Hijacking
mods and Glg ..
can we please do something about all the thread hi jacking of late (especially the
ponder ones). we have a decent thread about a topic, such as a free agent pick-up
; and then its gets killed by someone wanting to bring up their love or hate about Ponder.
I am sure we have twenty threads covering these issues already. If they want they post
ten thousand times in one of those threads.

Re: Hijacking
I don't think it serves the board well for the mods to put rigid limits on what can be discussed in each thread. The discussion will go where it's going to go and that can be beneficial as well as detrimental.
Most of that Bishop thread is about Bishop. It went off course a bit but the best way to get it back on topic is to continue discussing Bishop. Is there much left to say on the subject at this point? If so, as people say it the thread will re-focus on it's main subject.
Personally, I don't think thread hijacking is enough of a problem to ask the mods to spend their time policing it. If a thread can't be steered back on course it probably means people have lost interest or run out of things to say about the original topic.

Re: Hijacking
I agree with Mothman. Things tend to get off track on a message board, and that's fine. As long as it's about football and the Vikings, it should be okay. More than that, I think the mods babysit enough.
As far as the Ponder stuff, ha, I remember when someone got a little huffy when James made another Ponder thread. They suggested all has been said. And yet, somehow that Ponder thread has six-freakin-pages of comments. I guess the topic isn't exhausted quite yet.

Re: Hijacking
Well, I actualloy agree with jackal about many of the threads. I could start a thread about maple syrup and within three posts someone would bring up how Christian Ponder once ate maple syrup on his pancakes and how, therefore, he is not the answer for the Vikings future. It is annoying to start a thread only to have it go down the same path that every other thread on the board does.
I'm not saying that the mods need to be more strict, just that I can totally agree with, and I understand where jackal is coming from.

Ponder sucks. He just does. I don't care what you say.
But it's not all Ponder's fault. Let me explain to you exactly why...

Re: Hijacking
I understand it too but I don't think policing the flow of conversation is the answer. Most (if not all ) of us are adults. We should be able handle this issue ourselves. For example, when someone starts posting about Ponder in a thread unrelated to the QB, here's a radical idea: politely ask them to please refrain from steering the thread off course and to post about Ponder in a Ponder thread.PurpleMustReign wrote:Well, I actualloy agree with jackal about many of the threads. I know courtesy is almost unheard of on the internet so it's a radical idea but it just might work.

One of these days you need to provide us with a list of approved topics.Eli wrote:Ponder sucks. He just does. I don't care what you say.

I love the Vikings; don't know I just do! The NFL, specifically
the Vikings I want to discuss all year long. I don't people discussing
Ponder or whatever pops up; maybe they can enough common
Courtesy to type back to thread or comment about the actual
topic itself. I don't want this to be a police state or world war 2
Germany.

You're just saying that because you're ugly.Mothman wrote:I know courtesy is almost unheard of on the internet so it's a radical idea but it just might work.

Re: Hijacking
It's not a matter of approval. It's a matter of not being so gullible that you jump at the opportunity to respond to every damned troll posting in the forum.

Re: Hijacking
The reason I don't step in is because it's pretty subjective as to what constitutes "hijacking" and what is just natural flow of conversation. For example, you posted the following comment about Ponder recently in a post about Micheal Mauti.
Maybe the Vikings would be better off with our new back up anyways.
We will see this season how he plays and if he can stay healthy when it
counts.

It's an online forum where people talk, vent, rant, opine, etc. So what if it takes a right turn. It usually gets back on the road. There are far greater crimes, like fb.

Re: Hijacking
This is probably beyond the mods abilities but a filter for users would be a good idea. That way you could type in a word or phrase (for example "Ponder") and any posts in any threads containing that word won't be seen. And perhaps an option to filter out the posts of users you choose as well.
