Yeah I wouldn’t understand the point of a sign and trade? We’d structure the contract the way we’d want it. That might not work for a team that wants to trade for him. I don’t see that happeningRhodes Closed wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 10:15 pmIf they were planning on a sign and trade, they'd just agree with the Franchise Tag and then trade him.

Skins designated Scherff with franchise tag,If Harris is under contract before a trade they don't have to worry about him leaving

Re: Vikings put franchise tag on Harris!!
I'd have to see him do more to be convinced he is a ballhawk, let alone 'elite'. The history of the league is full of guys who had a bunch of picks, one time, and never again. I don't know that Anthony Harris will ever have more value than he has now. He's a fine enough player, but I don't see him as a special player.

I really wish the Vikings would trade Anthony Harris for more picks. I want A.J. Evanescence and Winfield Jr. In the 1st.

"On Anthony Harris... Negotiations [with the #Vikings] didn't go quite so well... I would say a trade is back on the table. He could get moved on draft weekend... I think playing out the season on the franchise tag is off the table."

Let Harris go, he is replaceable, Vikings can replace Harris with Winfield if Winfield is available

And get a lower quality player at the cost of a high draft pick.RandyMoss84 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 06, 2020 3:37 pm Let Harris go, he is replaceable, Vikings can replace Harris with Winfield if Winfield is available
The plus side is it would free up the cap space for another player.

This is disappointing. I was looking forward to extending him or at least having him this season on the franchise tag.halfgiz wrote: ↑Mon Apr 06, 2020 3:35 pm https://twitter.com/SeanBormanNFL/statu ... 81607?s=20

If we were to trade him that would not count against the team that's trading for him's compensatory formula where as if they signed him FA it would right. Seems like that should be some incentive for a team to make a trade. Or a team could wait until the compensatory window closes than they could sign him without penalty. Is that after the draft or when?

Re: Vikings put franchise tag on Harris!!
I think Rick has seriously stepped in it with the way he's handled Harris. I think they stuck the tag on his thinking they'd easily be able to flip him for a 2nd, only to discover that the market wasn't there for giving up a 2nd for Harris. At that point, they should have immediately lifted the franchise tag and let him walk, take the compensatory pick later. Now they have themselves really screwed, and Harris is probably very pissed. He's a 6 million dollar a year S who probably could have got 10 to 12 on the open market, and now is stuck playing on a one year deal that might see his value drastically reduced. I won't be surprised if he simply sits out the year.

Re: Vikings put franchise tag on Harris!!
Looks like recent tweets and reports on Harris were false. Getting closer to a new dealESPN's Josina Anderson reports long-term contract negotiations between the Vikings and S Anthony Harris are in "the realm of what's necessary to finalize."
TwinCities.com reported in March that the two parties were "actively discussing" a long-term contract, and it sounds like progress is now being made. The Vikings placed the franchise tag on him before free agency began, possibly with the intention of trading him to a safety-needy team. With the 2020 NFL Draft just a few days away, it's possible that trade talks pick up again. Harris is expected to command double-digit millions annually.
