Adrian Peterson Reinstated

Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
The whole situation soured me on the Vikings and the whole NFL last year. It would make me feel better all around if they would trade him away, and get decent compensation in return. And for me, that would be a 2nd round pick, or a couple 3rd rounders or something like that. I don't feel they can get a 1st round pick for a 30 year old RB, when nobody is willing to use 1st round picks on the best RBs coming out of college. If they keep him, and he is able to play 16 games, or even close to that, and the media doesn't turn our whole next season into a continuation of the drama that went on all year long.
I do think that the Vikings were working with the NFL in the background to try to keep him off the field. Its just opinion, but people in the NFL have very loose lips when it comes to things like this, and insiders are getting that info and his Agent is reacting in ways that is consistent to finding out. Its just my opinion, but I got the feeling that the Vikings just wanted to distance themselves away from this thing as much as they could while the flames died down. And now that its no longer the hot topic of discussion, they are coming back with the oven mits on, and trying to salvage the relationship.
For me though, which ever way it falls, I would just like the decision to be made quickly and without more drama. Its hard to continue to be a die hard fan when your fav players are doing things you don't agree with, and you don't trust the organization/team that you support handled the situation the best. Time to move forward.. with or without AP.

Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
If we're playing the hypothetical trade game, I'd need a pick higher than the Cardinals' second-rounder (#55), but that just me. So it'd require #55 plus something else. The best case may be Tampa Bay, who I've seen rumored to still have interest (and cap space). #34 would get it done for me, but that may be wishful thinking.Vikings28 wrote:

@ KSViking: I like your take, and agree 100%. It appears to me that AD doesn't want to be a Viking and if that is the case, it's time to move on. The key for me is to not rush it. We hold all the leverage, so I like that the FO seems to be taking a deliberate approach to the situation to maximize the return.
And from the "As the World Turns" file, here's the latest drama:
And from the "As the World Turns" file, here's the latest drama:
http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Repo ... meet032015On Friday, a report surfaced that Peterson's agent, presumably Dogra (though the former NFL MVP has a team of agents) has refused a meeting request made by Vikings general manager Rick Spielman for next week's owner's meetings in Arizona.
Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
If the Cardinals offer is the best they can do, I'd probably take it and move on. Goessling said the Vikings are rumoured to be seeking a 2nd round pick and an additional piece. Say you can get #55 and and #120 from the Cardinals (maybe the Vikings throw in a late pick too), I don't think that would be too bad. Spielman would have a bit more ammunition to move up as well with the extra pick. He was able to move #40 and #108 for #32 last year. Trading #55 and another pick could probably get them into the 40's. Not quite #34 but still pretty good.dead_poet wrote: If we're playing the hypothetical trade game, I'd need a pick higher than the Cardinals' second-rounder (#55), but that just me. I agree. I would be upset if he was traded for #55...

Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
True, but if we trade him, we are getting something close to as valuable, and that is free cap space. We don't know what sort of player we would be able to get with that much extra room. But, the longer we wait to get this resolved, the less likely we are to get the players we want. Maybe we can roll our cap savings into next year, or use it to extend contracts of Smith, or someone else with contract coming up soon. Also, if we don't do it this year, we will be back here next year in the same boat, with even a bigger price tag connected. I think everyone will be disappointed with what compensation we initially get, but there are underlying things that make it palatable for me. Nothing better than small man syndrome.
Seriously all of this is getting old. Just ready for something to happen. Would love to see him back for performance reasons. The distractions are just getting tiring.

Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
I think we should play the ultimate version of hard ball with Peterson. Don't trade him unless the Cardinals will give us their first round pick.
If all we're being offered is 2nd-3rd rd picks then tell Adrian that he can either play for us, or not play at all. This whole situation is ridiculous, and he's acting like someone with no sense of perspective and zero self-awareness. Also, the NFL wants to see from him some sense of understanding for what his actions have done. By blaming things on the Vikings and now trying to force their hand, he is not doing himself any favors in terms of how he's viewed by the league.
IMO, his choices should be:
A) Play for the Vikings
B) Get the Cardinals to deal their 1st rd pick for him
C) Not play at all

Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
Yeah the cap space is very valuable but I don't think it comes close to helping as much as a fresh AD does in 2015. If this was done at the start of free agency then it'd make more sense but as of now, let's just say I'm happy that the front office is trying to reach out and keep him here for now. But you're right, down the road we'd basically be able to sign any FA we want next year with that adrian money so something to think about.KSViking wrote: True, but if we trade him, we are getting something close to as valuable, and that is free cap space. Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
Or everything their side needs to say has been said. And there's nothing more to discuss. So it's either move him, he sits out, or he reports to a team he wants nothing to do with. Weee. Who loses? Our favorite team! Let's blame the agent. The only thing I can think of is that Dogra was trying to force Peterson's release.
As far as a "fresh" AD coming back and showing everyone? I think it's just as likely a *rusty* AD comes back and blows out his knee trying to show everyone.

So tired of the self-entitled, ####-like attitude Peterson and his agent continue to display. He is trying to whine his way out of town. I hope this team stands pat and makes his #### stay in Minnesota or retire.

Re: Adrian Peterson (not) Reinstated
i'm not sure what planet peterson or his agent are on. in what lifetime could they possibly think any other team in the nfl will pay peterson what the vikings are willing to give him? the fact that we haven't asked him to adjust his contract is just as shocking as this whole debacle (which is exactly what this has become). if he doesn't want to be here then get rid of him. the same could be said about any employee who doesn't want to work for a certain company or boss anymore. i'm not sure if the longer this drags on is good or bad for us, because now it is obvious he no longer wants to be a viking.

@GoesslingESPN: Thought continued meetings between AP, Vikings were a good sign. But those have stopped. Was told today Peterson wants to play elsewhere.
