Well he did do it at the college level for 7 games. Of course we all know that what you do at the college level sometimes does not transfer the pros. But he is big, 6-3 220 pounds and fast. We know he can jump. Pretty sure with his size he can fight for the ball. Can he catch? I look at it this way, he can't be any worse than Troy "stone hands" Williamson was. At least they didn't burn a first round pick on him.

New to this site as I was on CBS sportsline for 7 years until they just shut down the message board. Alot of good people were over there!!
Webb being 6'2", 220 lbs and having a 4.4 speed and 42.5" Vertical jump is just what the Vikes need if they want another WR. With these attributes and being very elusive, one would think the Vikes would give him a chance since that's what he was drafted for.
Problem is just because he can throw a 60-70 yard pass doesn't make him a NFL QB. the word on him is that he also has stone hands which is not good for a WR.
Based on his low salary and good physical attribtes the Vikes should take a SERIOUS look at him since we need all the help we can get at WR. If we work with him on his pass catching, route running and mental aspect of being a NFL WR, just maybe he will turn out to be really good.
Don't have much to lose at this stage of the game!!

It's not that he can't throw a 60-70 yard pass...he can hardly toss a 6-7 yard pass

he will get a chance to play wr whether its with the Vikings or another team. he would be a nice big target for ponder imo. he should be able to fit in well. he knows the nfl and how to run routes. better than picking a wr in 3rd or 4th round.

Joe Webb - QB - Vikings
Joe Webb has been catching passes in preparation for a switch to receiver.
The Vikings haven't notified Webb of a possible position switch, but it's looking likely that he'll be asked to make the transition back to receiver in 2013. "I'm doing a lot more work at it so I can work on my craft at receiver since I haven't been there since, what, 2010 when I first got drafted?," asked Webb rhetorically. "I'm comfortable. Whatever they ask me to do, I'm going to do it." Webb has one year left on his contract, and his best chance to make the team will be at receiver.

Give people the snaps and practice work that have a future with the team. Don't waste them on him.

With so many bodies in camp, I don't see how it could hurt giving him a chance. Since they have until the beginning of the year to cut him, they have him under contract, what difference is it really going to make? What would suck is if they cut him and he's picked up by some other team and catches 70 balls a year for the next 8 years.

We have Greg Jennings, Cordarelle Patterson, Jerome Simpson, Jarius Wright, Stephon Burton. We have enough WRs and we already have a couple who are still trying to prove themselves. PLus we have four more WRs drafted out of college who are trying to make the team. I honestly think there is no room for Webb on this team. Him getting a shot at WR will only hurt one of the younger kids who are trying to prove themselves. I like Webb but it's time for him to go.

I pretty much agree but I'm not so sure that Webb couldn't beat out Burton, who seems to be more of a blocker than a receiver. And I'm not sure Webb couldn't block better too.

With a much more competitive roster this year, I could see Webb making the team as a reserve WR/QB. Last night I tried to put together an initial guess on the 52 man roster, and there appears to be a lot of spots that will be tightly contested, having a player with Webb who can be a 5th or 6th WR could open spots in other places, cause he serve as the 3rd QB as well. I have been one who's been vocal about Webb not likely making the team, but the more I think about it, his versatility and the competition on many spots of our roster, he could find a spot.
