Vikings draft WR Moritz Boehringer

Post by dead_poet »

After his outstanding pro day, the media hype surrounding Boehringer cranked into full gear, but for all of the traits he possesses, he's still in the very early stages of learning the game. While he has feast or famine written all over him, he's competitive and could offer early benefits in kick coverage or as a kick returner while he continues to learn the position. Boehringer's pro day was almost equal to what Jeff Janis put together two years ago and he was drafted in the seventh round after playing Division II football.

I'm really intrigued by this guy...He has all the tools.
But looks like a huge project with his raw talent. Hope he makes out!

Considering the way the coaches have handled Patterson who, as raw as he was coming into the league, was still probably further along in his development, it will be interesting to see how they handle the German Unicorn.

That really is the framework with which to view this pick. Patterson has proven that an athletic specimen with very underdeveloped technique and awareness of the craft of WR is really not a recipe for success with this team.

I heard the NFLN praise the way that Speilman and Zimmer work together to form a unified vision for the team. I see that on the defensive side of the ball, but it seems to me like there is a serious disconnect between the Ricker (who loves these WR "projects" apparently) and Norv/ offensive minded Zim.

In the end, it'll be up to him. Will Boehringer come in and do the things he needs to do to improve and maximize his potential?

He strikes me as someone that is so grateful to have a shot he'll do whatever is asked of him, and then some. Of course, by all accounts Babbs did the same. The question is how far along is he and how quickly can he refine his technique? He's a long-shot. Put it this way: Duron Carter has similar measurables, has grown up around the NFL and played for years. Last I heard he's unemployed.

One thing that jumps out to me on him, though, is his stride length and fluidity. I know he's 6'4, but his strides are LONG. He looks much more natural as a runner than, say, Patterson, who I've always thought looked incredibly stiff for whatever reason. Of course Patterson is much more likely to juke defenders out of their shoes if he can bribe Norv to put him on the field. That's not Moritz's game, preferring to run past defenders with his rather deceptive speed.

Mo already has five times the experience
Of Baps did and can run a route tree and
has played some special teams.

Baps just mauled small guys with
little technique or blocking schemes

It looks that way to me too.

The thing that cooled me off about Boehringer was that he was actually the second best receiver on his team. The top receiver was an older, former NAIA player that couldn't make an NFL roster. I wish I could find the reference for you guys. So, if he works hard, maybe he'll see the field in a couple years.

I do wonder about potentially converting him to a receiving TE. He's got good height and already pretty big and you wonder if he did a more professional strength and conditioning program how much he could put on. His build and stuff reminds me of TE's like former(well, not technically, but probably soon) baltimore TE Dennis Pitta.

I don't know anything about this guy other than he's a heigh, weight, speed specimen. Hopefully he works out. He was worth the gamble imo.

He is about 22 years old 6'4 something runs a 4.41 40 yard good times and very good jump. He is basically a physical freak, who has five years
experience in limited football experience, in Germany. If he works out he could be a once in a decade steal for the Vikings. If not he cost us a sixth
round pick maybe a little more. I love guys like this...

John Randle went Undrafted but was one of the best defensive players in his generations. I hope he becomes that kind of guy....
if nothing its a good story and time will tell on Mo Moss "AKA the Green Unicorn"

Expectations have to be low, but these types of guys are the most fun to hope for. What a story it would be if this kid made the 53! I heard the coldomaha guys podcast and they were already suggesting he has the inside track on Mr. Mankato. He's white and German, Isaac Fruechte can't compete with that!
