Missing out on Lacy was a big deal. Much of his demise has been over stated. He goes to STL and tears it up.

Wonder where Morgan stands? It's a shame we didn't retain Pruitt.Grashopa wrote:Tom Pelissero Tweet a few minutes ago.

If you take out the Munnerlyn and Kalil the total snap count of the guys who have left is quite small. It is down right tiny if you take our CP84. The Vikings may not have been splashy so far, but they've protected their cap. 5 years at $55MM for a player like Kalil is just stupid.
I think losing CP84 is going to sting us the most. I get not wanting to pay him WR money, but last year it seemed like every time he was near the football he made something positive happen. They are going to miss that and probably miss it a lot. Locke had a great season as well, plus he was the holder for Forbath. That is significant ST turnover. Hopefully Priefer can make something happen with the younger blood on the team. Our Return and Coverage units were a significant strength for us in 2016. I hope we haven't take too serious of a step back there.
Count me as a guy who is excited about what they've added at Tackle. The PFF report on the two we added is a reality check on just how bad it has been. Clemmings vs. either of the two new guys is a net double in PFF rating. Kalil was close to as bad. If you go back to 2015, Clemmings was still terrible, and Kalil was maybe 10 points behind the two new guys. Any way you look at it, these signings represent a tremendous improvement to the OL over what we've seen the past two seasons.

I like Morgan as well....Rudy is ehh for me. He does come up with some big catches but also seems to drop more than I'd prefer. To me he is an average blocker.

I think Munnerlyn is going to hurt the most. There will be growing pains, but you've got to get the young guys developed too, and no way do I wan signing guys like Patterson and Munnerlyn to cost us a Barr/Kendticks/Rhodes/Joseph type playermansquatch wrote:If you take out the Munnerlyn and Kalil the total snap count of the guys who have left is quite small. I'd agree that this was the one that is going to hurt the most. Most of the others are depth players or marginal players as others have stated. CP would have been nice to have back but its hard to know the backroom opinions and requests on WR playing time for him to know the entire picture of negotiations.autobon7 wrote:

If Alexander isn't up to the task and Newman doesn't come back, we could really be in trouble in the nickel position, especially when I believe the stat is operating at about 60 some percent in the nickel. That is a significant position and we only have to look back at when Robinson took over from Winfield to see what kind of disastrous results that can bring.

I know I know. You love the stats, and they just don't mean much to me. Rudolph is talented but I don't like his demeanor or the way he plays. He doesn't come close to maximizing his physical abilities. I'd call that 'football character' and I think it matters.Pondering Her Percy wrote: Not a fan of a guy that just caught 83 balls for over 800 and 7 tds. Yeah me neither

They've invested several high picks in the guys who will be stepping in to fill the shoes of Newman and Munnerlyn, so it makes sense to get them snaps from a draft equity perspective. Also, one would think that it helps the cap also to not pay Munnerlyn who is probably going to slide downward given his age. It will obviously suck if the effectiveness of Waynes/Alexander is trash.MikethePurple wrote: I'd agree that this was the one that is going to hurt the most. Yeah, I'm a little less worried about Waynes starting and really think he should be put into that position this season. He was drafted highly and they need to give him the opportunity to sink or swim after two years. He's also shown enough where I think he really needs to be starting and he may be able to shine.
I'm just more concerned about Alexander as he was out of position a lot or committing penalties when he was playing last season. Its also understanding for a rookie cornerback to make those mistakes. I'm not opposed to giving him the opportunity or saying that he won't make strides after a season of learning but just penciling him into the starting slot position without a sort of viable back up alternative makes me a little nervous. We saw how badly that worked out with Robinson.
It would be great if they were able to get Newman to come back to play the role of backup at the least.

Newman's comment on Sirius radio today:
I'm planning on playing next season. Hope to get something done in the next few days. I do have a deal that is imminent...
So we will find out soon at least!
