Kalil added to Pro Bowl

Minnesota Vikings T Matt Kalil has been named to his 1st Pro Bowl replacing Washington Redskins T Trent Williams who will not be able to appear due to injury. The rookie out of Southern California started in all 16 games this season including the Wild Card Playoff in Green Bay.

The 4th overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft tied a Vikings rookie-record for most starts (16) in a season by an offensive tackle. He joined Gary Zimmerman (’86) and Todd Steussie (’94) as rookie tackles to start in all 16 games.

Kalil was part of the offensive line that allowed RB Adrian Peterson to rush for the 2nd highest single-season total (2,097) in NFL history. The Vikings rushing attack ranked 2nd in the NFL over the 2012 season and tied a team record (’07) for most rushing yards in a season with 2,634. Kalil becomes the 4th Vikings rookie to make the Pro Bowl since 2007 joining: Adrian Peterson (’07), Percy Harvin (’09) and Blair Walsh (’12).

Kalil is the 7th Viking selected to the 2012 Pro Bowl joining: Jared Allen, Jerome Felton, Chad Greenway, Adrian Peterson, Kyle Rudolph and Blair Walsh.

It has just been announced that Minnesota Vikings guard Brandon Fusco will be the 19th Minnesota Viking added to the 2013 Pro Bowl roster. The game this year has been pushed back until Monday, January 28th so that the NFL can fly in enough players to field eleven on each side. Pro Bowl organizers decided that this would be best for the game, rather than going with their original plan to play nine-man football after a record 347 players have dropped out due to injury and lack of interest. Fusco will be taking the place of NFC replacement guard Allen Jacobsen who decided to honor a prior commitment to go ice fishing.

I don't know why they didn't leave the Pro-Bowl the way it was (a week after the Super Bowl and in Hawaii). It's "pseudo-football" anyway and I always watched it as a way to "wean myself" from football during the off-season. Now? I couldn't care less. (I didn't care much about it before, but it was more of a "party atmosphere" that I watched just to see the players "one last time" before the off-season) The Super Bowl has yet to be played and many of the players who should be in the Pro-Bowl won't be there because they have the biggest game of their lives coming up in another week. Just one of the things Goodell has messed up in the NFL IMHO.

I am glad he got in, but, in all honesty, the one guy on the offensive line that should have made it to the Pro Bowl is John Sullivan. He is much better than Jeff Saturday and Max Unger.

Very interesting how Kalil made the Pro Bowl, other than the fact that he will be there for the next ten years

"The announcement Friday that Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams was being scratched from the game and replaced by Matt Kalil gave a rare peek behind the curtain of the NFL’s true intent of the Pro Bowl. The fact that Williams’ skull was in the vicinity of a champagne bottle and his body in the vicinity of a Taser in the early hours of Friday morning in Hawaii. The fact that the incident happened at 1:30 a.m. (mama always said nothing good happens after midnight) on Friday morning spoke to a couple of things".

Matt Kalil reveals his late season illness was pneumonia. He lost 20 pounds, finished season around 290.

Damn. I know when I had pneumonia I was bed ridden! Scary part is Kalil still played well those last couple of games.
