Yes, shame on Mike Priefer for saying:

"I don't even want to talk about that," Priefer said Thursday. "Those distractions are getting old for me, to be quite honest with you. Do I think Ray Guy deserves to be in the Hall of Fame? Absolutely. But there's other ways of going about doing it, in my opinion."
What a terrible stance to take.
Dan, I agree that Ray Guy deserves to be in the Hall of Fame but Priefer was probably just tired of taking questions about Kluwe that had nothing to do with the Vikings. It's hardly shameful for a coach to express a moment of irritation. That's just human.

Just look at the stats that Pro-Football Reference has for leaders in punts. Longest punt, most punts, Punting yards, punts blocked, yards per punt. Nothing about inside the 20. The only two the punter has any control over out of those 5, Yards per punt and longest punt. And that depends on were the team is when he has to punt. Punters aren't important until they have to drop it inside the 20 with less than 2 minutes on the clock. Hence the apathy from fans and HOF voters.
Since you wrote that punters can make or break the game, I'm not sure if the sentence I highlighted in bold above reflects your personal view or if you're just saying that's how many people perceive punters but either way, it's far from an accurate statement. For example, punters can flip field position, which can make a huge difference in the game. They can neutralize a great returner or even make a big play on a fake once in awhile. They can and do make a difference throughout the game, not just when they have to drop it inside the 20 with less than 2 minutes on the clock.
