It looks like he has managed to get himself a two year deal voidable by the raiders after one, that was the best he could get...doesn't seem that any of the league's GMs think much of him does it!
Yeah it didn't seem like there was any sort of bidding war for him. The Raiders may be a good spot for him as they have a #1 WR so they may have more use for a "gadget" player. And that's really what Patterson is, he's not a Tyreek Hill where he's deadly on special teams and on offense. He'll have an explosive play or two but as a whole, limited touches.

I get not wanting to pay him WR money, but last year it seemed like every time he was near the football he made something positive happen. They are going to miss that and probably miss it a lot. Locke had a great season as well, plus he was the holder for Forbath. That is significant ST turnover. Hopefully Priefer can make something happen with the younger blood on the team. Our Return and Coverage units were a significant strength for us in 2016. I hope we haven't take too serious of a step back there.
Losing Patterson will definitely sting. The Vikings probably aren't going to find someone as versatile/explosive all wrapped into one. I'm concerned about the special teams, which was one of the few real strengths the team had last year. No use pretending having an All-Pro returner didn't help. Patterson was the best in the NFL at it for two years in a row.
mansquatch wrote:Count me as a guy who is excited about what they've added at Tackle. The PFF report on the two we added is a reality check on just how bad it has been. Clemmings vs. either of the two new guys is a net double in PFF rating. Kalil was close to as bad. If you go back to 2015, Clemmings was still terrible, and Kalil was maybe 10 points behind the two new guys. Any way you look at it, these signings represent a tremendous improvement to the OL over what we've seen the past two seasons.
I'm probably in the minority about this but I think the entire offensive line, as in every position, needs replacing and/or depth.

OTOH, I'm happy the Vikings added some improvement at the tackle positions.

I'm thinking Mangold on a two year deal could make a lot of sense. It would put them in position to be looking for only 2 new linemen next year, and then two more the following year as Berger, Boone, Mangold and Remmers are phased out. Then add 1 more the next year as Reiff is phased out.

I am with you on your assessment of CP84. Not surprised with them letting him walk at all. Extremely gifted Physically, but a liability mentally, he's just not that bright. He basically got a prove it deal with the Raiders and that's all he could get. That pretty much says it all.

Wow, it seems people sure forgot about the only Vikings player to win league MVP since 1975 in a hurry.

I think his salary/controversy/injury have allowed fans to distance themselves from him some time ago. Add to that, most people don't think he's a fit for this offense and it doesn't feel like a big loss. For Peterson, I think Oakland or Tampa are the best fit. He would be wasted in Minnesota.

@TomPelissero
Cordarrelle Patterson's deal with #Raiders includes $5.25 million in Year 1 with $5M guaranteed, source said. Year 2 can void w/ performance

Obviously but that wasn't the point.

He was wasted in Minnesota. They squandered his likely Hall of Fame-caliber career.

That's the type of deal I'm hoping AD will take.

Sorry, I missed the point I guess.

I agree. His whole career was spent behind offensive lines ranging from below average to terrible with mostly a hodgepodge of poor QB play. A real shame. Not an unusual story for great RBs for some reason.

Newman has came out and said he does have a deal in place with someone but hasn't revealed who. Won't say if it's us or not ....interesting. He said he would either retire or play for Zim before but for some reason, I don't think it's us. I could be wrong

I wonder how much his role as the "going rogue" leader during the Packers game indicated and/or played a part in this as well. I agree that I get the feeling that he's not going to be back with the Vikes.

I was referring only to the players who already signed elsewhere.

Also, it could be argued that the 2016 offense was essentially an offense without #28 so in that respect not having him in 2017 would be a push, all other things being equal. Of course, the 2016 offense was pathetic, so that isn't something to really get excited over. They need help at RB for certain.
