That $1.6 was probably a typo. Otherwise, the numbers don't add up to the reported $26 million or so. I'm betting Tom Pelissero has it right below:

@TomPelissero
Alex Boone's deal with #Vikings is 4 years, $26.8 million with $10M fully guaranteed. He'll make $6.7M in 2016. Cap number also $6.7M.

The line has rather good depth and modularity now with Berger/Boone/Harris/Fusco being able to play multiple spots. Clemmings also provides depth behind Loadholt. Perhaps they look for a LT in the draft and maybe even a center in later rounds.

From Goessling
Alex Boone will get $26.8 million from the Vikings over the next four years, including $10 million guaranteed. The former 49ers guard will make a base salary of $1.6 million in 2016, before his base salary jumps to $6.6 million in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Boone will get $100,000 workout bonuses each year, and a $5 million roster bonus this year. His 2016 base salary is fully guaranteed, as is $3.4 million of his 2017 base salary.

Kalil, Fusco, Sullivan, Berger, Boone, Harris, Loadholt, Bykowski, Sirles, Shepherd, clemmings, kerin, easton.....#Vikings suddenly have competition, depth at O-line.

It doesn't add up. I suspect all these guys are just repeating the mistake initially reported by Houston Chronicle reporter Aaron Wilson without bothering to do the basic math. Pelissero's a reliable reporter and since his math actually adds up, I'll trust his take on this. It makes more sense.

:wallbang:

Just add Boone and a line that's given up 140 sacks in 3 seasons is now deep, eh? I'm not buying it... and yes, I know Sullivan and Loadholt are coming back,. Berger has been part of that depth all along and he's solid but I sure hope they're going to make OL a priority in this draft.

FiestaVike may be the only one who will agree with me on this though... if I'm lucky.

I just did the math and it worked:
2016: $100K workout bonus + 1.6 mil salary + 5mil roster bonus: 6.7 mil
2017: $100K workout bonus 6.6 mil salary = 6.7 mil
2018: $100K workout bonus 6.6 mil salary = 6.7 mil
2019: $100K workout bonus 6.6 mil salary = 6.7 mil
Total 26.8 mil

I agree with you Jim.

I don't believe that anyone outside of Berger (if he comes back) and possibly Clemmings are the answers at the backup positions. Heck, I don't believe that Mike Harris nor Brandon Fusco are the answers at guard.

If this team doesn't spend a high round pick on an offensive lineman, I will be absolutely livid.

My mistake. I'm tired and bleary-eyed right now and I looked right past the $5 million roster bonus in Goessling's comment. That was sloppy. His report adds up to exactly what Pelissero was reporting.

Sorry about that.

I agree tooJim. I have said that i think the Vikings will have better luck trading for an OL rather than signing one.

I also agree. I'll be livid if Kalil starts at LT without an attempt to replace him. It's nice to see improves elsewhere in the Oline however the LT usually gets the best rusher on the team, and Kalil is arguebly the worst on the line, not a good match up.

No worries, I have been reading your posts for several years, just finally decided to contribute. I am still a rookie here so had to double check my math before posting

So far the only player I am still hoping for is Reggie Nelson, I would like to see what he can do with Harrison Smith on the other side.

That needs a mountain of context, Jim. Many of those sacks have come from:

1) Kalil playing injured
2) Sullivan out
3) Clemmings at RT
4) Loadholt out
5) Fusco out
6) Fusco playing out of position/possibly injured
7) Charlie Johnson at LG

It depends on which lens you choose to view the players now (Kalil getting healthy, Loadholt going to be at or close to 100%, Fusco back at RG, etc.). Even the most pessimistic should admit a few of those should go our way. Boone's addition will make the unit even greater.

If you want to play that game go back and see how many sacks were given up during that time period from: Kalil's rookie year + 2015, Fusco's healthy year at RG, Phil's healthy years at RT, Sullivan from 2013-2014, Boone last year. Then compare those numbers to the league average over that span as a unit and pressure/sack per snap. Then let's talk :)
