Vikings RB Adrian Peterson wants to return, open to pay cut

Re: Vikings RB Adrian Peterson wants to return, open to pay
My guess is he will tell the Vikings he's open to a $1-2 million paycut, and think he's doing the Vikings a huge favor. The Vikings will ask him to take a pay cut of $5-8 million and he will balk and get angry at the Vikings Front Office and say something asinine and stupid about the Vikings to the media. Then the Vikings will cut him. Then he will start feeling out other teams and realize he's hardly worth anything.

Adrian Peterson suggested today that he believes he still deserves to earn $18 million this upcoming season and named three teams he would have interest in playing for in 2017 if the Vikings aren't willing to pay him.720pete wrote:My guess is he will tell the Vikings he's open to a $1-2 million paycut, and think he's doing the Vikings a huge favor. True, but the fact that he is willing to name teams, let alone that he's given it that much consideration, tells me that his first priority is getting all the money he can get, with his own personal success coming in second. He's obviously given a lot of thought to where else he'd like to play, and those are all teams that a) prefer to run the ball a lot, and b) have shown they're willing to shell out large sums of money.TSonn wrote: When I first saw the news about this interview I had a similar reaction. After watching the full interview, though, he spent about 80% of the time explaining why he wants to return to the Vikings and 20% talking about the other teams because he was badgered by the First Take crew.
I don't blame AP for looking out for #1. But at some point, most players put winning a championship high on the priority list. The fact that none of those teams is close to championship level tells me a lot.
Best of luck, Adrian. I hope you get all the money you want, and I hope you win another rushing title or two.

Go ahead. I dare you.
Underestimate this man.

Houston got a lot closer this season than our Vikes did this season. The Giants were closer too and they actually have two recent Super Bowl wins.J. Peterson's obviously positioning himself for an inevitable negotiation. He would be foolish to come out and say publicly that he's not worth the price on his currently signed contract and that he should take a substantial pay cut. That's no way to enter a negotiation.
We can probably expect to see posturing from both sides and I wouldn't worry about a word that's said from either side until that negotiation has actually taken place.

If we can draft Perine or someone similar, I would be ok with letting him go. But he is probably the only RB in the league that would be able to get anything out of our OL.

I'm just sick of AP's fumbling. If he puts up any stink about a pay cut whatsoever, cut him and let him go to Tampa for all I care.

I wonder why he likes Tampa? Maybe he wants to play with Winston?PacificNorseWest wrote:I'm just sick of AP's fumbling. If he puts up any stink about a pay cut whatsoever, cut him and let him go to Tampa for all I care.

Tampa has every piece to be a very good team. Plus playing half your games where there's no state tax saves a lot of money !!!PurpleMustReign wrote: I wonder why he likes Tampa? Maybe he wants to play with Winston?

Until you need a roof over your head, and realize that property taxes leave you even worse off than if your state hadn't tried to hide how it gathers its resources.

AD's decision to talk in the press about other places he'd be interested in is likely a move that was advised by his agent. I really hope we let him walk.

Imagine AD rushing for 2200 next year and leading his team.........the Bucs to a Super bowl win!!
Re: Vikings RB Adrian Peterson wants to return, open to pay
I think that the Bucs are a great fit for him. They need and want that big name superstar type. With us having rights to AD, maybe we can trade him to the Bucs ?

He'd probably have to agree to renegotiate his contract first. Under the terms of his current deal he's probably untradeable.
Re: Vikings RB Adrian Peterson wants to return, open to pay
Rick Spielman had this to say about the RB class in this draft and about Adrian Peterson:
http://www.startribune.com/rick-spielma ... 411429695/
http://www.startribune.com/rick-spielma ... 411429695/
We had our first meeting in December, and then our scouts will be coming in in a couple weeks and head down to the Senior Bowl,” he said. “I saw most of those kids that are going to be in the Senior Bowl, but I think offensively the two strongest positions — and I don’t know all the juniors that are coming out or who’s staying or going and that won’t be decided for a couple weeks — but it looks like an extremely strong running back class. I think the tight end class is going to be extremely strong."
Then there’s the big question on two of the key pieces of the Vikings offense in Adrian Peterson and Teddy Bridgewater. Spielman talked about each player’s unique circumstances.
“I think Adrian will always defy the odds,” Spielman said. “He got hurt this year, but I still think he has a lot of football left in him. Those will be some of the tough decisions we have to make, and what you do is when you go through this process you’re trying to weigh in where are you going to put your resources and financially where are you going to spend your money.
“We have a lot of young guys coming up this year. I think Xavier Rhodes is an extremely talented young player that we’re going to have to be mentally prepared to address his contract. Those decisions will be made once we get through the free agency and draft meetings. But I think Adrian Peterson has football left in him.”

Agreed. Peterson's age can't be changed but his contract will have to be altered no matter what team he plays for next season.Mothman wrote:
