beating the pack on the road to win the division would be huge. my only concern would be the coaches and players being a little to high emotionally after that win and falling flat at home the next week. on the flip side they could gain momentum from the win and go farther than we all could have imagined. weirder things have happened. it's going to be a fun ride for sure.

No. Packers would not have to lose out for us to knock them out of the playoffs. If they finish the 3 seed and we get the 6 we play them in the wild card. It is actually pretty likely. (Well at least us playing them in the wild card)

i think they meant knock them out of the playoffs altogether. it's not likely, but their two road games vs arizona and oakland are far from gimmes. fyi i'll be at the packer raider game this sunday. wifes a packer fan and we are driving up from san diego to watch them for one of her xmas presents. i'll be a big raider fan that day for sure.

Ok I totally missed what they meant on that one. As long as we can end there season it would be sweet. But either way it's looking like we will have our chances to beat them with pretty large stakes at least once in the next few weeks.

I actually missed part of it, if the Packers lost out and the Bucaneers won out they would take the 6 seed.

Not true. If the Packers win the division at 10-6 or 11-5 they would get the 3 seed. The Vikings would then need to get the 6 (which is almost a guarantee due to the loss to Seattle). They would then play at Lambeau in the first game of the playoffs. Unless the scenario you were describing would be for the Vikings to play the Packers in the NFCC Game in Lambeau?

If the Packers lose two of the next three, including week 17, and the Seahawks win out, the Packers would be the last seed and play the Vikings back to back.

I was misunderstanding the original question. I was taking it as "how can the Vikings play the Packers at Lambeau in the playoffs" not "how can the Vikings keep the Packers from making the playoffs."

My bad.

Man if Tampa Bay somehow made it in the playoffs over us, I would throw up. They look awful

At this point, the only scenario that would allow this is for us to lose out and for TB to win their final 2 games. Then we'd be 5-7 in the conf. and they'd be 7-5 in the conf. and we'd both be 8-8. There's a fair chance both of us would be out of the playoffs in this scenario, but possibly that would allow them in and us out.

One more NFC win against the bears this week (coupled with losses by WAS and NYG) would clinch us at least the 6 seed. One step at a time. Every best case scenario begins with a win. With NYG playing CAR and WAS plaiying BUF, that's a fair chance to happen. I would feel so much better playing the final 2 games with nothing to lose.

If we lose against CHI on Sunday every scenario suddenly turns ugly.

If NYG beats CAR, then the NYG game becomes really big (regardless if we win or lose on Sunday). A loss to NYG would give them a wild card tie breaker over us should we end up tied with them-- which can only happen if they get 2 more wins than us over the final 3 games. But if NYG beats CAR and then us, it could mean a must-win at Lambeau to avoid elimination. Of course if NYG wins those 2 then they may win the east outright, making the whole problem moot.

SO-- I'm a MIN fan this weekend but also a CAR fan as well as a BUF fan. If those 3 games all go the right way it will be a much nicer Christmas. With that scenario, the only teams that can reach 9-7 (apart from AZ/CAR) are GB, SEA, MIN, ATL, and PHI. If PHI ends 9-7, they win the east and MIN wins the tie against ATL so we'd be in regardless of what happens in the final two weeks. We could tank the last 2 games (not that we should, but we *could*), and get healthy and put all our effort into the wildcard game in Lambeau.

Winning the final 3 games and getting beaten up even further would only possibly buy us a home game against either SEA or GB. Otherwise we have a road game against GB or possibly the EAST winner. I'd rather be healthy in the playoffs than be injured and have a home game. Odds of going deeper into the playoffs increase I think.

@eric_j_thompson #Vikings now clinch the playoffs Sunday if these three conditions are met:
1. Win vs. CHI
2. WAS or NYG loss
3. ATL or SEA loss
@eric_j_thompson If ATL/MIN/SEA all finish 9-7 w/ SEA win this week, #Vikings are odd team out in 3-way tiebreaker. In a 3 way tie it's common games. Believe me guys I did the research, this very unlikely scenario is possible.

ugh-- that's a nasty scenario I didn't think would be possible. I really don't see how we would be odd man out in this scenario, but 3 way ties are a bit odd. So we need ATL to lose one more game out of the next 3-- with 2 divisional games that seems a bit likely. Also SEA winning at least 2 also seems a bit likely. However, ATL losing to JAX this weekend seems like a bit much to ask for as doe a SEA loss to CLE, so looks like a bit of a tall order to clinch this weekend after all. Bummer.

I find this incredibly stupid, how can ATL, who we beat, have the tiebreaker over us?
