With the way contracts are going up Kirk's isn't looking that bad.
I was hopeful we could extend him at $30 million a year, but that bird has flown.

I continue to believe you’re dead wrong on this. Further, I would anticipate movement within the next week to 10 days.

My position remains … Kirk Cousins is one of the most polarizing players in the NFL. Many see Kirk Cousins as a guy who can’t lead a team on a deep playoff run. Many others see him as a guy who has never been in the right situation, and would represent a serious upgrade to many teams. And some teams have an even bigger incentive to get a guy like Cousins than others. For example, if you look at this through the eyes of Carolina, which has a coach on the hot seat, Cousins represents a chance to win a very weak division and save a job. Since Cousins has shown himself over and over to be a gravitational pull toward .500, that means a potential bump from 5 wins to 9 for Carolina. That would likely save the job of Matt Rhule, as well as GM Matt Fitterer.

In addition, the Vikings are now in an even worse position than they had been when it comes to an extension. Aaron Rodgers has set the market, and it’s now almost impossible to see Cousins accepting less than $40 million a year. Unless they see Cousins as the long-term answer at QB who merits a top-5 salary — I have a hard time believing that KAM and KOC view Cousins in that way — the Vikings have more incentive than ever to move him. They need to trade him or risk losing him with next to nothing in return.

Again, I believe Kirk Cousins has less than two weeks remaining in his Vikings career. The only questions I have are what will they get in return, and who will be the starting quarterback for the Vikings in 2022?

If you were Wilson would you want to come here? No OL he was #### about the Hawks OL. No D and then no 1st rounder for a couple of years. I imagine he would like another shot at a Super Bowl before it's over for him. Denver has a good D. The biggest problem was scoring. That should be fixed now.
