Side note: Spielman just said in his presser he plans on moving up into round 2
Most ratings I saw had Darrisaw better than Vera Tucker.

I agree. Would have been nice to get a 2nd, but #66 puts them in prime position to move up into the late 2nd if they want.
Hell they can move up more than just the late 2nd with the ammo they have. They have 7 picks in two rounds.

Side note, I’d bet that Trask is one of our picks. Possibly the 2nd rounder or the 3rd if he falls. Fits this scheme perfectly and I’ve been pushing for him for a month now. Super underrated if you ask me

I'm happy with the Darrisaw pick. I thought Darrisaw merited #14, so to move back and still get him at #23 is fantastic.

Yeah most were. So it’s hard to hate that trade at all. The Vikings can get a 2nd round pick if they want. Just because it wasn’t in that trade doesn’t mean squat. Hell the Vikings could get 2 seconds if they really wanted to

I agree. Trask is going to be an excellent pro, especially if he's not immediately thrust into a starting role.

You can get guys anywhere. But passing up a stud for good value is a bad deal. But you need to look at who you passed up. I wanted Jones and if he's a bum for Bill B then good move. If he's off the charts it's one of the worst draft moves ever. I have a little more faith in Bill B.
Why?

He drafted Brady in the 6th, and nobody drafted Brady before that round.

If you ask me, he got very lucky and rode the back of that good fortune to mythic status.

Mac Jones might be good in the pros. He might not be all that good. I think if the Vikings want a developmental QB prospect in this year's draft they are in prime position to get one, and largely because of this trade. I will be shocked if one of Davis Mills, Kyle Trask or Kellen Mond is not a Viking by the end of tomorrow. In my opinion any one of those guys can become an excellent pro QB, especially given that none of them have to step immediately into the franchise savior mode.
I liked Jones and was surprised he was there that's all. QB is a hard position to pick. Goff and Wentz are no longer with the teams that picked them and they were very high. Basically busts. I liked Lock when he came out. Looks like another bust. Jones will probably be a bust also. That would be an easy call on all these 1st round guys. If half become top flight starters it would be a shock. I like Mills but there is something wrong with him and I don't know what it is. But Speilman filled a position of need and some posters called the pick which is an excellent call. Hopefully he's with us for 10 years and becomes a very good player. We needed a LT badly and a good one was there. I can't fault the pick. I always said Bill B was lucky with Brady. If he had any idea he was to be the goat he would have jumped on him round 1 and looked like the greatest evaluator ever. There isn't an expert that really thinks that much of Jones. Nobody is calling great pick. At this point it means nothing to me outside of the fact that I was hoping he would be the pick. I'm sure many others wanted a guy that wasn't picked also. That's the draft.

Darrisaw was as good a pick as you can get for that spot with that position. They traded down, took a calculated risk, and it paid dividends. Now they have capital to trade up into the 2nd round, possibly twice if they wish it.

The big thing is they got a good player that fits need while also adding draft capital. They know have seven picks in the 3rd and fourth round. Will they trade up for a 2nd round pick? I know Spielman indicated they could, they have some draft capital to work with. At the same time, depending on how that 2nd round plays out an argument could be made for standing pat.

I think they can find plenty of good players by staying put in the 3rd. Everyone talks about the draft talent flattening towards the end of the 1st round, but having good depth in several positions. If the Vikings really believe that, then there is no reason to become overly enamored of a player unless they want to target a day 2 QB.

Regardless, will be an interesting evening.

I have a feeling that Slater will fall to #14 and Vikings will run to the podium and select Slater
You missed it by one pick.
Yup, I was very close to being right!

I'll bite. How do you know?🙂
Two High School teammates are scouts. One for Colts and one currently unemployed due to firings last season. Another teammate has been defensive coach for Lions and Eagles. Makes me wish I didn't give up coaching dream for a stable paycheck
That's really awesome! I can't imagine the amount of hours they have to put into scouting.

No regrets man! Move forward, live your best life with the decisions you made.

Nothing saying you couldn't do some coaching at some level. Heck if you like coaching and have a talent for it then make time for it. Coaching a high school team can be frustrating/thankless, but you can have real impacts on some kids life outside of football. I can't say enough about good high school coaches... I guess I should clarify what I mean by good... Not necessarily ones with the best records, but ones who really make good impacts on our children's lives.

I would love to be able to get OG Wyatt Davis or Trey Smith ! That would pretty much make the draft a success with Darrisaw !
I also hope to be able to land Rondale Moore. Elijah Moore and Terrace Marshall are there also right now. Either of them would be awesome to add. There is quality depth at the WR position. I just see a talent like one of those guys being a major difference maker to this team. Not that it is a necessity, but wow that could be special.
There are a lot of good players available in the next 50 picks.
I know I am all over the place, but tonight has the potential to really add to this team !!!

Unfortunately my schedule doesn't allow me to do so. However, it's really amazing to see kids grow into men. My friends are amazing at what they do and we still talk footba to this day. The lions guy didn't like Kyle Sloter. Said he was a Jag.
