I think I'm with you on La'El Collins.

My ONLY reasoning (which is about as far from fool-proof as you can get) is that the NFL has had so much go wrong for it lately in terms of its image that things can't possibly get any worse. This CAN'T be another football player who killed someone...right?! RIGHT?!

I say roll the damn dice! :D

I'm in on Randy Gregory, if we decide to go that route. I think.

Maybe I'm too deeply into a team-building mentality now but I just think they'll have a golden opportunity to get a "plug and play" guard in R2 and since they don't even have a clear starter at LG right now, they'd be foolish to pass it up. They drafted Bridgewater last year and they love him. They've been insistent about wanting to keep Peterson, presumably because they think he can really help them take a step forward this year. To me, improving the biggest weakness on the team last year (OL) and getting someone to help protect and pave the way for Teddy and AD just makes too much sense.

That said, there's always more than one way to solve a problem and if they want to get risky and draft one of the players you mentioned above, they could might be able to stay risky and draft Collins later. If luck is on their side, they might end up with great players and great value. If not, it will be a glorious mess. :)

@JohnMiddlekauff 3rd rounder gets it done I think @JohnRLundy do you think someone trades the Eagles a 2nd for mychael Kendricks?
Pick up the phone, Rick. La'el Collins in R2, Mychael Kendricks for a third. Money.

I'd be one satisfied Vikings fan if this came to fruition. That's essentially three more first-rounders IMO.

1. Trae Waynes (#11 overall pick)
2. La'el Collins (top-20 overall pick if not for his situation)
3. Mychael Kendricks (former 46th overall but likely would've been a first-rounder this year)

CB, LG, ILB: all three high-priority holes filled with high-upside picks in one draft.

@MasterStrib Spielman said he expects a lot more trades in Day 2 #Vikings #NFLDraft
@christomasson Mike Zimmer: "It's hard to find really good corners in the draft now... For us to get a guy with size, which is important to me..big heart''

Lance Zierlein's second round mock headline:

Round 2 NFL mock draft: Vikings get Dorial Green-Beckham
45. Minnesota Vikings -- Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Missouri
Teddy Bridgewater gets a boom-or-bust deep threat with the ability to come in and help right away.

I'd be beyond surprised. With the way Rick and Zimmer were preaching "character" at Trae Wayne's presser today that wouldn't make a lot of sense.

I agree. It doesn't seem likely at all.

@RapSheet La’El Collins’ reps tell me if he’s not selected in rounds 2 or 3, he’ll not sign a contract with NFL team & resubmit his name for ’16 draft
AlbertBreer Seems like a really, really weird decision by Collins' people.

Money talks...especially when it's millions of dollars. I bet someone takes a gamble tonight.

It is a bit strange but I assume it's a financial decision. They're probably figuring if he doesn't go in the first 3 rounds this year, he can declare again next year, hopefully go earlier, and get a richer contract.

Or they're hoping he goes undrafted so he can be a rookie free agent where he can sign a contract not bound by the rookie wage scale.

Nah, sounds right to me, I want Cann or whoever their highest rated guard is. I think that pick has the potential to make by far the biggest impact for us not only because we obviously need a LG but I think a good player there could also help with Kalil's problems. For whatever reason him and Charlie Johnson just didn't work well together and changing that pairing up (well johnson's gone so it's gonna happen anyway) could be a two birds with one stone kind of thing.

I have my moments, few and far between, but they're there. :P

It does preclude taking a 6th or 7th round flier on him, unless you think he's bluffing. Which I can't say for sure. If he waits a year he likely won't go 1st round or maybe even 2nd round due to the out of sight out of mind factor. I wonder what the difference financially between a round 3 and a round 6 contract would be?
