I actually think Robison would still technically "start", especially if you compare their performances last year. Johnson could conceivably work his way into more early down work (until last season he's been a very good run stopper) with Robison in more passing situations but I wouldn't automatically assume Robison would be immediately replaced.Vikings28 wrote: I doubt he has any trade value. Zimmer likes to keep guys fresh so Robison could still get a lot of snaps. Maybe he takes on the Wootton role.

I'm thinking the kid Crichton(I just butchered his name) is going to start seeing the field sooner than later too.
Johnson won't be that cheap regardless of how bad he was in Tampa...especially if they're bidding with the Bengals.
I don't think they'll be able to comfortably give him what the Bengals will.

Even with Critchon need more than 3 DE's, especially with Zimmers system.
Re: 2015 Offseason - Free Agent/Draft Tracker
I agree, Robison would start, but I could see Johnson taking over if reuniting him with Zimmer, gets him to play like he did in Cincy. I think this would probably be the best possible signing we could make. It adds so much strength to the rotation. I guess what I'm supposing is that you would need to pay Johnson what Robison is making. Starters money, which he will get in an offer from Cincy. Not superstar money like TB signed him to.vatusay wrote:Even with Critchon need more than 3 DE's, especially with Zimmers system.
They were willing to go $7 mill per for McCourty and I would think they are still looking at DBs who could start next year.
Can they afford to pay 3 DEs starting money? I honestly don't know.

Isn't Johnson going to get paid $7 million from Tampa even though they released him? Maybe he would be willing to take a back loaded contract to play with the coach that made him a star.. I hope

Yeah ... Bucs have to pay Johnson $7M this year with no offset. There must be something more going on here than just sub-par play on the field. When you pay someone $7M to go away; you really want them to go away. Wonder if he had conflicts with coaches, was a cancer in the locker room, or maybe he just turned into a slacker after he got the big money. I'd tread very carefully on this guy.44crm wrote:Isn't Johnson going to get paid $7 million from Tampa even though they released him? Maybe if he was a complete unknown but that's not the case. Zimmer coached him for 5 years and pushed hard to sign him last year. Him and Marvin Lewis know Johnson better than anyone else and they're both reportedly interested in signing him now. I wouldn't be too concerned about him off the field.Pseudo Everything wrote: Yeah ... Bucs have to pay Johnson $7M this year with no offset. He was an absolutely terrible fit in their defense. I'd be happy if the vikings sign him and push Robison to a backup role before probably releasing him for cap reasons next offseason.Pseudo Everything wrote: Yeah ... Re: 2015 Offseason - Free Agent/Draft Tracker
I know his background with Zimmer. You're assuming he's the same player he was two years ago when he was in Cincy. People change. Look at Jason Worilds. Retires out of the blue at 27 years old to be a preacher or something because his heart is no longer in football. And there are countless examples of players who get big money deals in FA and then suddenly their play falls off. Johnson clearly didn't show up last year.Vikings28 wrote: Maybe if he was a complete unknown but that's not the case. Zimmer coached him for 5 years and pushed hard to sign him last year. As I recall our offer to Johnson last year was very similar to what Tampa was offering. If the connection to Zimmer was so strong why did he choose Tampa? I believe he said he wanted to be closer to home (Alabama). Lame.
All I'm saying is tread carefully with this guy.

This was tweeted in reply:Mark Craig @markcraignfl
NFL source said Chargers LB Andrew Gachkar isn't visiting the Vikings and isn't being considered by the team.
Shane Hope @HopeArch
@markcraignfl pretty sure nobody knows anything about what the Vikings are doing at this point. Ever report says the opposite of ever other.

Re: 2015 Offseason - Free Agent/Draft Tracker
its obvious what the vikings are doing--nothing. i was never a fan of doing nothing at all i'm not too sure of that approach. for instance, we cold have probably gotten brandon marshall for a 4th round pick and basically released jennings and taken care of our receiver situation. his attitude got blown out of proportion; i would have been upset with cutler as my qb after every game. so, if peterson leaves we have a need at rb, wr (or two), o-line, middle linebacker, and corner. heck of an approach so far.
