And, Berger has done quite well this season too... Clemmings and Fusco, and lately Kalil, have been the main culprits, IMO...Pondering Her Percy wrote: No you're right. He was actually a center in college. Not in the NFL but that could definitely be a possibility. I wouldn't mind that and then sign or draft a good LG because Fusco definitely seems out of his element at LG

He has. He played RT but with Phil back I can't see us putting him there. That is my thing though, I don't think you can move Harris with the way he has played this season. I really hope we do re-sign him.PurpleMustReign wrote: Hasn't Harris played other positions before? Although, he has had a very good season, so maybe you don't want to move him out of where he is at...
Can Kalil play LG?
As for Kalil, I have no clue. He's never played anything other than LT. Could be another risky move.

Re: PHP's "Way Too Early But I Love It" 2016 Mock Offseason
I agree about Berger. He was really bad when he first got in there but really turned it on since. Clemmings is a complete liability but I'm not too worried about that because he is young and provides depth. I truly think that Fusco's switch to LG hurt him. He's not the same player. I think it would boil down to who would be cheaper between him and Harris because they have both been good RG's. Do we keep Fusco at that contract and switch him back to RG and let Harris walk OR do we keep Harris at a possibly cheaper price than Fusco and let Fusco go. I think one of those two has to happen and I would lean more towards keeping Harris. I'm GUESSING that Fusco's bad play is due to his switch but it could be because that injury hampered him more than we think. Harris is more of a sure thing right now so thats why I say keep him. Kinda stinks because I really like Fusco but we might be forced to let him go.PurpleMustReign wrote: And, Berger has done quite well this season too... Clemmings has been a LT, maybe since he has left side experience, move him inside to Guard. Move Fusco to Center and leave Harris at RG. I am sure that the team has already tried something similar but didn't for whatever reason.
Saw a recent mock draft and OG Vadal Alexander of LSU is projected to us. Smart projected pick.

Well they tried Clemmings at guard in training camp and then put him back at tackle so my guess is, he was pretty bad there. That could be the other scenario though, moving Fusco to center, leaving Harris at RG and letting Sully go.IIsweet wrote:Clemmings has been a LT, maybe since he has left side experience, move him inside to Guard. Alexander would be a pretty good pick. I actually had us taking him in like the 3rd round of one of my mocks last year because I thought he would come out as a junior but he ended up staying.
I don't know how I feel about taking an OL in the first though. This is a pretty loaded class for offensive lineman. Possibly one of the best in recent years. Don't rule out Ryan Kelly if we let Sully walk too. He is the center at Alabama who runs the same zone blocking scheme Norv runs. This was a big reason we went after Shepard last year. Kelly is projected anywhere from rounds 2-4

doesn't turner run more of a man based blocking? i know o line coach davidson has coached both
Re: PHP's "Way Too Early But I Love It" 2016 Mock Offseason
i wonder how our line would have looked it we would have just taken a flyer on la'el collins with one of our 7th rd picks. he played very well for dallas as their left guard.
Re: PHP's "Way Too Early But I Love It" 2016 Mock Offseason
Considering he's only allowed one pressure this season I'd imagine we would've been better off.slapnut19 wrote:i wonder how our line would have looked it we would have just taken a flyer on la'el collins with one of our 7th rd picks. he played very well for dallas as their left guard.

Has Fusco ever played C? This could be interesting if he does have the ability to play C. I agree that his switch to LG has really hurt him.Pondering Her Percy wrote: Well they tried Clemmings at guard in training camp and then put him back at tackle so my guess is, he was pretty bad there. Should be a very interesting offseason wrt the OL. Lots of questions that need to be answered:
1. Will Sully retire and if not, will he ever return to form? Backs are tricky. And Berger has been serviceable but isn't a long term answer
2. Same question on Loadholt. Granted, the Achilles injury isn't AS concerning as the back, but its still a bad injury and he's not getting any younger. And Clemmings clearly isn't the answer.
3. Fusco really didn't pan out at LG. Can he be moved back to RG? What to do with Fusco
4. Harris - how much are they willing to pay him? Do the Vikings view him as a long term solution at RG?
5. Kalil - He's played much better this year, but do the Vikings have enough confidence to extend him to a long term deal??
Basically, big ???? at each of the 5 positions. should be an interesting offseason here
Re: PHP's "Way Too Early But I Love It" 2016 Mock Offseason
That would have been, ummmm, a publicity nightmare though right after the AD stuff.
As for the team, a great pick though ! No doubt about it.
I have to agree with PHP that this seems like a really good OL class. Allowing us to target another top player at a position of need. LB, S, and WR seems to be popular choice.
Btw, seeing Boyd as high as to us with our 1st all the way down to the 3rd round.
Seems to be a lot of OG talent, which we may need. I think that Spielman has to take a real good look and prepare to not have Sully and even Loadholt. Although, wasn't Loadholt in a contract year? Huge leverage to the team in contrac negotiations.
Is Clemmings a future starting OT? Is Harris a starting OG? We traded for a center, is he going to contribute?
Lots of questions but mostly centered around the OL.
Next, what do you think we do with the WR position?

Re: PHP's "Way Too Early But I Love It" 2016 Mock Offseason
This is bowl season, and I think those games are largely teams that I know little about. After all, the prospects reflect the kinds of discussion that has gone on all season regarding some of the issues the current team faces. Watching with an eye to possible draft prospects makes it more tun.
For me, it does not minimize the excitement about the Vikings game on Sunday night.

Had an interesting thought.
Would you trade AD to Denver for Demariyus Thomas ?
They have comparable salary cap hits, I think? But solves a huge need for us and Denver is tired of the dropsies.
AD brings an amazing RB to Kubiak and he and Elway understand the importance.
Can use any salary cap money to target immediate starters.
Obviously we would be releasing Sullivan and Loadholt and Wallace
Then trade up to get WR Laquan Treadwell.
Imagine a 3 WR set of DT, Diggs, and Treadwell !!!
Obviously, I want to ride AD to the SB..... But I am more a Viking fan than I am an AD fan.
Just a thought

Living in Colorado, I watch all of the Bronco games and would never even consider such a trade. Thomas has taken two steps back from last year and has dropped many clutch passes this year. He is a good WR but no way would they want to swap AD for him. OBTW, why on earth would the Vikings want to trade AD anywayIIsweet wrote:Had an interesting thought.

Re: PHP's "Way Too Early But I Love It" 2016 Mock Offseason
I agree. Other mock offseasons I have seen all have AP getting traded. Last year, I had him getting traded which is a little more understandable given the circumstances of what was going on but he has proved that 30 is just a number. There is no way I would trade him this offseasonPurple bruise wrote: Living in Colorado, I watch all of the Bronco games and would never even consider such a trade. Again, just a thought. I highly doubt that they do something like this, but it was a fun 3 minutes that I thought about it.
The next part of that was the trade up for WR Treadwell.
To me, that could be a real opportunity there.
