Re: cris carters son to be viking!!
I'm a little bit excited about this. I think it's wishful thinking. lol. But, I suppose this is why we didn't go WR again in the draft, because of this guy and 8 more just like him.
CC says he's a great player (a little biased probably lol), and he just had problems because he hated school. I hope this works out!

I wish him the best of luck and hope he will be able to develop and become a great WR like his father.
Re: cris carters son to be viking!!
Me too. Maybe he has been a lazy bum in the past, but he was a kid? Why shouldn't we give him a chance if for no other reason than to thank his dad?JEC334 wrote:I wish him the best of luck and hope he will be able to develop and become a great WR like his father.
I hope he tears it up when he gets to Mankato.

Re: cris carters son to be viking!!
He had a very underwhelming college career:
This sounds like a favor for Cris and nothing more. I doubt he ever sees the field.
He played for Ohio State, like his father, for one year in 2009 and had 13 receptions for 176 yards and one touchdown. He left Columbus because of academic reasons and spent one at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas, where he caught 10 touchdown passes, before transferring to Alabama in 2011 but was never eligible there. He then moved on to Florida Atlantic last year and never saw the field there in a game.

Nepotism is a part of life. I disagree with it, but its prevalent everywhere even in football.
Re: cris carters son to be viking!!
On the other hand, friendship, loyalty and charity are valuable qualities so is giving CC's son a chance to earn a training camp roster spot during mini-camps nepotism or just a charitable act, a favor for someone who did a lot for the Vikings organization? I don't know but Duron Carter must have talent or he never would have ended up associated with football programs at schools like Ohio State or Alabama in the first place. I doubt anything comes of this but who knows? There may be something in it for the Vikings.S197 wrote:Nepotism is a part of life. I disagree with it, but its prevalent everywhere even in football.

On another board, it was suggested that the Vikes might use this as leverage to persuade Cris to join the staff as a WR coach. It would certainly be interesting to see what impact he could have should that happen.
This signature predicted the great 2014 - 2025 Vikings dynasty!
Re: cris carters son to be viking!!
To me that's just semantics. You can call it a charitable act but in the end what you are describing is nepotism, which is giving favor to one based on kinship. I don't think anyone here honestly believes he would have received a chance if it were not for Cris Carter being his father.Mothman wrote: On the other hand, friendship, loyalty and charity are valuable qualities so is giving CC's son a chance to earn a training camp roster spot during mini-camps nepotism or just a charitable act, a favor for someone who did a lot for the Vikings organization? Like I said, nepotism is part of every aspect of the business world, that's why he was at Ohio State and Alabama. Schools that gave him a chance and yet he was unable to get on the field for academic reasons and was eventually suspended. While I'm sure the kid has talent, he's not here because he put up a highlight reel showing against "Dodge City." He's here for one reason and one reason only, his father. Hopefully he's grateful for chance after chance that he's getting. Most people only get one.

Re: cris carters son to be viking!!
It really seems like Cris Carter spoiled the heck out of that kid. He's made a lot of excuses for a kid that seems like he couldn't keep himself academically eligible for 4 years.
He's a 6' 5" receiver...a lot of schools would love to have a recruit like that with a HOF pedigree and would probably lay down the red carpet for him. Considering that Duron couldn't stick with one school for more than a season, it sure seems like he's a chronic underachiever that doesn't take his future seriously. Not liking school is one thing, but if he can't do his best at school for even the sole purpose of being able to play football, that should set off red flags for anyone. I'm sure the Vikings just wanted to keep his dad happy with the organization so they gave the kid a shot. It's as much a business decision as any...Cris Carter is a sports analyst that has a lot of people listening to him every week. The fans still remember Cris Carter very fondly. He's kind of part of their marketing capabilities in a way. If there were a feud between the Vikings and Carter, some fans/season ticket holders might start questioning who in the organization is so crazy as to insult one of their Hall of Fame greats. I'm sure front offices take that sort of thing into account because they certainly are very media sensitive businesses.
