Pondering Her Percy wrote: Woot woot!!! Maybe this is why they are looking at Dan Campbell. Good move and I think the organization is well aware of the offensive line problem which is a good sign

They'd have incompetent to be unaware of the o-line problem at this point! However, I agree, this is a good sign. It suggests they're serious about improving their OL play. Let's hope that commitment extends to personnel and not just a change in coaches.

It will be another interesting offseason.

It sounds like he's only coached TE's before he became the head coach of the dolphins and he also played TE. Is he the right guy for o-line?

That's a reasonable question, but he was a strong blocking TE who worked hand in hand with the O-line frequently, so I'm sure he has a solid understanding of how to do it.

The poor performance of the Vikings’ offensive line has cost offensive line coach Jeff Davidson his job.

Toward the end of his season-ending press conference today, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was asked if he expected to have all of his coaches return next season.

“I do not,” he said.

Dan Campbell leaves after going 5-7 as Dolphins interim head coach. Wilson reported the Minnesota Vikings, Dallas Cowboys and San Diego Chargers are all interested in Campbell after his departure.

I wasn't all that impressed with our TE's this year, what about the chances of making him our TE coach instead of Kevin Stefanski?

this offensive line is terrible. the weakest link on the team.
Wouldn't the correct example to be to fire the Jerry Gray because Sendejo is playing poorly?

Thank God! Davidson was vastly overrated and his OLines were terrible. I would consider trading a draft pick to Oakland for Mike Tice. Although i do like Dan Campbell. .

Cold is temporary. Purple Pride is forever.

Zimmer final presser...

On Peterson
@murphPPress Zimmer's mistake not integrating Peterson more pass game; on more versatility "I think Adrian Peterson can do anything he sets his mind to."
@murphPPress Zimmer's talk with AP included Tiki Barber's fumble cure: "Adrian can do those things. Trust me I’m going to stay on his rear end on it."
'
@GoesslingESPN Candid season-ending presser from Mike Zimmer. Said he might have made a mistake not playing Peterson in the preseason to get him acclimated
On Walsh
@murphPPress Zimmer on Walsh: "I expect our guys to perform all the time. Unfortunately for kickers it’s the finality of the situation. "(Walsh) wasn’t on the field when Wilson ran it and threw it down to the 1-yard line. He wasn’t on the field when we fumbled."
@VikingsCorner Zimmer also said he was proud of the way the team handled Blair Walsh's missed kick. Said other plays contributed to the loss too.
@mattvensel Mike Zimmer said he was proud of how his team showed support for Blair Walsh. He said he spoke with Blair in front of the team. #Vikings
@Eric_L_Smith Zimmer: This team was not ready to go home.
On expectations
@murphPPress Zimmer: "I have such high expectations I don’t think we exceeded expectations anywhere." What didn't meet expectations "Everything else."
@murphPPress Zimmer on heightened expectations: "There’s no guarantees. They’re high-character guys. In that aspect they’re well-equipped to handle it."
@VikingsCorner The theme of Zimmer's presser: "we aren't where we want to be yet." Offense will be an emphasis this offseason.
@VikingsCorner When asked whether Norv Turner would be back, Zimmer said he anticipated he would be.
-- Not necessarily a huge vote of confidence in that language

On offensive line
@VikingsCorner Zimmer on the offensive line, "Sporadic. We've got to do better."
@Andrew_Krammer Zimmer: "I didn't want" to renew Davidson's contract. He was the O-line coach prior to Zimmer's hiring
@Edwerderespn #Vikings seeking to hire OL coach to replace Jeff Davidson. Hudson Houck - worked with Zim and Norv - was invited to help in camp last year
@Andrew_Krammer Zimmer: "Everybody's a possibility" for O-line coach when asked if Dan Campbell, former Miami interim HC, is a candidate.
@VikingsCorner Wouldn't mind Dan Campbell as the OL coach. He gets after guys and that's what is needed this time around.
@AaronWilson_NFL Sources: Dan Campbell now free to seek other jobs, Vikings, Cowboys, Chargers inquired about him https://shar.es/1688Cj via @footballpost
@christomasson Mike Zimmer said T.J. Clemmings was up and down. He'll have to come back and compete.
On Chad Greenway
‏@VikingsCorner Zimmer on Chad Greenway: "I love Chad. I hope that things work out for him. He's a great Viking"
@christomasson Mike Zimmer on Chad Greenway: "He's always going to be one of my kind of guys.'' Wants him back for 11th year.
-- sounds mutual. Look for Greenway back in 2016. Role undetermined.

