Average run blocker and an above average pass blocker. That's why I like him way more than I do Iupati. Iupati is a terrible pass blocker. The best thing about Boling is that he will be cheaper than Iupati and is a very good pass blocker which is exactly what we need. Smart, heady kid as well.

Thanks Mike! I agree, the last thing we need is another liability in the pass blocking game. Boling will be much cheaper too. Even if we sign him, I still wouldn't mind Scherff at 11 if he's still there. He's a plug and play guard or tackle in case of injuries/poor play.

A possible name has emerged if the Vikings were to end up needing to replace Adrian Peterson: Stevan Ridley.

A source said Monday the Vikings have inquired about the New England Patriots free-agent running back. However, the source stressed it is all very preliminary and there might not be any interest if Peterson were to remain with Minnesota.

Coach Mike Zimmer said last month the Vikings wouldn’t look to sign a running back in free agency. However, that was before Peterson’s level of discontent with returning to the team became known.

Peterson, who missed 15 games last season because of a child-abuse incident, is displeased with some in the organization because of a belief not enough was done to get him back on the field in 2014. It’s possible the star could be traded.

Ridley, 26, rushed for 1,263 yards in his second Patriots season of 2012. However, he was benched during times in 2013 for being fumble prone and had 773 yards.

Ridley rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown in Week 2 last season against the Vikings. However, he suffered a season-ending ACL tear in the sixth game and finished with 340 yards.

While it all is very preliminary on Ridley, the Vikings are doing their due diligence at running back. They’re also working on a deal to bring back restricted free agent Matt Asiata, a player they want regardless of what happens with Peterson.

I like Ridley. The fumbling issues he's had have been a concern, but he's a beast. Interesting option to explore if AD is gone.

After the fact info. that can point us to interest in other FA safeties: told the #Vikings were in on McCourty until it got to $7M/year.

Terms not immediately available on Asiata's contract. But it has a lot of incentives and is for less than $1 million.

I just read a Goessling piece that said the Vikes inquired about Sterling Moore of Dallas and one other guy besides House.

yep...edited my post. Bradley Fletcher too. I don't know anything about either them. I do like Sterling Moore......I seem to remember him blocking a couple of kicks in the past and being pretty physical.

I have updated the OP with the re-signings confirmed to date - will update salary cap hits/space when more info is known about the deals signed by Johnson, Loeffler, and Asiata.

It's hard to decide what to target in this draft for me in the first round.

I think our receiving corps is adequate - Jarius is a nice #3 guy, and Jennings a solid #2. Can Patterson or Johnson emerge as a #1 threat? Rudolph is a stud when healthy, and Ford has been decent as his backup. You can always get better, but it doesn't cry out as a position of need to me.

If we lose 3/5 of the offensive line to injury again, it doesn't really matter much - you just aren't going to get great production in the run game or solid pass protection from the 6-8 best OL's on your team. It seems to me that Boling is a guy we might want to overpay for a tad, just to solidify the position.

So that makes the guys I really like - the top three WR's and Scherff - picks that really don't fill a hole (assuming we grab Boling or another G).

That means the best player in a position of need would be Wayne. But I'm a bit skittish on first round CB's.

So perhaps the best thing that can happen from my standpoint is that we sign Boling, and don't have a strong need/value pick available at #11, and can really play all the options, including trading back to the #21 area, to pick up a mid-second. And we could use that to get back into the first round again, so we can have the standard Double-Rick-Pick.

But just imagine how much he'd fumble with the legally inflated footballs that the Vikings use
