I had a two level neck fusion with donor bone and titanium brace and screws and did a lot of research on neck injuries and treatment while going through it in 2001. There are a bunch of potential treatments depending on severity. There are less invasive procedures than a fusion like I had. Manning by the way had a one level fusion. The extent of the injury and type of procedure done would answer some of these questions about his career going forward but they’re not saying anything. A neck problem isn’t necessarily going to end a career but it would be easier to speculate if we knew. For example, there are less invasive treatments where they use micro surgery on the damaged disc. The silence on the injury and surgery only opens things up to more speculation.
Thanks for the info, I hope your procedures have helped you get back and comfortable.
When discs are removed in a fusion the ones above and below the fusion compensate for the missing discs. Obviously a one level will have that affect so a two level like mine increases the load on remaining discs. Since the surgery in 2001 I am as active as I need to be but avoid certain things like 4 wheelers and snowmobiles that bounce around and go over bumps. It did end my ability to pursue a career in the NFL but not as much as my age (69) and the fact that I am only 5’6” and an NFL career is the least likely thing I would ever do.

But on a more serious not in regard to Hunter. If his surgery required removing a disc then yes, I would be more concerned. If they did some kind of micro surgery to repair the disc then and it is successful I wouldn’t be as concerned.

I can do most anything I need to do except hold a pair of pants under my chin while putting them on a hanger or drinking that last half inch of beer in the bottom of the can. I lost some range of motion due to not having the flexibility of the two discs that were removed it seldom causes any discomfort.

In response to that getting that last half inch of brew outta the can. Thank goodness that's when you forsake the old physical ability that has betrayed you, and you compensate with Veteran savvy and intelligence gained from experience. Brains over braun. It's what keeps us old guys in the game.

They can use the extra money to extend O’Neill and to make sure The Hitman retires a Viking

I love Hunter but with the injury concerns and the discontent- move on
I do not want Everson back next year, let the young players play
Agree. That ship has sailed. I'd be happy if they extend Hunter with incentives for play time and production. If they trade him they better get a Mack deal.

I think that there is a lot more to it.
Why bring back Weatherly and draft Patrick Jones and Janarius Robinson? That is 3 DE's. Ironically all 3 are the same size as Hunter. Plus... they drafted DJ Wonnom, who is also the same size, last year and Willekes from MSU.
If Hunter is unable to play, we still have those 5 guys that are young with upside, and we have Hercules ! Plug in those massive DTs and I think we are still OK.
I hope that Hunter is OK and continues to produce as a Viking, even more importantly the rest of his life !!

I though, have no problem moving on from players when they pull the "ME card instead of the "WE" !!! Did he out play his contract? He got a top tier deal before being a top tier player. Now, he has a injury that we have absolutely no idea if he will be the same player. If anything, right now he should be thankful for the contract he has and that the Vikings are still paying him with so much uncertainty. If he has another Hunter type season, then absolutely go to your agent and try to get another big deal.
BUT.... he is injured and no one knows what he is capable of doing, if anything !
If we lose him.... that sucks, but I like the players added and hope that they produce

You hit the nail on the head. Hunter is a great player. I understand the fact that every player needs to make as much as they can. But his timing is way off. It even limits his trade value. Who would give up what he is worth at this point? Nobody. To much risk.

The only way that Hunter will get a Mack deal if Hunter's neck is good and is the same player as he once was

That requires him coming to camp and proving it.

This is crazy, Danielle needs to show up to training camp and fulfill his current contract. He got paid last year and gave the team zero. Hate to lose him, but making him the highest paid defensive player or anything near that is nuts. He could last five plays, or five games, of five more years. Let someone else take a big gamble on that.
