Well, Bridgewater had 40 pass attempts over 20+ yards for roughly 11%, Rodgers had 48 pass attempts over 20+ yards for about 10%. Luck was 12%, Brees 8% and Payton Manning 9%. 10% is right in line with other QBS. Now, maybe they were talking about his completion percentage which was low for passes over 20+ yards at 32%.

The contract/playing time these guys get won't be enough to net us anything more than a late round pick, at most. And that's if they decide not to sign anyone.

There have been better years to worry about comp picks. And they didn't seem too concerned. Not signing free agents to get a 7th round pick or two from these guys wouldn't be worth the effort.

Could be completion percentage, but the way it was said seemed to indicate pass attempts vs the league. Here's the verbiage:

- Jerome Felton signed a 4 year / $9,200,000 contract with the Buffalo Bills, including a $2,600,000 signing bonus, $3,600,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $2,300,000.

- Jasper Brinkley signed a 2 year / $6,500,000 contract with the Dallas Cowboys, including a $1,250,000 signing bonus, $2,000,000 guaranteed, and an annual average salary of $3,250,000.

Brinkley is the 24th highest paid MLB/ILB in the NFL by average annual salary. Felton is the 4th highest paid FB in the NFL by average annual salary. That means they are both being paid starter money, relative to their peers. Nothing spectacular, but not chicken scratch either. These two will both likely be starters. So decent money and a good amount of playing time.

Ponder and now Vlad Ducasse are obviously not making much coin, and neither of them will see the field much (if at all, if the Bears and Raiders are fortunate). That said, both of them should still factor into the formula. Nick Eason netted the Steelers a 7th round pick in 2012 for a contract worth $992,000 annually (he started six games and had 12 tackles).

I'm not trying to argue that we're going to get a 3rd round pick here. But draft picks are valuable regardless. It'd be irresponsible on Spielman and Co.'s part to say it's not even worth paying attention to the ramifications of UFA and compensatory picks this year. Yeah, if something comes up and they really want someone, by all means, they shouldn't let the compensatory pick formula hold them back. But looking at post June 1st signings and street free agents, both of which don't affect the formula? By all means they should explore those options. Every pick is a lottery ticket, and even if the odds are long, there's always a chance they get a solid piece with the compensatory pick they received.

If they don't get any compensatory picks, I hope it's because they signed some quality players at low cost, who they really believed could help our team for more than a year or two, not because they took a flyer on a guy who was overpaid and cut two years later.

They won't be getting one this year, we didn't have a net loss of UFAs last year. I think we signed five an lost five and you could cancel each one we lost out with a similar contract of one we signed.

I am really starting to lean towards Scherff or Bud Dupree - I think Dupree can be a monster defensive end in our scheme, while Scherff would just be a blue collar pick, and I think we could really use him. I believe he's going to be a very good interior lineman for some time.

I also want to learn more about the safeties in this draft. Trading down a bit from 11 and picking one up might be worth it.

EDIT: arghhh Trae Waynes is an exciting possibility too

I keep gravitating towards Waynes also. Two stout corners improves your D-line by granting them more time to get to QB.

The same can be said about Dline getting to QB faster improves secondary, but its easier to find quality pass rushers than quality corners imo.
