Holy crap!

We offered this guy $76 million and he turned it down? Because he thinks he has a better shot at a Super Bowl with Miami?

I say he's full of it. My guess is that Miami offered him more guaranteed money.

I'm dubious of the whole thing. I'm glad we got Jennings and CP. I'm glad Harvin is no longer an issue and I'm glad Mike Wallace will be counting rings in Miami.

This isn't news, this was already mentioned in the media back when he signed with the 'Phins. From what I've read he had his mind set on playing for a warm weather team (helps his asthma or something), so not surprising that he didn't want to play for the Vikes knowing that 2014 and 2015 home games will be played outside in the Minnesota fall/winter. The Vikings knew this and offered him more money to try changing his mind.

Yep, it's old"news".

The source of this info is Wallace's father and even if it's true and accurate, it doesn't mean much since no details are available. Maybe it was a bigger offer but involved less guaranteed money or a longer commitment, more performance-based incentives, etc. That bottom line number, even if accurate, doesn't necessarily tell us the Vikes truly made a more appealing offer.

I think that's a big part of it. That and Florida has no state taxes and he'd rather wallow on the beach during the season instead of ice fishing.
A successful coach needs a patient wife, loyal dog, and great quarterback - and not necessarily in that order.

trust me on this one, i'm a viking fan stuck in steeler country and everyone (including the steelers) couldn't wait to get rid of wallace. he has a poor attitude, bad hands, and is completely one dimensional. even though jennings is older, i'm 100 percent certain we made the right move.

Really? I heard the Vikings didn't try very hard at all to keep Rice. I was too irritated to look into it, though. I didn't realize they made him a significant offer.

As far as Wallace is concerned...oh well. I like how things turned out with Jennings and the draft.

I dont believe they offered that much either, I dont even think the Vikings have that much money to spend anyway. Just Papa Wallace wanting people to believe it wasn't about the money for his some. But why lie? This is the NFL. We know it's about the money. Greg Jennings basically came here because of the money but that's not wrong. If a team thinks a certain player its worth a lot of money then that is their fate they chosen.

But I do believe the Vikings probably went after Wallace before they went after Jennings. And im glad Wallace decided not to come here because I believe he is another headache and said before the FA started that Jennings would be the better option out of those two. Jennings over Wallace any day.

If--big if--the Vikings offered $76 million, I'm glad it didn't work out. Also, someone needs smacked around for offering that much--partly because of the WR himself and partly because of our QB. I love Ponder, but it's not like we can go around spending close to $80 million on a deep threat WR until we know he can get the ball there accurately and consistently. Nothing about this makes any sense. I'm just glad we got Jennings and drafted the way we did. That was just way too much money to put into him. I hope he enjoys Miami. Good for him--and good for us!

I've heard the same criticisms from others about Wallace. Personally, I'm glad the Vikings signed Jennings. He seems to be the more complete WR of the two.

My only concern about Jennings is his ability to remain healthy.

This is what I was talking about. I have trouble believing the FO offered this guy that much money to begin with....but if they did I'm thankful he turned them down for whatever reason. I don't care what his dad says, I think his attitude is crap as far as building a solid team goes. He made just as many headlines by holding out and being a headache as he did with his actual play on the field. Doesn't strike me as the kind of personality you'd want to be influencing your younger WRs, like Randy Moss to Percy Harvin. OTOH Jennings is damn near perfect from that perspective.

I really think we got better the way it all worked out...I hope Ponder can deliver the proof on that.
