Re: Sam Bradford's a Viking
Price is a little steep, but it's worth it to put us back in the super bowl contender conversation.

Re: Sam Bradford's a Viking
I am a Sam Bradford admirer, but the compensation for him is ridiculous. Especially when the dude has two years top here.

Re: Sam Bradford's a Viking
This is so stupid...
Pre Teddy injury we may have had a dynasty on the way attend upgrading the RT long term and developing SS and RG and C while possibly getting short term solutions for 1-2 years. The team wasn't really going to be weak anywhere...
Now there goes our draft ammo for a QB that isn't going to give us the edge needed to win a Super Bowl, and costs us $7M this year, and $17M next year... And that's assuming the Eagles eat his full $11M signing bonus.
We could have had a dynasty on the way.
We would have been better off trading Shaun Hill for a year, tanking this year, trading down in the draft and getting craploads of draft picks for 2017 as well as some really good picks, getting some free agent... Actually having a full offseason for a free agent QB to learn the offense, and getting Teddy back sometime mid 2017 or 2018 and having the tools around him that he needs to succeed.
So disappointing.
At least Pat Shurmer has some familiarity with Bradford so we can script some games for Bradford pretty quickly... The problem is he only has a week to practice and learn timing with his WRs before week1 and so if we start him he comes in with no chemistry and if we wait he's taking #1QB reps away from Hill.
They panicked.
Probably more so because of financial reasons and wanting to make sure they stay sold out than for reasons of helping the Vikings long term.
Bradford is an okay QB for sure and probably a little under rated... But he isn't going to be elite.
I'm not exactly surprised by the asking price considering that Bradford was going to start the season as a starter this year. Now it'll be ChaseDaniels or Carson Wentz.

I have to say, I can't understand how one doesn't feel like Bradford under center relegitmizes the Vikings as a contender.
Kind of feels like Spielman just bought your season back, but still.

Re: Sam Bradford's a Viking
I'm fully aware of the drawbacks to Bradford and I'm not sure how I feel about this move yet. I'm still weighing the pros and cons. First and foremost among the latter: he's been injury-prone. However, for those of you who you believed the Vikes had a legitimate shot to win the Super Bowl with Bridgewater this year, and despaired that this was going to be a lost season without him: it sure seems like this re-opens that window of opportunity if Hill can hold down the fort for a while and Bradford can pick up the system quickly enough. He's certainly capable of playing as well as or better than Bridgewater. He's only 28 years old and he's a veteran so it's not like he'll be thrown into the fire for the first time.
Look at this way: of the win the Super Bowl, that first round pick is practically a second-rounder.

Re: Sam Bradford's a Viking
I'll be honest and say that I feel that we gave up a lot for a QB that's at best a one year rental. Even if that pick is in the 20's that's still too much. There's always guys that fall in the draft. That's how we ended up with Treadwell and Teddy...

Re: Sam Bradford's a Viking
I think that we had hopes for a SB dashed by Teddy getting hurt. Not sure what other QB we could have gotten would have given us the same chance.
#2 and maybe most importantly to me is what's not being said.....
Giving a 1st red pick means that Teddys injury is way more serious than we are privy too. We will never be drafting high enough to get that Elite 1st rd QB. So, maybe they think we keep Bradford at the helm and maybe he can actually live up to the hype ?

Im not understanding how you write off Bradford as 'Not going to be elite' but somehow think Teddy being injured is going to be the difference between a possible dynasty or not.mike2mike wrote:This is so stupid...

Right, and obviously a SB victory in its own right would be more then worth the price.Mothman wrote:I'm fully aware of the drawbacks to Bradford and I'm not sure how I feel about this move yet. Re: Sam Bradford's a Viking
The price was steep but this move gives us a contingency plan in case Teddy doesn't have a full recovery and gives us potentially a great backup if Teddy does come back and we can re-sign Bradford.
Rick didn't have to trade any of the current roster for Bradford. Sure, losing a first hurts but if we are back in the playoffs again it is a late first where the bust potential is pretty high.

Re: Sam Bradford's a Viking
Ehh... The 32nd pick is basically a 2nd rounder anyways
Re: Sam Bradford's a Viking
Are Kalil and Smith still our starting OTs?
Bradford will be on IR by the bye, if he's even starting by then.
What an awful, awful move. Now I'm REALLY concerned for Teddy. And the franchise. It's amazing how severely one injury can potentially doom a franchise.

People always react emotionally about these things.Jordysghost wrote:I have to say, I can't understand how one doesn't feel like Bradford under center relegitmizes the Vikings as a contender.
I'm not sure how I feel about the price yet but the Vikes weren't going to find a legitimate starter cheaply in early September. As far as I'm concerned, Bradford steps in as potentially the best QB the Vikes have had in 5 or 6 years. There are definitely drawbacks and obstacles (especially learning the system) but this move gives the Vikings a legitimate starter for at least part of 2016 and doesn't have to be just a one year rental, with faith that Bridgewater will return from a devastating injury ready to take charge when the 2017 season begins.
The big question is: when will they be able to get him ready to play?
At least they made a move that looks beyond this season.

Indeed. It would be worth WAY more than the price!
Re: Sam Bradford's a Viking
Sam Bradford has an NFL career passer rating of 81.0. Shaun Hill's career passer rating is 85.2.
