That restructure makes a trade very possible. Almost likely. We won't get much for him probably, but some team can certainly use him.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2020 11:24 am He current sits at 20th in cap hit per year among LTs, is essentially free this year for any team that trades for him, and will only cost 11 million next year (very average for a LT) if the team who trades for him wants to keep him, otherwise he can be cut with no dead cap.
If he were getting paid like a top 10 LT, I agree, no GM would trade for him, but that restructure he took makes him very tradeable. I am curious what starting LTs go for in the middle of the season? Tunsil was traded at the beginning of the season last year for a lot, but what about what is essentially a 1/2 year rental with a cheap option on a 2nd year LT?

And the fudge packers are coming up next. I might skip watching that game to get a wide awake colonoscopy.

I agree. This is a business. He probably made it very clear he wouldn't be signing with the Vikes. He's a Maryland guy and probably always wanted to go to the Ravens. Get what you can get now opposed to getting nothing this spring.
i'm ready for a beer.

This doesn't seem ridiculous to me.
The 2nd rounder was gone regardless at this point and having him on the team is basically worthless. It was a 1 year contract meaning at the end of the year the Vikings get nothing. They're getting a 3rd instead of nothing. Or am I missing something?

This season and trade sum up the 2020 calendar year perfectly.... I live in the NYC metro area and my friends continually asked me if I was ok with all those rookies and unproven CB.....I'm like we have Zimmer. LOL

Dang it! Now I need to clean coffee off my keyboard!J. Kapp 11 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2020 12:11 pm Guys, we should be STOKED about this trade.
Rick can turn a 3rd and a 5th into at least five 7th-rounders!

Re: Vikings in full tank mode - trade Ngakoue
That actually makes sense. Plus it would give us something else to b*****/cheer/lol about on game day when 'Dejo does a heat-seeking missile to someone's head.Texas Vike wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2020 12:10 pmI could see us trading Harris to CLE for Sendejo and a 3rd.Dames wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2020 12:00 pm Now that it's official that Hunter is out for the year, it's a lot more believable that they are in rebuild/tank mode. I mean, I honestly can't see them going full tank mode, but I can see them trying to trade Reiff and Harris as well. Harris might be interesting since we have zero backup safeties, IIRC.

Re: Vikings in full tank mode - trade Ngakoue
I just looked again, and it actually looks like closer to 10 million for 6 games since his signing bonus was 8 million and he only had a 4 million salary (the only thing that gets traded). Not sure why I thought it was a 6 million signing bonus, but imagine what 12 extra million in cap could do in a year where very few teams will have cap to spend on free agents next year?
Re: Vikings in full tank mode - trade Ngakoue
Without context, sure it seems like an OK move to get some assets back for an expiring. But the context is we lost assets (draft capital and money) for 2 months of Yannick. Bringing in Yannick also suggested that Rick/Zim thought we would be competitive this year which is why they thought it was worth the trade and moving on from him now shows they know this season is done. So they were wildly off about their outlook for the 2020 season (unless they blame this garbage season solely on the Barr injury).Cliff wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2020 12:21 pm This doesn't seem ridiculous to me.

Just what I was thinking. Clearly only the first part of a larger strategy to stockpile 6th and 7th round picks, just like he did last spring.J. Kapp 11 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2020 12:11 pm Guys, we should be STOKED about this trade.

Yeah the problem isn't cutting bait now, it's the complete and total lack of foresight. This is the second year in a row that the Ravens have fleeced Rick, lets not forget about Vedvik although this trade is going to be much more damaging.
At bare minimum is was a massive miscalculation by Spielman, that's undeniable. What worries me is by allowing him to continue to make these decisions likely means he's here to stay.
This wasn't a re-load year. It was a re-build year but in usual Vikings fashion, they only did it halfway. And so once again stuck in limbo we are.

I am guessing Mark Wilf, Rick and Zim discussed getting Pierce and Hunter back next season, and if they felt Ngakoue was not coming back then it makes perfect sense to trade him now for whatever you can get. So it cost us what, $3M and moving from a #2 to a #3 to have Ngakoue play about 4.5 games for us. Doesn't look good on anyone's resume.
Agree with the OP, we're clearly tanking now. Why hold onto Zimmer?
Exactly... what idiot made that trade to begin with... makes sense to me,
Fire Spielman

IOW I see a perfectly logical meeting being held where they are discussing this year being a failure and where will we stand next year. Logically, we should be getting two big pieces of the DL back next year. Who knows what Ngakoue said he wanted after the $12M this year? It would follow that if Ngakoue can't help us get wins this year, then let's trade him now. That's the "on the surface" view.
Hidden meanings? Are we tanking? Should we cut bait on everything/everyone not performing on this team? No, I don't think that's what is going on. Getting rid of a DL that might be asking $20M+ in the coming years when we need to eat Cousins money for a few years is a very logical, non-tank thing for a 1-5 team to do, IMO.
I could be wrong.
In doing this Spielman should have never done this to begin with. Idiotic move. Maybe not as stupid as the Hershel trade, The Underwood pick.. but right up there as one of our dumb trades in our history. Imo .
