@GoesslingESPN: Per @FieldYates, the #Vikings tried out four players today: DB Ri¹Shard Anderson, TE Brian Leonhardt, DB CJ Roberts, LB Jordan Tripp

It came up in a previous posting but I would say the two or three guys we drop when price and the other
comes back are.

Captain (I get the feeling him and the coaches don't get along to well)
Sherels is only the team because of return ability
and Newman (lacks speed to cover faster wide outs)

Not to start a flame war for his fans, but I think we can drop Zach Line to the PS without much chance that someone will sign him to their active roster.

I think Newman's contract (as with all long term vets) is guaranteed for the full season at this stage, now that he's on an active roster at season's beginning, so I don't think we'll be dropping him.

I hated seeing Mauti cut. He will go to the Saints and hopefully have a great career.

I doubt it. This is from a Star Tribune article published last month:

But basic logic suggests the Vikings didn’t keep two fullbacks on the roster all last year so they could dump Zach Line before the 2015 season. They liked the guy so much that they carried him on the active roster when more than one team put in claims that prevented the Vikings from moving him to the practice squad.

Does this have anything to do with Price returning? I would have thought Thompson on IR wouldn't count against the roster.

He was released outright without an injury settlement, indicating he was over his concussion. The Vikings obviously didn't want to make room for him on their practice squad. FWIW, of the 10 practice squad spots there are only two offensive linemen on it (G David Yankey, G Isame Faciane)

Practice squad:

DE B.J. Dubose
G Isame Faciane
WR Isaac Fruechte
S Anthony Harris
DL Zach Moore
LB Brian Peters
FB Blake Renaud
LB Brandon Watts
RB Dominique Williams
G David Yankey

Indeed. I guess the silver lining to this demonstrates to all the Jim's out there  that, hey, we have some depth now! Depth that another team thinks is good enough to steal. That's kind of fun. At least for one position group, anyway. But it's one that we were all sitting here last year saying was awful at top-end talent and depth and now it seems to be pretty decent all around. That feels...unnatural.
