Theories on who that other team / player was?
I'd almost bet my left kidney that it was the Broncos & Sanchez.
Wade Philips tweeted about Bradford to Vikings before the trade was announced(30-60 min before).
My guess is the Vikings told Philips that they were going to go with Bradford instead.

Cons:
Injury History
High Cost (any solution other than Hill was going to be expensive)
Pros:
Arm Strength
Signed through 2017 (If TB isn't ready to go next September)
Experience
Other points:
Going into this year if you were sober you realized that on offense how far we would go would come down to whether or not the PPG went up by 4-7 points. This basically came down to two things: 1.) Can the OL protect and 2.) Can TB turn into a 25TD / 12 INT QB vs. a 14TD / 9INT QB. It seemed highly doubtful that Hill would have been able to give us 25/12. Bradford has a chance to do this. So in that respect the change is now we wonder if Bradford can do instead of Bridgewater.
I'm not sure how mobile or immobile Bradford is, but I get the sense that he is not as elusive and TB, so again, the OL is a major issue. Not new, but probably a more acute problem that it was with TB. This is the same as Hill although probably not as bad. In addition, I think there is a factor of how long it takes Sam to get a handle on the offense and develop chemistry with his pass catchers. The latter item is likely the biggest challenge in the short term. I doubt he is ready on Sunday, but can he be ready for the home opener?
An open question for me is that Bradford has never been a winner in the NFL. It seems that we are betting a lot of marbles that this had more to do with the teams he played on than Bradford himself. He is going to have to show us that is not the case.
Another under-rated pro of this move is the team morale. The Leadership just showed the roster that they want to win are not going to just throw this season to the side because the QB went down. I have to think that will help with player retention over the long run. Imagine if you are Chad Greenway when TB went down, just heartbreaking. In that respect I suspect this move was a huge boost to locker room morale.
If they make a run at the SB, the 1st round pick will be a cheap cost. If they flounder this will likely overshadow a good amount of the mostly great work Spielman has done. (Unfairly IMO, his hands are all over the majority of the young players on our roster.) Whether it works out or not, I love that they had the guts to do this. It is a high risk/high reward move, but they are doing it at the right time. They have a legitimate, if imperfect, window with this roster. TB going down closes that window. Now it is potentially open again, albeit at a steep cost. I just have to admire how ballsy this is.
The Rams got a 2nd and 4th round pick for Sam coming off 2 ACL tears and not playing in 2 years.
The Eagles got a 1st and (hopefully) a 2nd after last year.
In a WORST CASE scenerio, as long as he is healthy the Vikings WILL recoup much if not all the draft capitol they just spent on him.
But I think there is going to be a "best case" scenerio that many here are not prepared for...yet.

I call it the horseshoe method.. everyone drops back a step or two(and angle a small pocket
or horseshoe and the tackles just force the rusher outside a let them run a wide circle. I am sure
there is a different name for it but the quarterback moves up
and throws the ball or throws it out of bounds. This method would allow four receivers at once
it accepts the rush will get there, it just gives enough time for the wide outs to run to there cut
or break.
Now I understand. I usually just think of that as the pocket. I was confused because typically, when I see the word collapse used in relation to the pocket, it's a reference to the interior pass rush getting a push and leaving the QB without room to step up. Thanks for explaining what you meant!

The best case scenario is we go deep into the playoffs or even the Superbowl. (sorry, I won't believe that until I see it.) and then we have a genuine QB controversy in MN. Consider that with 2 picks traded to acquire Bradford the Vikings are technically have more draft equity invested in him than they do TB. There is no guarantee that TB is "the guy" when he comes back from his injury. (If he comes back.) There is a lot trail to be blazed before we reach that point though, which is why I didn't feel compelled to really go into it.
I think the coming 5 games ahead of the bye-week are a critical stretch, especially weeks two and three. (Houston could also be a challenge if it's defense plays to the level it did late last season.) If this team is going to be a legit top seed in the NFC, then it needs to find a way go 4-1 in this stretch. Once we get to the bye-week I think Bradford will have had the time he needs to settle in and deliver the goods, assuming he can actually do that.
I'm more worried about the chaos that would ensue if Bradford is mediocre and they go 9-7. That could be the least pleasant winning season we've had in a long time around here. I shudder at that thought...

Sent using tapatalk. Typos should be expected.
He's been sharp for the better part of a season now. It'll take him a bit to learn the offense and build chemistry with the guys but I really think people are not excited enough about this acquisition!

Same! I love Teddy, but Bradford actually fits Turner's system way better. He's much more of a Rivers/Aikman than Teddy is.

I agree somewhat Teddy can throw it deep but kinda huck's the ball... Bradford is very accurate .. I did notice Bradford does waffle the ball
but compared to a lot of QB's it still is pretty accurate(kind of weird) The other thing Bradford does well is time his throws... Bradford has very
little mobility compared to Teddy. Man I hope the OL can keep him healthy ...

I'm hopeful about this but as a long-time Viking fan I know that disappointment is proportional to the excitement felt previously. I will get excited when Bradford gives me reason to. I know better than to get excited about what someone might do.

Peter King (who has been bugging me this year with his Kaepernick cheerleading) has a blow by blow account of the negotiations with the Eagles leading up to the trade.

If he gets the ball out of his hand quickly, that will help a lot. That's why I'd rather not see them rush him onto the field. Comfort with the system/receivers will lead to confidence and hopefully, will enable him to throw quickly on most plays (some will obviously just take longer to develop).
I agree with those saying he's a better fit for Turner's system.
Calling from Philly and I can tell you without a doubt you got a GREAT QB yesterday..!!
I know there's doubters, but Sam Bradford is an elite passer as good as any in the league and I really mean any..
This is no lie..
Bradford has played on absolutely rotten teams from the time he was in the league.. St. Louis was the worst of the worst and the Eagles last year were even worse than that.. Other teams openly said last year they could predict what plays the Eagles were running because Kelly's nutty offensive scheme had become so predictable and he never changed anything about it in the 3 years he was there.
In spite of that Bradford set an Eagle record last year for completion percentage with an absolutely terrible OL, nobody who could run the ball and with the totally worst receivers in the league who lead the league in drops..
This is no joke... You guys are going to move the ball..
For me personally, the whole change Bradford for Wentz move is insanity..
But Eagles are going to do what they're going to do...
Good luck..!!
The drops were painful to watch because many were thrown perfectly on the money. How much better does his stats get if those balls are caught? I'd say higher completion percentage, less picks, a few more TD's. Protect this guy, give him some weapons, you guys got a top 10 qb in the league.

Interesting. Your theory makes a lot of sense, and if correct, I'm much happier with Bradford, even at the price we paid.
Speaking of Bradford specifically, I don't think the playbook will be his problem right off the bat. I think it will be his chemistry with the receivers. That doesn't come overnight or even a couple of weeks. So I look for him to,struggle a bit for a few games because of that. So I don't plan on jumping down his throat for a bit because of that.
