I got my neck hurt in a traffic accident in 2000 and ended up with a two-level fusion along with titanium bracing in 2001. When I heard about Hunter's injury my first thought at someone who went through the numbness and weakness in my arms and legs for a year before surgery and the subsequent recovery I paid closer than the usual attention to Daneielle Hunter's situation.
This article that came out today sums up my concerns about playing NFL football after this type of injury. Nobody can predict the final outcome to his playing career but I think the Vikings need to be aware that it could go either way which I'm certain that they are. Fortunately there appears to be younger players stepping up in a worse case scenario. I think Pierce opting out made a difference as well as that would have shored up the middle and done a better job keeping the run in check.

I honestly hope it doesn't become something similar to a Sharrif Floyd situation where he's forced to retire due to injury circumstances in the prime of his career.

Re: Interesting article about Hunter's injury
Wow. That is truly eye-opening.
"Warrior mentality." So many of us fans want our stars back on the field so badly that we don't understand when they sit out the year with something like this. We think that because they're paid so much, they ought to be out there. And Mike Zimmer calling it "just a tweak" certainly doesn't help from a public relations standpoint.
In a perfect world, Danielle Hunter would heal up completely and return to make our defense formidable again. But honestly, I want him to do what's best for his quality of life. The last thing I'd ever want is for him to return and end up a quadriplegic. I hope he realizes fame and money aren't worth that.
Hopefully Danielle Hunter makes the best decision for Danielle Hunter.

Go ahead. I dare you.

Really hope he can heal from this and come back better than ever. He's a special athlete and my favorite Viking. I do hope he does what's best for his future though. He has a lot of life left after football.

Re: Interesting article about Hunter's injury
The article was dated recently but speculated as to whether or not he would have surgery. I am guessing maybe it was recently updated and it changed the date. Regardless, that is still a concern as that type of injury has ended careers prematurely.
