Don't see us drafting a wide receiver @ 11 and look for us to draft an OL or BPA on defense.
I think the price was so low because we have to eat a pretty big contract. I'll be interested if we did the 5th for 7th thing in order to keep the same number of draft picks, in case we end up cutting Wallace early on before his salary actually kicks in. Restructuring? I'd hope, but I don't think it's going to happen. I hear there's a $3 million roster bonus salary guarantee for him coming soon. I certainly don't want to cut Jennings to make room cap-wise for Wallace. It's not bad to have both of them for $5 million each, but unless we just have no other options for spending cash, I'm not sure I like the two of them for twice that.
It seems unimaginable that we choose a WR at #11 now. I can't even imagine choosing one anywhere in the draft if all those guys are still on the roster come May.
This seems like it could open up DGB or Devin Funchess in the second round. Especially Funchess since he really is just a freakish TE. Him and Rudolph would be a nice pairing. Matchup nightmares all over if AP stays.
Wallace and johnson on the outside and Jennings in the slot where he is at his best. Throw in Rudolph blazing down the seam(lol) and we might just have something.

Getting rid of Patterson would be monumentally stupid at this point. Too much natural talent. I don't know about the other coaches, but unless he's lying, Zimmer put Patterson on an off-season plan and is pleased with the results. Speaking of bad attitudes (and I don't think CP has one), what about Wallace? If Wallace had a hissy fit about being traded to Minnesota (as has been reported), that's not a good sign.
Jarious Wright is a very good 3rd WR. I believe he will stay.
I totally agree with you, Craig. I don't understand the trade for Wallace given how badly his production declined once he got the big FA contract in Miami. Further, this move hardly cements the Vikings at WR, nor does/should it mean they don't look at WR at #11 if, say, Amari Cooper somehow falls that far. Wallace certainly has the raw ability to contribute, but the fact the Vikes only had to part with a 5th rounder (and got a 7th) says quite a bit about how Miami valued him at this point. To suggest this makes Patterson expendable is a stretch unless the Vikings really don't like something about the guy. Based on Zimmer's recent comments regarding Patterson's offseason work, that isn't consistent.
I think the more likely explanation here is that Jennings is the guy the Vikings aren't sure about. If they're going to pay around $10 mil at WR, may as well invest that in a player with some speed. In fact, I don't see a scenario where both Jennings and Wallace are on the team come opening day. I just don't see how Spielman could possibly justify $20 million invested in two veteran WRs.

Your last sentence in specific is what I'm talkin bout.
Given that Jennings and TB should have more in common this coming season and that Jennings routes are right in TB's wheelhouse...I hope they get a chance to connect, especially given that Peterson looms as a huge asset for the pass game.
Being that TB has displayed tendencies to struggle with accuracy on the deep throws makes me hesitant to think that Wallace is a given to bust out for this offense. Still if AD is back there it will give more time to throw the ball too.

I think the idea is that Wallace's lack of production in Miami is tied more to the QB than to him. Tannnehill had a hard time getting the ball to him.
Vikings fan since Nov. 6, 1966. Annoying Packer fans since Nov. 7, 1966
The amount of guesswork this move has triggered is interesting!
As I see it, the Vikes options are still wide open at WR. With Bridgewater playing on a rookie contract and Hill backing him up, the team has much less invested at QB than teams with established QBs and that alone gives them increased flexibility to spend. They could ask Jennings and/or Wallace to restructure or they could conceivably just pay up for a year.
I don't think this trade necessarily impacts the immediate future of Jennings or Patterson, nor does it preclude drafting a WR. Thielen and Wright may have more reason to be nervous...
This is a move that could help balance out the WR corps and give Turner's offense the deep threat he obviously likes to utilize. If they are able to bring Peterson back, Wallace's deep speed could become very valuable and make defenses think twice about loading the box. In fact, I wonder if this move might sway Peterson a little...
To the guys suggesting that Tannehill is weak armed or a checkdown master: How do you explain him having over 4000yds passing with a 66+ completion percentage... and, I think, 27tds too?
----
Actually until today on this board I've read and heard nothing but good things about him as a QB on the uptick.

I think more factors went into Wallace's numbers like facing Revis Island twice last year and the emergence of Jarvis Landry.
Don't hate on my Buckeyes. Some of the best Vikings went to Ohio State.
Including now, HOF WR #80 Cris Carter

Why would be thrilled? He never wanted to be here in The first place lol. But whatever now, he is under contract.
Anyway, Minnesota will have to pay him his huge contract. Wallace is a big upgrade to our WR corps. Let's just hope this does not blow up in our faces. Skol vikings.

Tannehill 6.9 YPA, which paying close attention for fantasy purposes, I can't believe its that high. I played him a lot in the latter half of the season on daily fantasy sites. Weeks 9-16 he averaged 6.3 YPA.
Teddy averaged 8.4 YPA.
Edit: espn says 7.26 YPA while yahoo gives the 8.4 number?
The way I look at it, they flipped Cassel for Wallace and this will be a "prove it" season for Wallace. If he fits the offense/team and plays well then great. If he doesn't, the Vikings can get cut him after this season without taking any cap penalties. Very little risk involved and potential for high reward.
An article on the trade from an ESPN Dolphins reporter:
Some good stuff in there. Wallace is no saint and has flaws on the field as well (drops!) but I don't think this is all on him. They didn't utilize him to the best of his ability and Philbin seems pretty clueless when it comes to handling players/personalities.
