Everyone seen it coming but he made the play. Nobody will mention that one. Not saying Kirk is any good but that's a play no analyst will even bring up. And yes he still needs to pack his bags. One game or play changes nothing. Next week will be a tough one. Wilson couldn't get a point on the board. Complete bum. It will be tough for Kirk.
The Packers defense has really impressed against Seattle and KC. They might be better than a lot of people think. One of their big tackles suffered an injury last game though so it would be nice to run the ball.
The Packers are playing great defense in today's game. When you shut out a team with a future HOF QB your getting after it. We'll see what Zim and Kubesteak come up with for this. It better be max protect with Ham in the backfield picking up guys that charge the QB with free runs. No sense sending him out on a 1 yard route. Better off knelling on the ball because there is very little risk. It will come down to what it always does. Controlling the LOS. Our 5 will need help.

I think he's a pretty good playcaller and clearly he's doing well with Mac which speaks volumes. He also made Tebow look like an NFL QB. I wouldn't give him power over the draft though. He did take Demarious Thomas so it wasn't all bad.
If McDaniels is Vikings head coach and he destroys the Vikings like he did with the Broncos, you are going to be wishing that he never came here
Absolutely NOOOO to McDaniels... There was another thread and some hot names came up. Joe Brady and Byron Leftwich are my 2 favorites right now with Joe Lombardi a distant 3rd. McDaniels is a very good OC, but not a HC ! Not all coordinators are good HC. Seen it way too many times. Need to be wired differently to be a successful HC.

Agree on McDaniels. He was a disaster in Denver.

No on Brady, I would like to see an OC coach a good offense before giving him a shot at HC.

Leftwich would be an interesting option though.

Someone, probably the owners, must have yelled at Zimmer to let the offense throw the ball. Cousins had another great game with 2 TDs, about 300 yards, and no picks behind a weak Viking offensive line, amazing effort. With a crappy OL is important to chuck and duck limiting deep strikes but Cousins used the fading protection he had to make completion after completion and will the Vikings to victory.

Cousins is great and the Vikings have a number of good skill players. I can't wait to see what a real HC & OC can do if they rebuild the OL and let Cousins cook next year. I know this board is cluttered with Kirk bashers. I find their posts uninformed and ridiculous for the most part. Clearly Cousins is the best Viking QB since the Carter administration. Many posters here were not even born then so Cousins is the best Viking QB in your lifetime. Without a good frame of reference to compare him to no wonder so many of you are so confused. Thankfully, stoic Cousins keeps turning in Pro Bowl level performances even if fans here are not even practice squad material, you know who you are.

So Cousins is better than Brett Favre was in 2009?

Or Randall Cunningham was in 1998?

Or even Dante Culpepper in 2001?

As a general observation, insulting fans who disagree with you as you are doing here is not good form. At best it will make others suspect you are a troll. At worst, it will get you outright banned.

The amazing effort is you trying to find a way to blame an Oline that is giving up the fewest sacks in the NFL for the QB's lack of success this season.

It was a nice win and one that didn't surprise me. I actually took the Vikings as part of my 4-team parlay win this week, so thank you Minnesota for finally putting cash INTO my pocket for once. And the reasoning is, this isn't a bad team so they're going to beat a good opponent here and there. They've played almost every team tough this year, it's just little nuances that bog the team down.

All that being said, they still need to clean house. None of these old dogs are going to learn new tricks. Zimmer is a defensive guy that is always going to be hands off with the offense and that simply doesn't work at the HC level. And as nice as it was that he told Cousins to take more risks, because we've seen the tape where Cousins really won't take chances when plays are there, Cousins isn't suddenly going to turn into a gun-slinging Brett Favre. Eventually both will revert back to the mean and coach and play in their same conservative selves. This is fine if the goal is a .500 team +/- a game or two depending on the season. This isn't a good strategy for winning championships.

