Re: PFT Vikings Mt. Rushmore
It's tough to pick 4! I went with Page, Tarkenton, Grant and Adrian Peterson. I almost left Grant off to stick with players only and include Carl Eller.
If I was voting based on faces that would actually look great carved on a mountain, I'd have included Grant and Eller because let's face it, they have "mountain faces".

Such a hard decision!
I had to go: Randle, Marshall, Page, Peterson

Impossible to pick. But I tried anyway. AD was an easy pick for me. Aside from that, I went with some '98 team players.
AD, Carter, Moss, and Randle.
AD, Carter, Moss, and Randle.

I almost went Yary, Page, Moss, and Peterson but I choose the former.

These are probably my four. Mainly because these guys were my era. Never got to see (except for highlights) the Grant era and the Purple People Eaters or Tarkenton.losperros wrote:Impossible to pick. But I tried anyway. AD was an easy pick for me. Aside from that, I went with some '98 team players.

It's hard for me to consider any that didn't appear in a Super Bowl. And if one of those teams had actually _won_ a Super Bowl it would be impossible for me to vote for anyone not on that team.
Moss? I honestly can't believe that one. A truly great player, but one of the last people I'd consider as one of the faces of the franchise.

I was iffy about Moss in that respect at first...but he really did do a lot to turn this franchise around in his time and there is a whole generation of younger fans as a direct result of his Vikingness.Eli wrote:It's hard for me to consider any that didn't appear in a Super Bowl. On the other hand, there are 7-8 guys from the 70's who I couldn't argue against at all.....
what about Mt Bust-more? Spurgeon Wynn, Onterrio Smith, Troy Williamson, Demetrius Underwood

Smith doesn't belong on the list. He was effective when he played. He had a slew of 100 yard games IIRC.The Breeze wrote:what about Mt Bust-more? Spurgeon Wynn, Onterrio Smith, Troy Williamson, Demetrius Underwood
I know he was a nice guy and all, but this stat is the most amazing thing I've ever seen:
Zero sacks from your starting DE for the season. That's just mind-boggling.Kineche Udeze Wikipedia page wrote:In 2006 he was once again the starter at left defensive end, playing 16 games, starting 15 and recorded 29 tackles and no sacks.

My point with Onterrio was the waste of potential. I thought he was going to be a major force for the Vikes....he definitely had the talent. Then he rubber-donged his way to infamy.John_Viveiros wrote:

That is a mind boggling stat for Udeze....I wonder how that guy is doing?
edit:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenechi_UdezeDuring his illness, Udeze decided to return to USC and take classes to finish his degree. In May 2010, Udeze graduated with a degree in sociology.[5][6]
Former USC assistant coach Steve Sarkisian, who became head coach of the Washington Huskies, hired Udeze as an assistant strength and conditioning coach, and also working with the defensive line. He also works heavily with charities that help raise money for cancer research. assistant coach Steve Sarkisian, who became head coach of the Washington Huskies, hired Udeze as an assistant strength and conditioning coach, and also working with the defensive line. Wow, that's a hard decision.
I went with Grant, Page, Tarkenton and Peterson.
Really had a hard time leaving Moss, Carter and Marshall off the list, but Grant was the definition of the Vikings for so long, and the one most responsible for turning the franchise into a long-time winner (even though he wasn't a player, which I almost made my first rule). Page was probably the first superstar of the franchise and one of the most dominant defenisve players in NFL history, let along Vikings history. Tarkenton, well, it's hard to imagine leaving off the best quarterback in team history, a HOFer and the holder of all the significant passing records at the time he retired. And Peterson is considered the best at his position of his era, and arguably the most spectacular player the Vikings have ever had (although Randy Moss certainly could also be considered).
Moss was incredible, a massive talent, and surely a Hall of Famer ... but, for all the amazing years he had in purple, theres something that didn't say Vikings to me as the others. Carter ... He was the toughest to leave off. I'm an Ohio State fan, and he had the best hands that I've ever seen -- and maybe the best hands in history. It came down to him and AD, and as good as Carter was, I think Peterson is better at running with the ball than Carter was catching it. Marshall was tough to ignore in the same vein as Grant. He defined the Vikings.
Eller and Randle were also difficult to leave off. But Rushmore only has four slots.

Definitely hard to only pick 4. Tarkenton, Grant, Peterson, Page. Should be more then 4. I'd add Carter, Marshall, Doleman, Yary, Krause.

Re: PFT Vikings Mt. Rushmore
I think this is harder for the people who were around for 60's/70's greatness and swing more that way. I personally think Randall McDaniel and Korey Stringer not being nominees is sad.
For me, I am 27 years old, and I truly remember all of the 90s and would swing my votes towards that generation and I know old schoolers will frown upon my picks I'd do:
Carter
Moss
Randle
Stringer
