He hasn't been in the same system for the past 5 seasons and the Vikings will presumably have a new system next year.

The report that he might take a team-friendly deal is pure speculation at this point.
Well yeah just about everything out there is speculation at this point. Unless it comes from him or his agents mouth

Him signing with a different team?

There's an "article" on ESPN.com (read: the enquirer of sports) this morning saying that the Cowboys are in the mix for Peterson's service.

That seems completely unfounded and illogical to me.

Please be true.

The Cowboys owe us for the Herschel Walker trade.

He and Zeke would be a great 1-2 punch, but AD will not go somewhere as a backuo.

It's one of a multitude of rumors circulating about Peterson. Most of them seem illogical, if not ridiculous.

I am far more concerned and interested in progress regarding our OL then any deals about AP. Spending money on him would just be pandering to some fans and wasting resources on nostalgia fora window that has closed. A fools errand.....begging for SPielman to commit that error.

Well AP has a lot to do with if we improve our OL. If we kept AP at $18 million, we aren't getting many OL in FA. So yeah, deals regarding AP are pretty important

They wont keep him at $18 million. That's so unlikely it's barely worthy of consideration.

Yeah I would hope not as well. But whatever we do with him can really hinge on what we do with the OL

It will definitely make a difference in their cap space but I don't think the OL moves hinge on his contract. I see other factors that could be of equal or greater consequence when it comes to improving the line. It's safe to assume Peterson won't make $18 million next year so if he's back some of that projected money will be available, perhaps as much as $8-12 million.

The Vikes have $18-20 million in cap space even with Peterson under his current contract. They could free up another $10 million or so by cutting Fusco and Floyd (or Robison). Renegotiating any of those contracts could free up money too.

What they do with the contracts for Bradford and Rhodes might have as much impact as what they do with Peterson. Bradford's contract is as expensive as Peterson's and we know he's not going anywhere so will they just absorb the $18 million hit at QB or will they seek to extend the deal and spread that hit out a bit?

To me, the biggest issue is going to be the price and availability of quality offensive linemen in free agency in the first place. I think the better options will be pretty limited and likely overpriced. Unless surprise cuts make a few more options available, I don't know if there's going to be anybody worthy of an expensive long-term contract. Overspending on mediocre players could lead to short-term improvement and long-term headaches so I hope they proceed wisely.

This sums it up nicely. They'll be lucky to land a solid O linemen in free agency. If they do they'll overpay like they did for Boone. The O line fix is not a simple one. There are several other teams that are contenders whom need O linemen bad too.