Did anyone watch Andy Reid against the Raiders? He absolutely crushed their throats. That wasn't a win, it was a statement. Dude was calling fake punts with the lead and still throwing the ball when they easily could have gone into turtle mode. Now obviously being very aggressive can also shoot you in the foot but I'd much rather watch a team go down swinging than a team that takes a lead in the first quarter and then proceeds to try and milk the clock for a good portion of the rest of the game.

And then there's Rick Spielman. Bradbury (1st round) is a bust. As was Elflein (3rd round), Samia (4th round), Clemmings (4th round), and Beavers (4th round). Cleveland (2nd round) so far is looking like a poor choice. He's not terrible but for a 2nd round pick, he's not living up to expectations. That's 6 relatively high draft picks that really haven't worked out. And that's just the OL. That doesn't include Cousins' ridiculous extension, his pretty poor free agency pickup record, poor CB draft choices, etc. Look at Tomlinson and Pierce. They were supposed to be a huge boost to our line but Tomlinson hasn't done anything all year and Pierce can't stay on the field (health was a major concern/factor as to why he was let go by the Ravens). He's an average GM. They're all average, which equates to average performance over a long-term outlook.

This has been the problem over the years with this team. They give you a pinch of hope because the roster top to bottom isn't all that bad. But when you look at it from a macro perspective, there are too many issues that I don't think can be repaired with the current leadership. This game or the rest of this season won't change any of that, I just really hope Zygi finally sees it.

Bingo! I believe you’re on to something here.

I’ve been reading a lot about this organization and listening to many hours of podcasts and radio shows featuring people who have some knowledge of what’s going on in the building. (What can I say? I’m retired, and golf season is pretty much over … I have nothing but time on my hands!) Here’s what folks are saying about the Wilfs.

1. They’re great owners.
They love the game and love the team. They’re big fans. Yet they understand that their expertise is NOT in football, so they hire football people to run the organization, which is exactly what you want. They’ve done what to takes to give the Vikings the very best facilities in the NFL. And unlike Red McCombs, they have put no salary cap on the coaching and scouting staff.

2. They’re easily manipulated.
Smart business people surround themselves with talent. Unfortunately, many believe they’re being bamboozled by the very person in which they’ve placed their trust … that Rick annually convinces them that the Vikings are contenders. And Rick is succeeding precisely BECAUSE their knowledge of football is limited.

3. As a result, nothing is likely to happen with Spielman.
Because of that gullibility, they won’t understand when it’s time to move on from Spielman. So they won’t.

Only the Wilfs know the truth, but the evidence seems to point toward this theory. If it walks like a duck ...

I don't think the Wilf's are easily manipulated. If that was the case they would be broke in their world. We are number 2 in attendance in the NFL based on percentage of stadium capacity. We go over the capacity. I'm sure the Wilf family are happy with that. That means the product is good. Speilman is in tight with the Wilf family because of that. IMO he seems to operate in a scramble mode season after season. But isn't that every NFL team? Zimmer has a 560 win percentage as a head coach. Pete Carrol is at 591. Of course Carrol has been to the Super Bowl a couple times a long time ago. He was in the playoffs last year. It won't happen this year. They can't compete with the top teams. The Green Bay HC is 783 which is the best. Having a HOF QB helps big time. We are a contending team for the playoffs. We were contending last year right up to the end after a 1-5 start. I was hoping for the 1st pick and Trevor Lawerance. Many others were in the same boat. I will give Zimmer credit with the fact that his team hasn't folded up the tent. They are still playing hard. They always play hard for him. We lack talent right now from top to bottom. Our record reflects that. We are struggling to get at the 500 mark. Yes we have some good players. Cook and Jefferson are both good players. They are exciting and Theilen is a good player. But our OL sucks which will be our downfall against the better teams. You need to win the LOS battle to have a chance against the top teams. We lack the talent to do that which puts our skill players at a disadvantage. We are in a must win this week. That means Zim will get conservative. He will try and eat the clock and keep Rodgers off the field.

