Interesting passage from Goodell:
Doesn't sound like this is over.
Who leaked the letter? I'm guessing in order of probablity:
1) NFLPA
2) Dogra
3) NFL
4) Peterson
5) Kevin Warren
I really don't know the purpose of the leaked letter. Warren would be an idiot if he leaked it, just because there's no reason for him to have it in the first place and it'd be such an invasion of privacy and just a dick move. No way. I just can't see a good reason anyone would leak it. Am I missing something?

Maybe it's just me but it seems like Goodell continues to overstep the boundaries of a sports league commissioner's role. He seems to be sticking his nose deeper into Peterson's parenting business than it belongs. Peterson has publicly (and, if the letter is to believed, privately) stated that his views on parental discipline have changed and he continues to engage in therapy. Maybe the Commish should leave the rest to the therapist(s) and just focus on the league/player aspects of this.

My guess is the league leaked it because it reinforces that Goodell is being tough on Peterson, despite reinstating him. It's likely an NFL PR move that says, "Don't misconstrue this action. We're still taking this seriously"

I fully agree. I think it may be wanting to show how serious of a stance the league is taking things after the black eye it got for how it handled/bungled things last season. "Look at how tough we are. Follow the rules or you're banished!"

I think that's it exactly. Goodell is covering his behind, basically saying, "Well, beloved corporate sponsors and fans, I'm not sure about this but we all know I can't keep this guy on my special list forever so I'm reinstating him but don't worry, ol' Roger will banish him but good if he screws up! The NFL cares."

that's hitting the nail on the head. I lost all respect for Goodell on this issue. He's a goof.

Look at the bottom of the letter. Warren was one of the four CCs.

There'd be absolutely no advantage to leaking this from the Vikings. I suppose I could see this being leaked by Peterson's agent and then blaming it on the Vikings organization as another reason why his client can't trust them. But that's going into tin foil hat territory.

Goodell's letter was leaked to Aaron Katersky (never heard of him). Checked his bio. He's an ABC Radio News correspondent based in NYC covering military affairs and terrorism. No sports reporting anywhere in his bio. Seems unlikely that Dogra or the NFLPA would have connections with this guy. NFLPA's HQ is in Washington DC.
NFL HQ is in Manhattan. Katersky is based in Manhattan. The NFL has been a sieve for leaks about guys not passing drug tests so in this case I guess I'd say this leak is probably coming from one of Goodell's minions. Of course we'll never know.
