Didn't want to start a new thread. Unlikely, I know. But not a horrible option for a fourth?
Nick Foles - QB - Eagles
Philly Mag: Birds 24/7 blog says fielding trade inquiries about Nick Foles is "absolutely an option" for the Eagles.
After the news was announced that Philadelphia had restructured Michael Vick's contract to keep him around for 2013, head coach Chip Kelly said the Eagles are "not ruling out anything" when it comes to a possible trade. The Philadelphia Daily News said earlier on Monday that Vick's new contract means "nothing good" for Foles. Philly Mag thinks Foles could fetch nothing more than a mid-round pick. Andy Reid and the Chiefs make sense as a potential landing spot.

Tom Pelissero discusses why the Vikings shouldn't waste any time moving on from Joe Webb:

More at the link.It was the Tuesday before the Minnesota Vikings' wild-card playoff game at Green Bay, and whispers of concern had begun to spread through the building.
Not so much about Christian Ponder's bruised triceps, which many believed would heal in time for him to attempt a repeat of his stellar performance against the Packers two days earlier.
The concern was about backup quarterback Joe Webb, whose awful showing in the first practice of a short week foreshadowed his abysmal play four days later in a 24-10 loss at Lambeau Field.
Coaches gave Webb the benefit of the doubt because it was his first time running the No. 1 offense all season and they'd included only five or six "Joe" plays in the game plan.
Players figured Ponder would at least give it a go and, even if he didn't, the Packers defense might be so susceptible to Webb's legs they'd still have a chance.
Webb did show signs of progress during the week and lit it up in pregame warm-ups, a couple hours after hopes of Ponder starting died with an abbreviated throwing session.
Once the game began, though, Webb was back to his Tuesday form, completing only 7 of 24 passes for 61 yards until the Packers had built a three-touchdown lead and called off the dogs.
Re: Joe Webb (Moving Forward)
Despicable that the team is even in that position. What a complete lack of any sort of foresight by whoever made this ridiculous call. A couple of complete and utter pieces of football feces backing up Ponder. And now talk it might be the same drill this year. Is Ponder so fragile mentally or emotionally they feel they have to coddle an nfl starting quarterback? What other reason is there to so thoroughly ignore the backup QB position? Preposterousness! If he's not going to get his head out of the sand on Ponder, at LEAST get some real options in there behind him. Cut Webb and MBT tomorrow and the team is better off for it.It was the Tuesday before the Minnesota Vikings' wild-card playoff game at Green Bay, and whispers of concern had begun to spread through the building.
Re: Joe Webb (Moving Forward)
+1. Matt Moore would be my hands down choice of the three. My secret desire is that the Vikings will get Ponder, Moore and a third guy in camp and while initially calling Ponder their appointed starter, soon realize that he's not as good as one of the others and he loses the starting job before week one.80 PurplePride 84 wrote:What is wrong with Moore, Thigpen or Gradkowski as Peiissero is suggesting/reportig? It's not like we're gonna have the savior of the franchise backing Ponder up.
+1. I'm counting on this.I do hope they invest a mid-late round pick in someone to develop as a 3rd string instead of MBT.
Re: Joe Webb (Moving Forward)
Capable back ups? Moore couldn't even beat out David Gerrard last year. None of those guys are capable of anything. Much less going in for Ponder and giving us any sort of a chance. They're bottom of the barrel trash and the only reason they're still in the league is desperate teams with QB depth worse than ours was forced to give them snaps due to injury and incompetence. Is it really too much to ask to bring in a veteran? Or hell go ahead and draft a guy or two. Bring in a handful of undrafted free agents and let god sort them out. All three of those bums is a waste of an NFL roster spot. And that's what we're seriously looking at? Re: Joe Webb (Moving Forward)
Completely disagree with everything you just said. Matt Moore is only one year removed from coming in for the Dolphins and playing very good quarterback while making a team competitive that otherwise shouldn't have been. And all of those guys mentioned are veterans with valuable playing experience. Not sure why you don't see them as vets. All would know and understand their role and help Ponder develop without hassling anyone for playing time. They can certainly play decent football for a few game stretch in the NFL. Both Thigpen and Gradkowski showed promise that teams gave them a chance to be starters, because of some stretches of play that were at a good level of play. We found out that they aren't starters, but when looked at in the backup role, are very capable.Demi wrote: Capable back ups? Moore couldn't even beat out David Gerrard last year. Bring in Moore or Thigpen (who has been on this team before) and draft Wilson. We should all be very content with that.

Re: Joe Webb (Moving Forward)
It really makes me sick to my stomach that the Vikings have let this QB situation happen. We have a horrible starter (just my opion, which im entitled to, I dont care if other QBs are equally bad, I just care about the Vikes). Webb should never have been a backup either. And yet, years later, they are still both on this team. And there are still some that are ponder apologists, just like they probablly were for Tjoke.
If Ponder does turn the corner this year I will be happily surprised. If he doesnt, we will hear all of the usually excuses once again, and the how the kid should get yet another year And it wont surprise me id Webb is still the backup. Maybe MBT will be replaced at somepoint. I just cant imagine running an organization like this for the past few years.

Re: Joe Webb (Moving Forward)
I expect the Vikes to address QB with one of their 2 4th rounders this year. It won't be to put direct pressure on Ponder per se, but rather be an effort to find a viable backup and someone who can push for the starting job later.PurpleKoolaid wrote:It really makes me sick to my stomach that the Vikings have let this QB situation happen. Next year's QB class is shaping up to be a rare class. There are up to 4 quarterbacks there who could merit top-10 selections, so I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Vikes make a move up next year (assuming they are not drafting in the top 10) and try to snag one of them if Ponder continues his inconsistent ways.
Regardless, I don't think this is a situation that will go unresolved for a few seasons. Everyone saw how Ponder played last year, and everyone, including Ponder, knows he has to show improvement this coming year. I do not see him getting nearly the same benefit of the doubt even by those willing to criticize the receiving talent, the offensive line, or the playcalling.

Many call them excuses I call them reasons. I am the biggest Ponder supporter on this board and I will state that IF the Vikings shore up the pass protection, Harvin comes back and is healthy, and the Vikes get a legitimate deep threat and Ponder does not improve by leaps and bounds I will definately agree that he had 2.5 years to develop and if he has not I would definately be all for a QB change.

Whats a joke? Your posts? Ponder? Vikings management? That Ponder is going into his 3rd year and DBs still wont waste a second thinking about him or where he might be throwing the ball, but putting thier ENTIRE focus on where AD is?Purple bruise wrote:geez what a joke"Years later"
