Big signing for Minnesota, a good depth piece and possible starter for the Vikings

His coverage numbers are surprisingly really good for a guy who has lasted this long in free agency.
Breeland only gave up 343 yards in 11 starts last year. For context, Dantzlers, our best cover corner, gave up 498 in 11 games.

Even more impressive is that amount of points KC put up, meant that the opposing offense was often passing more. That skews the number even more.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 5:12 pm His coverage numbers are surprisingly really good for a guy who has lasted this long in free agency.

I've heard he gets a lot of penalties which wouldn't factor in the stats.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 5:12 pm His coverage numbers are surprisingly really good for a guy who has lasted this long in free agency.

Many teams struggling with the lower cap this year. I believe in a normal year Breeland would have already been signed. Like many he is accepting a one year deal looking ahead to teams having more room under the cap.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 5:12 pm His coverage numbers are surprisingly really good for a guy who has lasted this long in free agency.

Beyond that, I like this signing. I do not see him starting, but he is a strong veteran who will see his share of playing time. This is very important depth. I have always felt there is no such thing as too many DBs.

Re: Vikings Sign CB Bashaud Breeland
I’d heard about a week ago that Breeland’s people and the Vikings were talking.
This is a quality pickup, a guy with 88 starts under his belt, plus 14 interceptions, two pick-sixes and a 100-yard fumble return TD. Not to mention a ring with the Chiefs.
Don’t look now, but the Vikings have gone from a 3-ring circus at CB to a very deep team at the position.

Go ahead. I dare you.
Underestimate this man.

Plus the addition of Tye Smith and it looks like the Vikings could very well have a top 5 defense this year.J. Kapp 11 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 9:10 pm I’d heard about a week ago that Breeland’s people and the Vikings were talking.

Kind of crazy how quickly things have changed this offseason on the defensive side of the ball. If Hunter returns healthy and effective, the Vikings defensive line actually looks like it could be very good. With a healthy Barr and Kendricks, the linebackers look good. CB appears it could go from a real liability to a strength, and while the Vikings still might not be set at the second safety position after Smith, that position is not a liability either. The talent is certainly there for a dramatic improvement over what we saw last year.Rhodes Closed wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 9:14 pmPlus the addition of Tye Smith and it looks like the Vikings could very well have a top 5 defense this year.J. For that to matter a few things still have to fall in place and they have to stay healthy, but if the offense remains consistent with what it managed to do last year and we see the defense move up into the top 10 in the league, this team should be a legit contender in the NFC.

I give them credit for charging full speed ahead and trying to fix the D. I think the biggest piece is Hunter. He's our best D player. Plus he does the thing that makes a secondary better and that's rush the passer. Hunter needs to be here at all cost.VikingLord wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 12:00 amKind of crazy how quickly things have changed this offseason on the defensive side of the ball. There's never an at all cost, no matter what need. If the only way Hunter will play for us is if we give him $50 million a year than we don't cave in to the no matter what. We should do what is within reason. Assuming Hunter is ready to return to his first team All Pro form you tear up his old contract and make a new one within reason. However, the big problem is none of us know if he is ready to return to his All Pro Form. Say we rewrite his contract guaranteed $25M a year for the next five years and find out he can no longer play. Where does that leave us. It is a really messed up situation.CharVike wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 6:11 pmI give them credit for charging full speed ahead and trying to fix the D. I think the biggest piece is Hunter. QBs are an at all cost deal and the same for challenging for the Super Bowl. Hunter's a drama queen. Just tell him he's under contract and to show up. But I agree he needs to prove himself first before writing a new deal.VikingsVictorious wrote: ↑Mon Jun 07, 2021 11:11 amThere's never an at all cost, no matter what need. He sucked in Washington, went elsewhere and wasn't bad. That happens a lot.S197 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 6:27 pmI've heard he gets a lot of penalties which wouldn't factor in the stats.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Fri Jun 04, 2021 5:12 pm His coverage numbers are surprisingly really good for a guy who has lasted this long in free agency.
