KAM's moves continue to confound. This signing is another example of that. I doubt the market for Jones would have been more than $5 million per year. Kwesi signed him for $6.5 million per year effectively, which, as you point out, could have been mitigated last offseason with a longer-term, more front-loaded deal.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Sun Mar 09, 2025 5:32 pm Jones back on a 2 year deal worth 20 million, with 13 million guaranteed.
Insane money to spend on a RB who will be 31 by the end of the year, and just more evidence that Kwesi has no idea what he is doing. Due to his complete lack of foresight at RB, he had nothing at RB, and overpaid an aging one to keep him in house. Why give Jones a 1 year deal last year if you know you have nothing in 2025 and don't plan on drafting a RB in 2024? Pure incompetence.

Re: Offseason Thread
My guess is that it has more to do with his value in the passing game than purely as a runner. He was top ten in receiving yards as well as top ten in rushing yards.VikingLord wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 12:53 pmThat's a lot of cap for an aging RB no matter how great he is as a teammate. I felt like Jones ability to remain productive dropped off substantially as the year went on, but he's also not a runner who is great at shedding contact or has any burst to get to the second level. In short, he needs effective blocking in front of him.
$13 million of that $20 is guaranteed, so it's not a terrible deal from the Vikings' perspective, but I'd have preferred it to be $10 million with a 2nd year option.
His age is definitely a concern. It'd be nice to see another RB come in other than Akers and Chandler.
Re: Offseason Thread
Isaiah Rodgers is headed to the NFC North.
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Rodgers has agreed to a two-year contract with the Vikings.
Schefter notes the deal is worth $15 million with $8 million fully guaranteed.

I almost lost my mind for a moment. I thought it said Aaron Rodgers.
Whew! I was afraid I was going to have to drop my allegiance.

Go ahead. I dare you.

Cam Bynum is gone. Goes to the Colts, 4 years, $60 million.
Saw that one coming when the Vikings extended Theo Jackson.

Tied for 8th highest paid safety in the league. Considering their needs I think I would have paid it.J. Kapp 11 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 4:16 pm Cam Bynum is gone. Goes to the Colts, 4 years, $60 million.

That's actually less than I thought he'd get. I was pretty sure he'd get $20 million a year guaranteed, although the total contract value is about right.
I wish Darnold only the best, but letting him leave was the right move.

I'm a little surprised just given the sheer amount of turnover that is happening in the defensive secondary. Bynum was a steady, if unspectacular, presence there.J. Kapp 11 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 4:16 pm Cam Bynum is gone. Goes to the Colts, 4 years, $60 million.

I wonder if KAM is targeting one of the two highly rated safety prospects in this year's upcoming draft at #24 - Nick Emmanwori and Malaki Starks. Starks is more a free safety prospect while Emmanwori is a guy who can drop down. Emmanwori is built like a linebacker - he's physically imposing and highly athletic, while Starks shows exceptional awareness and anticipation in coverage and is a natural on-field leader. Either would be a notable upgrade at safety and both are capable of becoming pro-bowl level players early in their careers. Neither player is guaranteed to be on the board at #24, but I'd put the odds of at least one of them being available there at 70-80% just given how the talent is shaping up early in this year's draft.
Even though I still would prefer KAM to address the interior offensive line with the first pick, on a pure talent and potential impact basis I'd be happy with either of those 2 safeties at 24.

The Minnesota Vikings are expected to sign four-time Pro Bowl center Ryan Kelly to a two-year, $18 million deal, NFL Network reports.
I like it, cya Garret. And chance we still land Will Fries?

Does either of them at guard make more sense? I don't know much about Kelly. He was ranked #11 overall C last season on pff.
Don't think Bradbury could play guard. Seems like he'd constantly be going backwards. Can admit likely biased.
Bradbury did grade higher than Kelly at run blocking though.

Re: Offseason Thread
We resigned Byron Murphy on a 3 year, 66 million deal tonight. He is now the third highest paid corner behind Jalen Ramsey and Patrick Surtain .
Re: Offseason Thread
Jonathan Allen signed for 3 yr/60m. Haven't seen guaranteed $ yet. Want to see the structure of his and Murphys deals. Come on Twitter. Ha.
Glad we adressed some needs. Sure would like a serviceable guard. They are drying up fast.

Signings so far:
Byron Murphy Jr., CB
Isaiah Rodgers, CB
Theo Jackson, S
Bubba Bolden, S (depth signing)
Jonathan Allen, DT
Aaron Jones, RB
Ryan Kelly, C
Ryan Wright, P
They've more or less spent their free agency cash at this point as far as the more highly paid players go. They definitely addressed their areas of need though.
