This is only good if we get rid of Ponder, and still draft a QB in the first round next year. Other wise, what good does it do? The dude is a bit of a headcase.

I think a lot of when Freeman starts is up to Cassell. If he plays good, the Vikings rack up a few wins and stay relevant in the playoff race it will be awhile. Cassell blows, we lose a couple of more games and Freeman sees the field a lot quicker.

From what im hearing on ESPN, the Vikings may get rid of MBT in favor of Freeman. They said Ponder is still the starter but I highly doubt it. I don't think they would go out their way to get this guy to have him sit behind Cassel or Ponder.

That sure screams of the Vikings planning on him playing at least a bit this year. If Cassel loses the next couple games, Freeman is our franchise QB. (Assuming he transitions nicely to our offense.)
you are assuming of course that they even have a plan :point:

I'm confused why people believe this is Cassel's job to lose? Was he better than Ponder, absolutely. But overall he wasn't that great or efficient, and that was against the Steelers defense which can't create a turnover and is the worst in the league at rushing the passer. Cassel has proven in his career to struggle mightily when under pressure.

Freeman was signed to start and he will as soon as he's up to speed, count on it

Can someone explain all these headcase comments? Aside from what you heard in the last week or two, what made any of you think he was a "headcase"?

I think it's odd our backup quarterbacks are making more money than our starter. What the? Time to admit he's our backup now. We're looking silly all over the place.

I like the aggressive move to attempt to save our season.

Exactly. Cassel was never officially named the starter. He had one good game against the Steelers and most people thought he would automatically be starting from then on. I thought he would be starting to atleast Ponder got better. But this Freeman move would be a waste of a signing if he didn't start.

Frazier and Spielman were smart not to announce any QB changes before this move. Imagine what this would have been like if he named Cassel the starter before getting Freeman. A mess right? If Cassel was the permanent starter, we would have not gotten Freeman. Obviously the Vikings have no intentions on promoting Cassel and want him to be an insurance policy.

This is somewhat smart because if Freeman goes down we can go back to Cassel.

P Manning couldn't save this season because no matter who the q/b is, our defense will continue to suck

You're serious? Manning had to put up 51 points to win today. Did he cry about his defense? You shouldn't either. This is a quarterback-driven league for a reason. Our offense had chances to seal the deal and failed--just as the D did. Just because our D was the last on the field with a real chance to do anything, doesn't mean they are more to blame. They never should have been in that position in the first place, especially not a second or third week in a row. A good quarterback will not only improve the offense, but the defense too. Hopefully we'll get to see that sooner rather than later.

Don't worry man. If it really doesn't work out, it's just a one year deal. It's essentially a "prove it" contract for Freeman.
