Great quote from Polian but the headline seems a bit misleading. Thanks for the link.

Agreed. It's the editors that write the headlines and in this case I suspect Mark Craig would rather have a different headline to go with his story.

I found this Polian comment a bit odd:
“Could you make a trade for anybody on the clock? Of course you can. But the question of whether or not that player will report is another issue. And that’s unknowable at this time. I would be, as a general manager, I would be very wary given what’s gone on up to this point that he would report and honor that contract. I would have concerns about that if I were trying to make a trade.”
If the Vikings are truly interested in trading Peterson it seems to me they have to have negotiations wrapped-up ahead of the draft because I cannot envision a scenario where the acquiring team would not want to restructure Peterson's contract immediately after trading for him. First agree on the trade compensation and then give permission for that team to contact Peterson to see if he wants to play for them and what restructuring terms he would agree with. I assume any negotiations would also be contingent on a certain player being available. For example, we agree to trade Peterson to Arizona for the #24 overall pick as long as Todd Gurley is still on the board (or some other position player that we covet).

The problem is if the terms are leaked to the media in advance of the draft. Any other teams interested in pursuing Peterson would then be able to adjust their offer.

Let the re-courting begin. Why would the Vikings really want to get rid of AP? There is still tread left on the tires and his value although high, the price to acquire him may not be a value for most teams. If the Vikings seek to trade him, I am sure that some team will like to have him but at what price?

There are only two reason why the Vikings would trade for AP

1) They get an offer they can refuse (multiple firsts, young impact player, etc)
2) AP convinces them that he will never play again if he remains on the Vikings roster

Both of those seem unlikely (although I would like the first) I expect him to remain a VIking

I'm not at all convinced those are the only two options. The Vikings have been really good at controlling their information and messaging over the last few years. There is very little information that comes out of the organization that they didn't WANT to come out.

None of us know what's going on, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Vikings are convinced this is the best time to move on from AP and definitely plan to trade him, or if they are all in on keeping him on the team for the next three years and it would take a crazy offer to pry him loose.

While it can be frustrating for fans, its a good thing for the organization how disciplined they have become in their communication to the media.

Personally I would trade Adrian Peterson and Matt Kalil for Tyron Smith. Then draft Scherff if he is available at 11 to play LG and possibly, eventually, RT.

That would be a Road Grading OL.

I doubt the cowboys would make that deal.

THAT would be a great deal, but I doubt the other team is that desperate.

Peterson has a chance to be reinstated today, doesn't he? I imagine there almost certainly won't be a trade until that happens.

Yeah, today is the first day he'd be eligible but most media and "insiders" don't believe anything will happen today. Hopefully he's officially re-instated before the draft.

I wonder what will happen if Goodell don't reinstate him til after the draft, citing Peterson didn't meet his demands for remorse etc.... blah blah. I think that would almost guarantee him playing in minny next year.

You have given up on Kalil waaaay to soon my friend, he will back playing at a pro bowl level IMO and you can bank on that fact. The Cowboys would jump all over that deal which could/would never happen.
I would not settle for anything close to that. Maybe AD for Tyron Smith but that's about it. I would trade him to them for a 1st and 2nd round picks though.

I can see a "Friday News Dump" coming with Peterson's reinstatement. When companies, politicians, etc. want to bury news that they don't want to talk about they usually do it late Friday when the media and general public is not paying attention. I don't think the NFL wants to talk about Peterson so a Friday News Dump seems like a nice fit in this situation.

When the announcement comes I expect it will include a provision that allows Peterson to recoup one of the three game checks he forfeited last year. This would bring it in compliance with Judge Doty's ruling that the punishment must correspond with the prior Personal Conduct Policy (where two games was set as the maximum for first timers). Even though the NFL has appealed Doty's ruling ... that ruling is both binding and controlling until the Appeals Court rules on the matter.

We are 15 days from the draft. If the NFL drags its feet on this past the draft, then they are just intentionally screwing with the Vikings, Peterson and the NFLPA.

Interesting enough, Tyron Smith played mostly RT at USC because he got beat out of the job... by Matt Kalil.

Evidently the vikings don't agree with you, or they would have picked up his option. He's donzo in MN after this season.
