There it is.

The Vikings are paying Kirk Cousins no more than they're paying other players, respective to the positions they pay.

Take Xavier Rhodes, a $13.3 million cap hit ... and for what? To give up 4-for-4 for 99 yards and a touchdown? Cousins is paid to handle the ball 75 times a game. Rhodes is paid to stop 4 passes, and he can't even stop ONE. Trae Waynes ... a $9 million cap hit for an average corner. That's $22.3 million for our starting CBs, and we're getting torched routinely. Linval Joseph, Mr. Run Stuffer ... $10.2 million, and we get run all over. Riley Reiff is pulling down $11.7 million for incredibly average LT play, often below average. Where is the weeping and gnashing of teeth over those guys?

Instead, we talk about Cousins and his $28 million, and how a 125 rating over 7 games and a 6-1 record isn't good enough. Or two picks over about 400 throws ... and both of those because of Diggs drops. At least that highly paid player is doing his freaking job.
What rock are you living under? We have a thread dedicated to benching Rhodes. In that thread people talk about cutting Joseph next season.

Reiff, despite being solid in his entire tenure as a Viking, is consistently brought up as someone who the Vikings cut next year to give us cap space.
Piss up a rope.

I'm talking about salaries relative to the position. Stop being a dick long enough to read.

I nominate this for the most preposterous statement of the year award. Yep, Seattle really took it easy on us. Thankfully they stopped trying or we'd really be crying today :) You crack me up Char.
I deserve that award. Nothing to be proud of. Just a dumb thing I posted. I was pumped after that defensive score. That's something I wanted to see. I was hoping we would keep our streak alive. Get on a roll. I know that's too much of an expectation. Maybe next year.

Haha. It's okay man. It's frustrating to lose. I'll wait until the season is over before I start talking about next year. We have at least 4 games left this year, and we're in the playoffs currently. Hopefully we can figure out something on defense over the next 4 weeks.... and get on a roll in the playoffs. That's when it matters.

Solid, mature response. Clearly I am the one being the dick here.

One of the biggest issues fans have with Rhodes is he is making top 5 money and not playing like a top 5 DB. I honestly couldn't say what Joseph's impact is versus his peers. He could be grossly overpaid, but I haven't watched the film to see if he is doing his job better than the majority of DTs. None of us have. Reiff is actually a value for what he is making versus what he is doing on the field. He is an above average LT making the 13th most of any LT.

You reply to someone making a point with "What rock are you living under?" and you feign surprise when Kapp is offended by that?

There is no "feigned" surprise. I am legitimately surprised someone would take offense to something so innocuous. It is a harmless idiom that I have used countless times on message boards, with co-workers and with friends and family, and I have never had a single person be offended. Calling someone a dick and telling them to piss up a rope on the other hand...

I shouldn't have been surprised though. Kapp is the most sensitive poster on here. I will make sure to take that into consideration when responding to his rants in the future.

Honestly, I don't know that I see many people bring up Cousins salary anymore. I also don't think there are many that don't concede to the fact that he's playing very well right now and has almost all year. It's just that some of us aren't sure about "Future Cousins". I guess, for me, the simplest way to put it is that I wish he was one of those QB's that made the stomachs of other fans sick when he is given the ball at the end of a game with their team winning by under a TD....because they just KNOW he's going to drive the ball down the field and lead the team to the winning score. But he's not....or at least he hasn't been. Not in the big critical games. It seems the top tier QB's always do it, somehow. Even when there aren't plays to be made, they find a way. If Rogers were in the same situation as Cousins was on Sunday with 3 minutes left..with the nothing else different... same play calls, same route running, receivers being no less open, that jerk would somehow find a way to do it. So would Brady, and Brees, etc. Maybe I'm pointing too much of the finger at Cousins when instead it comes down to luck or fate. I don't know.

You know what, man? You're the worst kind of dude there is.

You're the bully playing the victim.

Ever since Kirk Cousins put on a Vikings uniform, you've trashed him. Over and over, non-stop. For some of the time, it was warranted. But this season, it's not. Yet you continue to trash his play. That's the bully.

