Simpson is back...
Well our second best receiver or best depending on how you rank Harvin is back next week. We beat the best team and our offense should be better with
the speedy Simpson on the field. From what I have seen I am hoping Burton is the one dropped. After the Niner's win its hard not to get drunk on the purple
kool aid right now. we have Detroit on the road next week. If we win that game it would be huge for us.

I think they should drop Carlson, but I don't think that will happen.jackal wrote:Well our second best receiver or best depending on how you rank Harvin is back next week. We beat the best team and our offense should be better with

I forgot about this... I can't wait to see our offense work together now!

Re: Simpson is back...
I agree that Carlson has been a disappointment so far.
That said, I'm elated that Simpson will be out there playing from now on.

Not only Simpson but Wright should be active next week as well.

Re: Simpson is back...
Carlson has been a complete failure for us I wouldn't mind them cutting him. I don't know
how his contract is set up though. I would rather have one of the young on the field more
than Carlson right now.
Maybe get rid of Carlson and Burton and add Simpson and Wright

I suspect that he is quite happy to be cleared to play.

Jumping for joy, in fact.

I hope we give Wright a real chance too- we need another electric little guy opposite of Percy, or to give Percy breathers. For me, I want the odd man out to be DA. I dislike Jenkins, but he's the veteran and can be reliable at times. I want to see more Burton as I think he can run real nice routes. DA has been given many chances, and he's proven to be errr...a 4th stringer at best.
His 40 yards time was 4.47 at the combine, and that is fast time.

I am really excited for simpson's return. He will be a huge threat and will help us get the win over the lions. its always nice to have a really athletic receiver on the team, I think he will be very fun to watch.
Re: Simpson is back...
Simpson has also electronically clocked a 4.35. Anyway, forget the 40 yard dash times. Nobody catches this guy from behind. Speed is one of his weapons.A.D_blazing wrote:

It also takes more than pure acceleration to be a good deep receiver. Sustained speed, jumping ability, and reading the trajectory of the pass are all equally important. Simpson does all of those well.

Simpson might not be an elite receiver, but I like that he's at least going to provide some sort of threat outside of Harvin at receiver.

I hope he doesn't mean that literally, or else they'll both be suspended. Yes, I'm joking.
Am I alone in thinking that Simpson may not be the savior that many fans are hoping he will be? I hope to be proven wrong on this, but I have a feeling we'll barely notice his return. Did this guy just light things up in the pre-season and I missed it? Or was he a superstar in Cincy (I don't watch too many non-Viking games)? Or is it that we so desperately NEED a deep threat that we're going to convince ourselves that Simpson's the answer?
Re: Simpson is back...
No, I don't think he'll be a savior but I don't think they need one either. I expect Simpson to provide a downfield receiving threat and to eventually help open up the passing game and enable the offense to make more explosive plays but the Vikings aren't exactly waiting for Larry Fitzgerald to show up. Simpson is a player with a skill set this offense needs but I expect him to be rusty and even when he shakes the rust off, I don't think he'll suddenly become one of the league's top WRs.Texas Vike wrote:Am I alone in thinking that Simpson may not be the savior that many fans are hoping he will be?

The Vikings desperately NEED a deep threat and Simpson helps provide one. As Moth said, he may be rusty at first. Personally, though, I think Simpson does have the skill set to be an elite receiver. His problems have to do with retaining focus in a game, not with his physical abilities. Simpson's athleticism is off the charts.
Don't forget that Simpson's presence on the field not only opens up the passing game but it creates a problem for opposing Ds that want to stack the line against Adrian Peterson. If they keep playing eight in the box, it could mean better play action and some deep hits to Simpson for big gains, if not TDs.
Simpson being back is a win/win for the Vikings. He'll help the offense in more than one way.
I believe Jarius Wright can also be a factor in stretching the field as long as Frazier and his staff actually give him some shots.
