What to expect???

Post by CodeRedCards »

Mike zimmer is one hell of a defensive coordinator. It doesn't matter which players he's been given to work with. He makes his defense into an annual top-ten unit and he should be one hell of a coach too. Norv Turner’s philosophy is the same scheme the Ravens have run since John Harbaugh, Joe Flacco and Ray Rice’s first day on the job in Baltimore, the “Air Coryell” system, and we all know that it works very well. Then you add what free agents you went out and got, and what about that 1st round draft getting 2 picks . What can we take from the draft.
A.BARR,
STRENGTHS: Perhaps most impressive qualities are Barr's balance, lateral agility and acceleration, which he uses to break down in the open field as well as when exploding into ballcarriers for ferocious hits.
Freakish combination of size and athleticism. Possesses long arms, extraordinary burst off the ball and explosive closing ability -- a terrifying combination that gives him an immediate advantage over pass-blockers. Developing swim move to complement his speed, and possesses the strength and use of leverage to effectively bull-rush.
Followed up breakout junior season with another standout campaign despite facing constant double-team attention. Causes holding penalties due to his athletic motor and power to rip through blocks.

WEAKNESSES: Still developing as a run defender,
Raw as a two-year player on the defensive side of the ball in coverage, and will need to pick up NFL schemes quickly to be more than a situational pass rusher as a rookie.
With that said who does he compare to, Compares To: Demarcus Ware.
Barr, UCLA, 6-5, 255, 4.66,
Now what about Teddy Bridgewater:
STRENGTHS: Comes from a pro-style offense at Louisville, and was among the nation's leaders in all passing categories when facing blitzes. Naturally steps through his progressions, and keeps his eyes focused downfield with defenders closing in on him. Can manipulate the defense with his eyes.
Shows very good weight distribution and passing mechanics. Steps into the face of pressure and delivers, showing admirable toughness on each snap to bounce back after big hits.
Smooth mobility to extend and move the pocket with the quickness to pick up yards with his legs if needed. Impressive accuracy and touch on throws to all levels of the field, and displays good accuracy while on the move.
Quick and efficient movements in his technique and does an excellent job with fakes, selling and focusing on the details. He is poised and with very good footwork in the pocket. Can keep defenses guessing with a sprinkling of read-option looks.
Mature and grounded individual who obviously loves football. Sharp-witted and retains information extremely well. Makes it look easy on the field and appears to "get it," elevating the play of those around him.

WEAKNESSES: He's mobile enough to extend plays, but isn't a true dual-threat quarterback.
Room to improve his touch and ball placement on downfield throws. Strong performances in big games including against Florida in the Sugar Bowl following the 2012 season, but played mediocre talent on a weekly basis in the American Athletic Conference.
Struggled with his accuracy during his pro day.
When all is said and done I think both these rookies are playing next season sooner than later I also believe they along with AP among others help Mike Zimmer get into the playoffs,
I will leave you guys a link , http://youtu.be/lizVzzsbFQU .shows another side from TB and his home life growing up and almost throwing his football dreams away.

I think this season will be for Zimmer to feel out how players work in the roles he puts them in. They could be dangerous in some games, but it's a tough schedule too. I don't expect playoffs in year 1, 2015 I do tho.

Its tempting to predict a 13-3 turnaround and COY for Zimmer but that would be a dangerous temptation. Nevertheless, I still think we make the playoffs because I have been of the mind for several years that we are minor personnel changes and big coaching changes away from getting deep into the playoffs. I don't think 10-6 is out of the question, but 9-7 may be more realistic. I really don't see how our current personnel could possibly be mismanaged into another sub-500 year.

There is no "getting a feel for the players" or any of that, because there's no time for it. Spielman's probably getting fired if AP leaves, and I seriously doubt AP's sticking around if we miss the playoffs. People are underestimating just how good this offense is, and I think the defense will be significantly better than it was last year. I think we win 11 or 12 games this year and take the division.

2014 strength of schedule ranking: 21st-
Opponents' combined 2013 winning percentage: .477

Games against 2013 playoff teams: 5
Honestly I see a 9 or 10 win season, maybe just maybe 11

Summary: In addition to their NFC North rivals, the Vikings will face every team from the NFC South and AFC East, and the fourth-place finishers from the NFC East and NFC West. The AFC EAST is weak other than N.E, and New Orleans Def stinks and St Louis is still trying to figure things out Atlanta will choke , the Bills are rebuilding, I really see 9 wins easy and I see a couple of close games so maybe 10 or 11 and playoffs :v):

Regular season schedule-

Sep. 7 at St. Louis Rams,
Sep. 14 New England Patriots,
Sep. 21 at New Orleans Saints,
Sep. 28 Atlanta Falcons, 4:25
Oct. 2 at Green Bay Packers (Thu), 8:25
Oct. 12 Detroit Lions,
Oct. 19 at Buffalo Bills,
Oct. 26 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers,
Nov. 2 Washington Redskins,
Nov. 9 BYE
Nov. 16 at Chicago Bears,
Nov. 23 Green Bay Packers,
Nov. 30 Carolina Panthers,
Dec. 7 New York Jets,
Dec. 14 at Detroit Lions,
Dec. 21 at Miami Dolphins,
Dec. 28 Chicago Bears,

To me next year is about three factors.

1.Total coaching change how fast and how
Hard do the Vikings players learn the new
offense and defense.

2. Fast start to the season IMO
if we don't win 2-3 games out of
the first there is almost no chance
we get the playoffs.

3. Good old fashion luck when
Comes to the health of players
on squad and our oppents
no one expects the Spanish Inquisition!

18/1 vegas odds of Vikings winning the NFC North. Time to p itt some money down. We all thought our division was going to be tough last year and it turned to crap. $1800 on $100 seems lkke it is worth the risk.

Unless GB and Da Bears have really bad
Luck and some strange things happening
to them I think a wildcard has a small
Chance though.,. 9-7 or 10-6

Breen Bay and Chicago ain't even that good though. The NFC North does have all explosive offenses though and limited defense. I think we can put the Vikings offense up there with any of them based on potential alone, but this division will come down to which team can find a defense first.

Playoffs is definitely a possibility.

I agree and if something happens to Stafford, Rogers, or Cutler then they can kiss their season good-bye. At least the Vikes are used to crappy QB play and could/can acclimate better to losing one of their starters, Bridgewater, Cassel or Ponder, than the others IMO

There's nothing other than potential on which to base that assertion.

And after the Vikings offense is on par with the other three teams in the division (well, potentially), then what? The Vikings' defense is as bad as any of them. That will all change, of course, as it always does. But try to remember that those other teams are trying to improve in exactly the same way that the Vikings are.

And what happens if we lose AP? Pray tell?
