Rarely do I agree with Demi's (at times) harsh cynicism, yet I couldnt agree more here. Your just flat out wrong on this one php, hunter has not only impressed coaches to the point of getting in the rotation with the one's throughout the preseason, he has been dominant. I did a detailed analysis of every snap he took so far and to say that the kid has been phenomenally dominant would not be an egregious misrepresentation.
He had the most hurries on our team in preseason, and was second in hurries while getting first team reps.
I really am confounded to find these plays where you say he is "struggling against third teamers"
Learn defensive schematics, even on passing downs, a DE's ssignment is not always pure pass rush, sometimes they have to stay home, fill gaps, read chip routes, contain etc.. Maybe try understanding the game of football before throwing out misguided inaccurate criticisms.
Fact is, the writings on the wall for b Rob. Our staff loves hunter, and thinks well enough of trattou and Crichton to keep 5 DE's.
Show me these so called plays where he "struggles"
I'll wait
Oh so now we want to classify hurries as good plays? Because last year myself and others brought up how Robison was getting plenty of hurries and Demi and some others jumped down my throat saying hurries were nothing but "almost making a play" and they weren't buying it. So answer me that.
Once again, I never defended Robison. I don't have plays written out where he struggled. I'm simply saying he didn't impress me a whole lot in the preseason and has no right to start right now considering how young and raw he is. He just doesn't seem like he is ready to start by any means. How often does a 3rd round 20 year old DE come in and take over for a veteran day 1?? I'll give you that answer. Pretty much never. From what I've seen in these games, I just haven't seen enough out of him.

And when they finally did, they saw what I was seeing the entire season. He's a liability. He doesn't have the size/physicality to do what he's being asked to do. He seems to have added mass this offseason, and still can't do the job.
He was drafted to play in a cover 2, we brought in a new defensive system. And he's hurting the team in it. Week 1, watch him. The GM signed/extended him for a different system, and we're paying for it. There are backup defensive tackles who could do his job better.
Yes, it took a while but you finally got us to focus on Robison. Nobody had noticed his struggles until you enlightened us!

You act like he loses us games. He was bad last year but it's not like he's the worst DE ever. He had a lot of hurries last year.....oh wait....that doesnt count in your book.

I'm simply saying, I don't feel Hunter is anywhere close to being ready to start. Down the road? Yeah maybe. I hope the same for Crichton as well but to say "he should be starting over Robison" just makes no sense. I mean wouldnt you think that if Zimmer thought Robison was THAT big of a liability he would either start Hunter or Crichton week 1?? But....he's not and I trust Zimmer a lot more than any fan

I would agree they need some time, especially Hunter. I think Justin Tratou(sp) 94 is the closest DE in starting play ability.
When I mentioned replacement I was thinking one more season.

I'll second that, a lot of people were PISSED about the pick, given our holes on the o-line and elsewhere but this is why you always want to go BPA if you can in a draft. This kid looks like he could be pretty special.

Doesn't look like Robison is a "liablilty" in this defense that's for sure.

It's funny looking back at what fans "thought" they knew about Hunter on the first page. He was definitely raw coming out and didn't do much early on but the future is starting to look bright now. Right on with what I said about Zimmer coaching him up in the OP.
I originally wanted Tre Jackson which would've been a good pick too because I believe he is starting at guard for NE right now. Either way, I'm happy with Hunter. Good depth pick to take over for Robison in a year or two

Its exciting that the weakness outlined in the draft write up at the start of this thread, says that his weakness is pass rushing!!!
This kid has A LOT of upside, and i for one am very excited to see him on the field more often.