I think Spielman can only do so much before the results speak louder than anything he says, especially given the liberal investments the Wilfs and the state of Minnesota have made in the team.

I continue to believe this is a make-or-break year for Cousins, Zimmer and Spielman. All three are tied to each other, so if one goes, the other two go as well. The only way that might not happen is if one of them cuts that tie with something crazy, like Zimmer gets arrested for dealing meth, but beyond that, those are the Three Musketeers for now. One for all and all for one.

Should be a sense of desperation on the part of all of them. Hopefully all three realize that far from being secure in their jobs, they literally have nothing to lose at this point. Hopefully that helps all three loosen up here and do what has to be done to push this team over the top.

Thanks for the laugh with the dealing meth arrest. A good laugh never hurts.

I think you’re dead wrong.

The Wilf family earned their fortune in commercial real estate, which has absolutely nothing to do with running a football team. In fact, buying a football team is as much a hobby for these guys as it is anything else. None of them have any background in football. Therefore, they really have little idea about personnel, which is key to success in the NFL or at any level. The team with the best players will always compete.

That means they have to trust their general manager because they don’t have the knowledge themselves. I say they’re easily manipulated because Rick Spielman has convinced them year after year that they’re contenders. They LIKE Spielman so much that they listen to him.

Now, where their experience DOES give the Vikings an advantage is in facilities. The Wilfs know how to build things, and that expertise was key to keeping the Vikings in Minneapolis. In that regard they’re great owners.

With that in mind, if the Vikings WERE to fire Spielman and Zimmer, they could really get a great GM and coach. Think about it. You’ve got the best facilities in the league, bar none. If you’ve never been to the TCO Performance Center, do yourself a favor and take a tour. It’s absolutely amazing. The medical facility is a full-fledged medical center. Their technology is top-flight. The training facilities, the practice fields, everything, first-rate. And the Wilfs are happy to pay top dollar for staff. It would be a highly desirable destination for potential GMs and coaches — IF ONLY WE COULD GET RID OF SPIELMAN AND ZIMMER.

I’m with VL. Cousins, Zimmer and Spielman have the noose around their neck. Only a Clint Eastwood as Blondie kind of moment is going to save them (The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly reference … look it up). At least, I hope that’s how it is.

I realize that this is a side deal for the Wilf's. I also realize that they didn't get into a side deal to loss money or to make a fortune. I'm sure the stadium is top shelf. If I ever get to minny again I will visit. But the Wilf's are football fans. They are long time Giant fans. You are a long time Viking fan. That will always hold true. And yes Speilman needs to convince them every year. No different than a corporation CEO needs to convince the board that they will be profitable ect... every year. But I also think they have some loyalty to Speilman. For what I don't know. They need someone to run the football operation. Speilman is the expert they hired. Certainly Zygi has no interest in the day to day football operation. He has better more important things to do. His level is different. But the Wilf's are giving it their best shot at winning a Super Bowl and sure they would like that win. Bragging rights. That's the only thing a fan can expect. I hope they do make a change. The worst that can happen is we only win a couple games. Maybe the stadium would still sell out plus even if we sucked. And yes Cousins was a bad signing. Look at our roster. Who is the super star sitting there waiting. I see three bums that have zero chance. Maybe you see something different. Bottom line I hope they can the entire crew.

I think we may have a misunderstanding here.

I’m not making a case to keep Zimmer and Spielman. Far from it. Read any post I’ve made in the past six weeks. I want them gone. I’ve been very clear about that.

What I’m doing is pointing out the blind spot the Wilfs have when it comes to our GM and coach. I’m saying that’s why they haven’t been fired already … and if they’re not fired after this season, that blind spot will likely be why.

Go ahead. I dare you.

I took the post off track. I know how you feel about our GM and HC combo. At the end of the day we are all projecting our thoughts on why the Wilf's don't make a move to shake things up. We are stuck in the same position as we were years ago. Most if not all are getting sick of it. This fighting to reach 500 at this point in the season with an old team isn't a pretty spot.
