Oh no, Jim, you're asking for it!

I found this middle section to be interesting:
"He is highly intelligent," Bowden said. "When he was a (redshirt) sophomore, he had graduated from Florida State. All of them (NFL quarterbacks) have good arms, but he has the ability to make the right decisions. I know that he has struggled at times this season, but I think his best days are ahead of him."
Bowden said Ponder still was maturing when he finished at Florida State. That's why Bowden actually was surprised Ponder was drafted so high.
"We didn't think he would go in the first round," Bowden admitted. "But I've always felt that he was a player with a future."

Me too. I actually think that's one of the things that Ponder really struggles with. Ponder could have a decent backup career, but I'm not expecting him to suddenly break out one of these years.Texas Vike wrote:Oh no, Jim, you're asking for it!![]()

I thought that was interesting too. Perhaps in an alternate universe somewhere, Ponder was drafted in R2 by a better team, spent his first two seasons on the bench, learning and developing his game, and is now starting and looking more like the QB Bowden thinks he can be in the NFL.

Good news, Jim! I hired a couple Hells Angels from the Chicago chapter to come over and beat you up! They'll be arriving soon.Mothman wrote:I seem to be a glutton for punishment today.

man Jim just cover something in foil and stick it a light socket and
you might get the same result as posting that at a Vikings forum

I'm encouraged by the responses so far. Note that I'm staying out of the "Ponder might start if Freeman doesn't" discussion though!

Just hire up some homies and problem solved! Hells Angels don't try to act so tough in front of African American gangs unless they have a police escort!losperros wrote: Good news, Jim! I hired a couple Hells Angels from the Chicago chapter to come over and beat you up! They'll be arriving soon.

Just so long as that bright future is with another team, I'll be happy. Ponder isn't going to vanish when he leaves the Vikings, but I suspect people will be asking 'whatever happened to ...' when he's a backup QB for the Bills or the Jaguars.

He may. But I doubt it will be with the Vikings. Had he the ability to sit for two years and learn it may, MAY, have helped. Some QB's need more time. Ponder is one of them. Of course, more time may not do it for him. And the Vikings don't have the time to give him.
Vikings fan since Nov. 6, 1966. Annoying Packer fans since Nov. 7, 1966

I agree with this wholeheartedly. He may (and if our luck holds it will be the first year after we cut/trade him) turn into an NFL caliber starting QB. I still think it is the right call to "move on".Raptorman wrote:He may. But I doubt it will be with the Vikings. Had he the ability to sit for two years and learn it may, MAY, have helped. I've told people a million times not to exaggerate!
Re: Bobby Bowden: Christian Ponder has bright NFL future
Indeed. I encourage Ponder to move on and continue his NFL career. No need to move far though. Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin is plenty far and he'll have several quality teams and quality QBs to learn from. I hope we get to play against him soon, and often.