On offseason surgeries
@VikingsCorner Zimmer said on offseason surgeries: Joseph (toe), Thielen (shoulder), Everson Griffen may have surgery if he doesn't go to the Pro Bowl.
On Patterson
@VikingsCorner Zimmer says he has hope for Cordarrelle Patrerson, but "the proof is in the pudding."
@mattvensel Mike Zimmer said it's on Cordarrelle Patterson to become a real WR. "If he doesn't do it, then that's what he's going to be, a returner."
On Wallace
@GoesslingESPN Mike Zimmer said he hopes Mike Wallace is back. Said Wallace "didn't #### one time" about not getting the ball. $ is the issue there.
@VikingsCorner Zimmer really expressed how much he loved Mike Wallace as a person and that he was disappointed about how things worked out this year.
On Trae Waynes/defense
@christomasson Mike Zimmer on Trae Waynes: "I feel he can be a starting corner next year,'' but says he has to compete.
@Andrew_Krammer Zimmer: Trae Waynes can be a starting corner next year, but I'm not handing out jobs on Jan. 12
@Andrew_Krammer Zimmer on defensive young corps: "It's a good start." #Vikings
On Teddy
‏@Vikings "Everything about Teddy I love. There's not one thing about him that I don't love." - Coach Zimmer
@Andrew_Krammer Mike Zimmer was asked about competition for Teddy Bridgewater: "Teddy is our quarterback."
@christomasson Mike Zimmer says Teddy Bridgewater needs to "come over the top more."
-- Like the Stallone arm wrestling movie? :?:
@christomasson Mike Zimmer says the Vikings always want to bring quarterbacks in but not to compete with Teddy now. "Teddy's our quarterback.''
On Terance Newman
@christomasson MIke Zimmer on whether Terence Newman will come back: "I think Terence has value. A lot of it depends on what he wants to do.''
On coaching/misc
@1500ESPNJudd Mike Zimmer very candid in talking about the offense and that there were things that could have been figured out earlier.
@christomasson Mike Zimmer: "I'm not sure I've become a better coach. I'm trying to become a better coach every day.''
@Andrew_Krammer Mike Zimmer said he's probably talked to Bill Parcells five times over last two days: "He’s always evaluating me, he's always coaching me."
@christomasson Mike Zimmer said the #Vikings didn't into last year's draft saying necessarily they would emphasize defense. Wants good players.
@christomasson Mike Zimmer: "I think there's some areas on offense we need to get better at.''
@christomasson Mike Zimmer says the #Vikings have a "ton of work" to do and it will be an important offseason
@murphPPress Zimmer giddy about final presser: "This is the last time you’re all going to see me in a long time. I feel like Rocky. I got it over with."

hopefully hearing it from the coaches mouth will clear up the mystery of why wallace was playing over patterson. one is a wr and one is a returner.

Demi was saying it doesn't make sense to fire the O-line coach considering the talent on the line after injury.

Your response to that was;
We're also in the playoffs with Andrew Sendejo starting at S, but I assume you want to replace Andrew Sendejo.
Your scenario would only make sense if Demi was advocating keeping one of the offense line members rather than the coach.

Anyway, sounds like maybe what you meant and how I took it are different.

Not to interject myself (well, ok... I am interjecting myself) but the Sendejo's Coach is also Smith's coach, so half of that unit is playing extremely well. I don't think your comparison works, because we don't have anyone on the OL playing even remotely at the level Smith is. Kalil would have played that way in the past, but has taken a 'nose-dive' in performance (seems to suggest coaching could be at least partially responsible).
I've told people a million times not to exaggerate!

I get what you're saying ... but now pretend Smith was out all season and see how it looks. What about Smith and Rhodes and Newman playing only partially well with a tweaked knee? How'd the coverage look when Josh Robinson had to come into the field last Sunday?

I just don't buy that this was an offensive line coach problem. He's not the reason the offensive line is so thin ...