Then, when more and more people come around to backing Cousins' play and speaking up against the bully, you pivot and claim to be the victim. "Nobody is allowed to criticize Kirk Cousins."

So yeah. Go piss up a rope. Maybe not the most mature response, but likely the most appropriate.

Let's put an end to this stupid "Cousins is overpaid" debate right now.

Neil Greenberg, writing for the Washington Post -- a newspaper that was rarely kind to Kirk Cousins -- has this to say about his play. It is a fact-based argument, and I warn you ... it's irrefutable.
The offense is scoring almost eight points per game more than expected on Cousins’s throws this season, even including the slow start, making his current campaign on track to be worth in excess of $47 million in 2019
To catch you up, he's referring to Expected Points per Throw, which is fast becoming the gold standard for analyzing quarterback play in the NFL. It's defined as the number of points scored above what would be expected given the down, distance and field position of each play. It's comparable to WAR in baseball, a metric used by analysts to determine MLB players' dollar value.

To reiterate the quote, the offense is scoring almost eight points per game more than expected on Cousins’s throws this season, even including the slow start to the season in the first four games. Over the past four seasons, NFL teams spent an average of $372,396 in cap dollars for every point added by their quarterbacks.

That makes Cousins' value this season to be $47.2 million.

Link to the article.

Last season, his value was set at just $1.1 million, an awful number, especially compared to his actual cap hit. But even with that season and the first four games of this season factored in, Cousins has a total 2-year cap value greater than the sum of his contract.

In other words, Kirk Cousins is actually a bargain.

Remember, these are the Next Gen stats that so many of you love, and they're cited by a newspaper that was almost never kind to Kirk Cousins.

So there you have it. Haters, go ahead and try to shoot holes in this argument. It's pretty much heavy armor plated, but feel free to waste bullets.

No. It's an analogy. Do you know what that is?

You bullied the topic. You bullied anybody who defended Cousins. You trashed non-stop. You're still doing it. You played the part of the bully. Only now that he's playing well, you're claiming to be the victim.

I posted earlier that I wish the Cousins stuff would get a rest. He and his contract is not the main problem on this team right now. The main problem on the team right now is primarily the defense and, to a lesser extent, the special teams.

10 wins 4 losses sound great until you dig into the substance and also factor in the patterns of this team. NFCE 4 wins AFCW 3 wins Detroit 2 wins and Atlanta.
I know they are all powerhouses and the lucky thing for us is we have only lost to the teams that are good because you won't have to face any in the playoffs.

I mean when you cant beat a KC or Bears team with BU QBs or GB or Seattle because they have winning records. We as fans should have all sorts of confidence in this team. I mean our patterns as a team indicate we dominate year after year vs better teams.

We did beat the Lions with a BU QB and we had a great comeback vs a rookie QB in his first road game. Is that something a good team is proud of? I mean should we have been in position for a comeback to begin with.

Zimmer and Spielman have been a great duo for postseason success. 13 years and 2 playoff wins. What more could a fan want? Rick has sold out to save his butt and put us in a win all mode in 2019.

2020 we have 22 FA no cap and an aging D with more cap reserved then talent delivered and no future at QB and many key contributors going forward.

The reason Kirk was brought in was the last piece to make us legitimate SB contenders. He makes double of any other player on the roster so expectations should be higher and rewarded as such. It's no illusion that Kirk brings little for his pay and has the same results with the Vikings as he had with the Redskins. Mediocre. At some point you have to add up common denominators to all attached to this underperforming team and staff. It matters not who or what is to blame collectively here nor there but always an issue.

We are no better now then 6 yrs ago and we need to make moves to move forward. Not one person in a lead roll has any more growth. Rick, Mike or Kirk are
what you get nothing more nothing less. If you're happy
with status quo we have what you desire. If you want more than change is needed from the top down and let the new regime make the calls.

Assuming they make the playoffs, which is a virtual certainty at this point IMHO, if they are out quickly and not competitive in that loss, it is hard to believe the Wilfs would not be prepared to make some major changes.

If, on the other hand, they do well in the playoffs and play up to their talent level, then what is wrong with the status quo?

What I want is playoff success. A deep playoff run. A Superbowl win. If they achieve that, then I want the status quo.
