That way you could type in a word or phrase (for example "Ponder") and any posts in any threads containing that word won't be seen. And perhaps an option to filter out the posts of users you choose as well.
Filtering out based on the body of a post isn't possible to my knowledge.

However, you can certainly ignore posts from any user by adding them to your "ignore" list.

I agree with this post. And with this being a sports forum, opinions will be all over the place. "To each it's own," is what I think whenever anyone has an opinion. Many threads get "Hijacked" because people argue when their opinions are different from others. I dont mind someone giving their point of view on my post but when people try to tell you your opinion is wrong, I will just defend my post even more. But like you said, eventually the topic will get back to normal.

Not my site, I just come here to talk about football, especially the Vikings.

I will just have to think about this a little bit.

Every post past the OP should have been a new derail.

I could start a thread about maple syrup and within three posts someone would bring up how Christian Ponder once ate maple syrup on his pancakes and how, therefore, he is not the answer for the Vikings future. It is annoying to start a thread only to have it go down the same path that every other thread on the board does.
I'm not saying that the mods need to be more strict, just that I can totally agree with, and I understand where jackal is coming from.
Ponder eats pancakes? I wonder if he uses real Maple syrup as opposed to the fake kind. Maybe if he used real MN maple syrup he would throw downfield better.

Wait, did I just hijack the thread on hijacking threads? :D

Hijacking threads can be annoying. You have three choices, ignore the hijackers, or try to bring the tread back to the original topic, or just dismiss the thread. I'll try the first two if it's a good thread. If not, I'll just ignore it for a few days and it will either die out, or come back around.

I do understand your frustration and hope you didn't take offense to my joke. It can at times be a little annoying when the topic strays back to something like Ponder, which does seem to creep into multiple topics. However, as a mod, I'm here to enforce the rules of the board so unless someone breaks those rules, my hands are tied. If you feel someone has overstepped their bounds, go ahead and report the post and one of us will look into it but also remember the sheer number of posters here and the limited resources we have at our disposal. Plus, we don't want to get to a point where we're censoring people's opinion.

Given that this is the offseason, I think you're going to see a lot more of this because there simply isn't a whole lot to talk about right now. I don't really see it as a degradation of the forum. Also, if you notice someone doing it more than you care for, you also have the foe option at your disposal.

Having been on a discussion board where posts became more and more censored (i.e. if posters had different opinions even with factual backup), I think putting more on the moderators is not the answer. Threadjacking is nothing new and will happen no matter where you post. Just ignore them and get back on track.

The last thing we need is for legitimate discussions, opinions and posts to be fine-tooth-combed to see if maybe a threadjack has occurred. If a specific poster consistently messes around with threads, then notifiy the admins, it may be a troll they need to deal with. Otherwise just move along folks, nothing to see here...........

Out of ALL the message boards I have been on, this was has been so far the most clean. A lot of mix opinions on this board and often the thread will go off-topic but I haven't seen anything so offensive that the mods had to take action. Back on the WeAreVikingsFans. com and the Vikings.com boards, the threads were ruined due to personal attacks, cyber stalking, spam, and just down right offensive comments. Anytime someone wasn't fond of your post they would insult you everytime you made a post no matter what the topic.

This forum seems to be more mature than most boards. Things get off-topic but eventually it'll get back to the original discussion.

Yeah, I would have to agree that this is a fairly mature board with mostly intelligent, mature posters.

I did have to smile about the rest of what you had to say. Just because you were guilty of some of that. I was often involved, as well. Either way, I wouldn't change it. WAVF is actually why I made some really good Vikings friends. I miss it a lot. Too bad the Vikings are cheap and didn't want to keep it running because of "Facebook". Pretty lame on their part if you ask me.

All the organizations who had message boards on their official websites are shutting them down because of twitter and facebook. And Im not to fond of the Vikings fans on Facebook because they are so clueless. I cringe everytime someone on there asks, "So who's gonna start? Ponder or Cassel?" And a lot of them still think Joe Webb is the answer at QB...lol

Not to mention all the profanity and other offensive material on there.
