http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Greg ... back010913"Everything's coming along good," Childs said. "I'll definitely be back. It's not even a question or whatever. It's just mainly me continuing doing what I'm doing out here, continue my rehab, continue to stay focused and just getting ready to go."
Childs tore the patellar tendon in his right knee in October 2010 at the University of Arkansas and admittedly wasn't himself the following season. That contributed to his slide to the Vikings in the fourth round of April's draft.
He was making a positive impression in training camp until Aug. 4, when he crashed to the turf untouched while diving for a pass and suffered the same injury in both knees.
"It's more mental than anything," Childs said. "There's certain things that you have to wait until you're able to do. You can't just go right into it. But it definitely helps I done I did it before, so I know I can definitely do it again. I'm doing it.
"That's just how it goes. Most people are like, 'Ahh ...' No, I'm going to find a way to do this. I'm going to find a way to do this. If there ain't no way, you make your own way. That's basically what I'm doing now. So, everything will be good to go."

The big question is, in what capacity. And when?

Exactly. If he comes back, will he be able to stay healthy? Will he be able to play at an NFL level?Eli wrote: And for how long?
It would be a great story if he could come back and have a good NFL career but the Vikes would be wise to plan as if that's not going to happen and accept it as a pleasant surprise if it does.
Re: Vikings' Childs: "I'll definitely be back"
Not everybody can have knees like Peterson ... and this guy didn't even take a hit to become injured.
I just can't imagine him coming back and having an inpact. It would be great if he did though, the Vikings need help at WR pretty badly.

This guy will be the biggest question mark over the offseason IMO. I think what they do on draft day and during FA will say a lot about where they think Child's fits into the puzzle. My guess is they'll assume he won't make it back, but if they do what folks will describe as "not enough" to address the WR issues, then it might mean they think he is going to be a factor.
Purely speculation, but Childs has the skill set and body this team desparately needs. Here is to hoping the Vikings experience another miracle knee recovery in 2013!

banking on this guy ever playing again is a terrible idea. our front office better address the WR needs in FA and the draft.
Re: Vikings' Childs: "I'll definitely be back"
I really hope he can be healthy and come back. Wide reciever is our most important need right now and he could be a huge addition to our team. I really want this guy to come back and succeed in the NFL.

I can't even imagine banking on him if he makes it through the preseason and onto the active roster. Do you actually give him a roster spot and cut a healthy player with upside, not knowing if the next play will be Childs' last?smoothoperator wrote:banking on this guy ever playing again is a terrible idea. our front office better address the WR needs in FA and the draft.
I suppose the one thing the Vikings have going for them is that they currently have no WR on the roster, except for Harvin and possibly Wright, who isn't expendable and easily replaced. If he bumps someone like Burton then it's no great loss. But I expect the Vikings to bring in a LOT of wide receivers this off season to compete for starting jobs.

I was looking forward to seeing him. Maybe AD can spend some time with him, just being that close to AD may help him recover faster. But as bad as we need WRs, how long do we sit on him? (

I'm sure AD is talking with him. If he's talking to Derrick Rose, I would hope he's talking to his teammate.PurpleKoolaid wrote:I was looking forward to seeing him. I was kind of joking. I meant like sitting next to him, holding his hand, chanalling his energy into him (like the dude from the green mile). AD is godlike both on and off the field.S197 wrote: I'm sure AD is talking with him. If he's talking to Derrick Rose, I would hope he's talking to his teammate.

David Kahn would. Heck he paid Brandon Roy $5 million and he will probably never play again.smoothoperator wrote:banking on this guy ever playing again is a terrible idea. our front office better address the WR needs in FA and the draft.

I hope for the best with Childs. He's a guy who could contribute if he's healthy.

Just three letters. That is sometimes the difference between a slim ray of hope and utter suicidal despair.
Vikings' Childs: "I'll definitely be back" vs. Vikings' Childress: "I'll definitely be back"

What a bonus if Childs could come back. He looked great in camp and preseason. He has good size, speed and hands.
