I have that same fear, but with the hiring of Sparano, I feel like standing pat just isn't going to happen. At the very least we'll draft some young talent in the first few rounds, I'm hoping.

They'll do something but I won't be surprised if we see a starting lineup like that looks very familiar with just one change. We'll see how it works out. I'm starting to think they may plan to draft a tackle early with the idea that he'll start in 2017 unless he beats out Kalil or Loadholt in camp. I'm hoping we won't see the same old approach at guard but my gut feeling is that's where this is headed.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. They're in a bit of a pickle with two important guys coming off of injuries. I'd love for a bit more of an aggressive approach with the G position too.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports free agent RT Mitchell Schwartz has drawn interest from the Buccaneers, Giants, Vikings, and Falcons during the negotiating period.
I would love this signing!!!

At least they have reduced Loadholt's salary enough to make it possible to bring in more competition, and possibly cut him if he isn't doing well enough.

Not yet convinced Harris will be back. I think he can do better than 3.5 per on the market.

Kalil will be the big key. Unless they can draw up the parameters of a deal in the next couple days to have his replacement lined up, it'll be a tough call to release him.

I won't be shocked if the whole interior of the line is replaced by opening day though.

The #Vikings have reached out to a representative of Cincinnati safety Reggie Nelson. Seems they really like him. Mike Zimmer sure likes him
Cheaper option to Illoka. 33 y/o though. Short-term option?

Probably expressed interest before the Loadholt agreement

I know.

You are much more comfortable with the status quo than I am, but seriously, if Harris signs elsewhere, Sullivan doesn't bounce back from injury, and the vikings add one FA G who outplays Fusco, you are looking at a completely revamped interior on the line. I'm not sure why that would be such a shocking set of developments. They are all quite possible.

Because that type of turnover rarely -- if ever -- happens to a starting offensive line over the course of a single offseason. It's equally possible Sullivan & Loadholt recover from injury and are better than any other options available (within fiscally responsible reason). I don't know why the (healthy) status quo version is looked at as such a bad thing when there's potential there for an above-average unit, especially if they can add a better LG while drafting some solid guys to compete for roles in the next three years.

There it is. No one has yet to articulate a coherent thought process on why a healthy Sullivan + Loadholt back in 2016 doesn't equal a big improvement over 2015's Berger/Clemmings. I'm not sure why this had so much traction this year. Now the results are in: Phil took a cut, Sullivan is expected back. All signs are currently pointing towards Kalil being back, we'll know for sure in 48 hours. That leaves: The guards. IMO this was the logical progression of things.

We'll see though. We might see them spend $$$ on a Tackle and then all the theories will be thrown into chaos.

My guess is they'll sign a Guard. The talent at Guard on the roster is all late round, so even a 2nd tier Free Agent is likely an improvement on the current roster.

I would not be shocked if the NFL has a run on OL in both FA and the Draft. There were a lot of BAD OLs in 2015. So there will be a lot of teams looking to improve.

#Vikings have reached out to representative of Cincinnati free-agent linebacker Vincent Rey. Vikings need an LB and Mike Zimmer coached him
